  1. Looks like it’s a tough stretch for teams playing the Sox instead.
  2. Bonus points to see Treinen getting knocked around. Piece of s%*#.
  3. While I’m usually happy to represent the Sox as a local Los Angeles prodigal son, today I’ll be simply hoping that I’m out of the hospital and back home before game time to figure out a VPN / way to watch the game. Next week on Wednesday I’ve got a medical procedure to either confirm or rule out cancer. Going in today for preparation stuff.
  4. 88 win pace in the middle of June
  5. nice. now you dont need to buy Nugenix
  6. What a freaking AB from Tristan
  7. Hawk and Wimpy was an entertaining pairing that also taught a lot about what was going on in the game. I don't think Schriff has ever uttered a sentence I found interesting. When he talks about players' game prep, or changes they're working on, my mind argues with it as something he doesn't know but was told. Hawk, Wimpy or even Stone add such a dimension. Even Benetti sounded authoritative in ways Schriff will never touch. His constant "Do you give him the green light on 3-0" is so pedestrian. Any of us who never played ball and have no broadcast experience would stop using that as a crutch after the first half dozen.
  8. My point is pretty simple. Under Hahn, we routinely had zero depth in the upper minors. As such, when core players went down with injuries, we had no one to fill and even provide replacement level production. Getting negative value out of a position while trying to compete is a big fucking problem. This offseason, Getz went out and added depth where could. Tristan Peters was added to serve as insurance in the OF while Tanner Murray was added to serve IF as insurance. Both were viewed as AAAA types and came dirt cheap, but offered some floor and the ability to cover a variety of spots. Sure enough, one of our main CF options in Brooks Baldwin went down in camp and was ruled out for the season. This opened up a slot on the Opening Day roster for Peters and he’s run away with it. As has been discussed in numerous threads, his offense is going to regress some, but when his defense is this good he’s still a positive value player. For comparison, Evan Carter & Jacob Young have provided similar defensive value and have wOBAs of .286 & .299, which has resulted in fWARs of 0.9 and 1.3 in CF respectively. If we assume just the midpoint of that for Peters, he’s a 2.5 win player even as a strict platoon guy. One last thing, but your claim “that his speed & defense wasn’t a secret” is simply not true. He never once had the reputation of eventually being a 98th percentile range OF and top 5 to 10 defensive CF in the majors. If he did, he would not have gone for cash considerations and only started a 1/4 of his minor league games in CF. And this isn’t a guy who “couldn’t hit”. He was literally known as tweener OF with a plus hit tool and good eye, but questionable power. He had multiple seasons with above league average offensive production, including his final season in AAA. Your description is filled with revisionist thoughts and doesn’t actually align to reality.
  9. After two huge wins over the Braves, our beloved 1st place White Sox were almost subjected to certain defeat after @ron883 broke gamethread rules. Thankfully a new thread appeased the baseball gods enough to bring upon storms & tornados and result in a postponement. As such, the Sox enter this challenging series against the Dodgers with momentum still on their side. Tomorrow’s game will feature Anthony Kay vs. Roki Sasaki. After a solid May, Kay looks to recover from a disaster of a start against the Phillies. The Dodgers won’t make that easy as they currently lead the MLB with a team best 120 wRC+ and sixth overall against LHP at 108. The one saving grace is Ohtani exited tonight’s game with an injury and it seems like there is a real chance he misses tomorrow’s game. As for Sasaki, while his full season figures are pretty ordinary, he’s been on an absolute heater over his past four starts posting an 1.87 FIP and 2.24 xERA. The Sox will certainly pose a challenge as they are currently 5th in baseball with a 107 wRC+ and have been on an upward trajectory as of late. Since May 1st, the Sox have posted a 116 wRC+ and that’s jumped to 124 since Murakami went out (with a 141 wRC+ against RHP). On paper, you probably give the edge for tomorrow’s game to the Dodgers. However, the Sox are 21-11 at home and have won 7 straight. And with an unplanned day off, Venable will have a rested bullpen and should be able to have a short hook with Kay. Gun to head, I think the Sox’s offense keeps on slugging and pulls off a 5-4 win. Let’s fucking go!!!
  10. It's really weird that God's letting him hang out to dry, even though he took the pride patch off his hat. Maybe God's just a vengeful bottom.
  11. People were saying this tough stretch of baseball was gonna show what this team is made of.....whatcha think of them now damnit!!!!
