  1. I just don’t agree with this take. You think market value of a comp pick is a major league ready LH hitting infielder with plus plate discipline & power who brings a solid glove at multiple spots and comes with 6+ years of control. The average career WAR for a comp A pick is ~4 I believe. Jacob is on pace for ~1.5 wins as a 1B and his bat is much better than his current season-to-date results. I think as a 2B his floor is a 2 win player and ceiling is much higher than that. Just playing the odds, he will be more valuable than the comp A pick. Jacob’s history isn’t all that relevant. He reinvented his swing this offseason and was finally able to tap into his natural raw power. He came up to the majors and quickly demonstrated he wasn’t just a product of Truist Field. And he isn’t a guy strictly relying on his new found power…he was always a very disciplined hitter. He doesn’t have to hit 30 HRs to be a very valuable player.
  2. If the Sox trade Jacob Gonzalez for a comp pick, that's a bad trade. How isn't it? They took him 20+ picks before, spent time and money developing him, he turns a corner and becomes a prospect of meaning and you trade him to... do it all over again?
  3. If pick 34th is worth something, wonder what pick 15 is worth! What a dog s%*# trade.
  4. That's typically how draft picks work. You hope they're good in the future. Is Roch Chowalsky good? Maybe one day. Would you trade, I dunno, a 1 WAR player for Roch? He's an unknown commodity, you know, kinda risky. I don't understand this board's new love affair for Gonzalez. It smells like Tim Elko or Jake Burger, overrating the flavor of the month (I wish I looked at this board when Yermin was playing). I liked the pick when he got drafted (nobody else did) and didn't write him off immediately. But he isn't some star waiting in the wings, he's a middling player with no where to play on this team. He hasn't actually been good in MLB, his only professional success is 200 at bats at AAA. He's essentially a replacement level player who will be a good injury substitute for Konnor Griffin, and in two months when Griffin is back in the lineup, the Pirates will have traded a first rounder for a bench player who almost certainly won't challenge Brandon Lowe for starting 2B. In reality, it's a major developmental W to make Gonzalez look semi-useful and get an actual asset for him. It's wise to not lay off the gas on the rebuild by trading Gonzalez for some 5 ERA starting pitcher and continuing to acquire future assets. It's pointless to have in sit on the bench or cycle between AAA and MLB and reduce his value by eating his options. Wish him good luck,
  5. The pick is around $2.9mil in slot value, gives the Sox the biggest pool in the draft again. Feels like a move best evaluated after seeing what they do with it. It's not as straightforward as trading a 15th OA for 34 if it allows them to come away with an extra high level talent this weekend.
  6. I just door dashed a flaming bag of pooh...that'll teach him.
  7. I absolutely hate this trade. Absolutely shitty return on value here.
  8. My man doesn't know how to enjoy the White Sox. All of his fun is gone when he can't complain about everything all the time.
  9. You don’t undersell on an asset because he wasn’t your pick.
  10. Another fantastic start for Burke. Very happy for him.
  11. Would the Golden Sombrero count as Mexican Heritage?
  12. I also don't understand the constant bringing up of Charlotte...he was in the majors and showed something while he was here. Also mentioning that they could not develop him in 2.5 years.....wasn't this season development?
  13. This may also be the first of many moves to ease the upcoming 40 man roster crunch. They are currently at 39 with 8 guys on the 6o-day IL. I think it's likely that Mason Adams eventually gets added as well. So, even though I'm a little sad about this, it's not insane.
  14. Hate it. Totally agree with Ray Ray’s thoughts in the other thread.
  15. Peters honestly has a case to be in the ASG over Rafaela
  16. Nice to see the bats raising their value for our big deadline selloff.
  17. Friday is Panican gangbang night. There’s an upside-down pineapple and a bowl full of car keys at @ron883’s front door.
  18. He changed the results! Biggest con job since Biden stole the 2020 election! Admins - Please ban @ron883 at your soonest convenience!