  12. Look, I have spent parts of 4 decades broadcasting high school sports. I can absolutely speak for myself in that there is a huge difference in the quality of the broadcasts of the games I lived and breathed, versus the ones I don't have as much experience in. Playing might help, but it is obvious when someone THINKS the game, versus just describes what they see happening in front of them. There is a depth that guys who think the game have, that others don't. While I can't stand Steve Stone, you can't help but see his ability to breath in a game, and understand what is coming. Even a guy like Jason has a feel for sports that he combines with his ability to find whatever his partner is best at and have them do it most. I don't see that in Schiff. I don't see any of that in him. He's energetic, loud, colorful, and excited, but in a sport like baseball, filling the dead air is the most important part, and he struggles to do it. He's not made for baseball.
  13. As usual Ray, you continue to cherry pick stats to sell your arguments. How many injuries did the 2021 Sox have vs. this team? How many of the guys who were negative contributors were the planned starters and not guys called up to replace them? All this context matters…I too can make up narratives by cherry picking which figures to use and what info to ignore. I really miss old Ray who was thoughtful & detailed in his analysis, this new version who just lazily rushes for the most negative take possible “stinks”…
  14. In that fever dream, was he traded to the White Sox for cash considerations??
  15. This is really very much appreciated given what we have all been through for the past decade plus overall. Well done again.
  16. Your first place Chicago White Sox are a season high 6 over at 37-31! 7th best record in MLB, 3rd in the AL. 19-3 in their last 22 and winners of 8 straight at home. Reigning champs or not, there are NO EASY WINS at the Rate for the road team! The 40-25 Rays are the only team in MLB with more home wins. Kay pitched into and then out of some trouble in the 2nd, but the Dodgers had no baserunners after he Kay'd the side in the 3rd. Bats rallied for 7 in the 5th, and the pen cruised to the finish. With 3 in a row vs. ATL and LAD, the Sox secure a winning homestand.
  17. 8 in a row at home 19-3 in last 22 at home. 6 games above .500 is high water mark on the year !! Suck it Dodgers !!
  18. Great win and most of the key bullpen guys got another day off....let's win this series boys!!!
  19. Imagine trading Miguel Vargas
  20. Going to the Bananas game next week, you’d best believe I’m rocking a custom Tristan Peters Banana’s jersey.
  21. By the way, loved the at bats by the Montgomery boys where they did not chase and just took the walks. If a pitcher is digging his own grave, let him keep digging.
  22. If Teel, Mune, and Schultz are all in Charlotte together my sacks gonna be full of seamen.
  23. I don't know man, most of what I see (outside of him being chummy with Big Podcast[s]) is people not enjoying him/PBP. He obviously has some fans out there, and maybe the detractors are just the "vocal minority" type of situation, but I tend to side with the feedback I get (myself included), that while he's certainly improved he's still not good at the job.
  24. Watched at a bar with da wife. Looks like Tony Kay was worth one more win that Roki tonight.
  25. When we made the playoffs with TLR I never really felt we were that good and it was sustainable. I do with this team
  26. I don't understand why some guys don't like him . .282 hitters with. 750 OPS that are 24 years old don't grow on trees
  27. 93 win pace since April 1st 👀 101 win pace since May 1st lol
  28. Misorowski just threw a 15K 1 hit Maddux, what a ridiculous arm. Brew Crew should get Skubal and really go for it
  29. Let's go white sox!! Keep kicking ass!!
  30. hi8is sr. has left the building in dejection. 😆 He usually roots for the Sox with me due to my life long loyalty but his roots are with the Pirates and Dodgers. It’s satisfying to see him disappointed in the blue crew. 😆 GO SOX! 💪🏼⚾️🔥🧦
  31. Peters easily my favorite story of this season. And there are a lot of good ones.
  32. Sox pitching has a knack for getting into a ton of trouble but limiting damage pretty well overall. Only 2 there is huge.
  33. I want to hear from Rodriguez but not during the fucking game.
  34. The Sox will have the best record in baseball once we get healthy.
  35. FWIW Roberts said Smith would be good to go on the 7th, then he didn't play for 3-4 more days, then he went on the IL, so Dodgers fans don't seem to trust his injury prognostications. They have every reason to be especially cautious with Shohei, though I'm sure a lot of fans would love to see him and Mune both fully healthy for this series.
  36. Hey, thanks for sharing and I wish you luck on your prognosis. It's truly wondrous where medicine has gone in the last 40-50 years. When I was diagnosed, the best advice I got was to take it seriously and focus on beating it. I hope it's nothing and you feel embarrassed in a week for even worrying. I wish you the best.
  37. Damn man hope you get good news.
  38. Look, I get the "to each his own" thing, but after the world class announcers we have had in the city of Chicago, I can't even start to put this guy into a category anywhere near that.
  39. Sounds like something you order for brunch at middle eastern restaurant that come with a delicious green sauce.
  40. You know what it’s a long season and the Dodgers should just rest Shohei and Freeman for this series it’s fine
  41. I wouldn't be shocked if Benetti gets the Pat Foley treatment upon the ownership change