  19. From a woman's perspective, both Jenny Cavnar and Jen Pawol(the female ump) are embarrassing. If you're going to break a "barrier" successfully you have to excel at your job. Neither come close. Imagine if Jackie Robinson sucked
  20. We are about 28 hours away from the MLB draft. I know there has been a lot of chatter about the Sox still deciding who they are taking, including from Shirley himself. Candidly, that’s a bunch of BS. The Sox clearly having a guy they want to select by this point based on talent alone. However, financials do come into play and it sounds like those discussions don’t really amp up until the last 24 to 72 hours, even for the top pick of the entire draft. Based on what has leaked publicly, I remain confident that Roch is the guy they want to take. The Emerson talk feels very intentional to me. I believe the Sox want it out there that their scouts prefer the HS kid to help create leverage with Cholowsky. Honestly, as talented as Emerson is, he’s not on the caliber of Witt & Holiday and I struggle seeing the Sox give him say a $9.5M signing bonus that would blow the HS record out of the water ($8.2M last year from Willits). Maybe this all changes if he’s willing to take a massive discount, but if the money is remotely close I don’t see how you don’t just take the college kid. With just one day left to go, my guess is the 1.01 should likely be locked down and the Sox are working on the rest of their day 1 strategy. Even if the Sox go with a $10M signing bonus at the 1.01, they’d have close to $2.3M to spend on overslot deals. That being said, I think their goal is to get that first pick closer to $9.5M, which would still be an all time record. Throw in another $0.4M by going with seniors in the 9th & 10th rounds and suddenly you have $3.2M to work with. That would effectively allow you to sign three guys for $2.5M (40th overall slot value) in rounds 2 to 4. It’s critical we come out of tomorrow with a haul of high upside talent. While the 1st pick is obviously most important, I’m more intrigued to see what Shirley does with the rest of his picks and excess funds. Does he ultimately land three or four overslot preps to serve as a future wave? Does he try to snag a talented college arm in the 2nd who can quickly help the big league club? How pitching heavy will he go after our excess pool has been used up. It’s going to be an exciting couple of days for sure.
  21. Selling would be the single dumbest thing this franchisee could do. First, we don’t really have much to sell outside of Newcomb & possible Hicks. Second, it would be the ultimate gut punch to a young team that’s in the thick of a playoff race and a fan base that is finally excited about the state of the franchise.
  22. I was ready to hear a report of TLR rushing to the locker room as if Todd Frazier took a ball to the dome after Miggy hit that dong That was one of the most fun games of the season to watch. Mune back. Burke nails. Peters cycle. Sold out, lively crowd. The Sammy interview. Great stuff all around.
  23. They must have someone in mind they needed this pick/money for.
  24. Trading a player who broke out and is major league ready for a pick that we hope one day is as good as the player we traded. If we traded Gonzalez, it should be toward a controllable SP and not a draft pick that won’t help us for years and will have a high chance of busting.
  25. This seems about normal value for a comp pick. There's always some risk when you trade a pre-arb guy. I don't think the league is all that high on Jacob, though. This may very well be a nice sell-high move. Like a lot of things, this stuff always works out if you're able to call your shots. I think Jacob looked a lot like a major leaguer but the ceiling is not super high and we all know his track record up to this season was absolutely horrible, he wasn't even viewed as a starting caliber infielder on Charlotte's squad to start the year.
  26. I’d egg Chris Getz’s house right now if I had his address and wasn’t in Florida
  27. I don't think it's just that. Having another pick and having more bonus pool flexibility is huge in general. While I imagine Thome is a part of the plan, he was always going to be a part of the plan regardless if they added a pick or not. It's just more talent that can be infused into the farm.
  28. Booooooo, I don't really get it IMO A shitty lefty reliever for another shitty lefty reliever, Getz loves them. The comp pick is interesting, I don't know the ins and outs of the bonus pool and what this could mean draft wise for them. Feel like we could have use Gonzalez in a trade for a SP
  29. Sox will win the 2029 World Series and you’ll still bring that up.
  30. Looks like their demise was greatly exaggerated.
  31. Holy f***. Peters is shoving it up my ass.
  32. 3 points
People need to start paying more attention to him. Once you start hitting in AA you should no longer be under the radar. Sox Machine had an interesting article on him recently and he’s far more interesting than most probably realize.
  33. I'm going to have our broadcast playing into my left ear, and the A's broadcast in my right. If i'm ever tortured in the future they won't even be able to get a peep outta me.
  34. I see Ron made the vote results private like a coward. Show yourself doomers!
  35. Gonzo passes the eye test with me. He's got a sweet swing and seems to have pared back the strikeouts. He doesn't look overmatched, and I think there's more ceiling to find with plate appearances. He's given low positive fWAR at 1B, of all places. His bat plays better at 2B. He's solid defensively. Is he a "plus" major league hitter? I don't know if I'd call him that, but he's a proven big league option in the infield with 6 full years of control. I'd guess any team could plug him into a position and he'd give average production.
  36. What have you guys seen in the last 4 years that makes trading a player like grichuk meaningfully better than just keeping him? Have you guys been watching the same league?
  37. TIME TO GO INTO THE BREAK WITH SOME MOMENTUM. SWEEP THESE FUCKING GREEN GUYS!!!!
  38. No. It would be the worst PR move since the 97 white flag trade. In fact worse. We are literally tied for first place. Who knows what the future holds. There is a legit path to the ALCS. Go for it, within reason.
  39. Funniest outcome: The Sox take Justin Lebron, then sign LeBron as he takes a detour year for some reason to follow in Jordan's footsteps.

What do you mean? He's a prep player that needs to play and develop. He's returning soon from the broken finger and will continue to play and develop. He's years out. Patience.
