  1. But it was insanity to not try to sign a star player if there were any in free agency or make a trade to get some 'name' player. I feel it's dumb to drop a vet like Abreu and just count on Vaughn. Although Vaughn and Burger each might hit 25 plus homers this year if they get the at bats.
  2. Sox won despite ... last three relievers being soooo bad today. I'll give credit where credit is due. Plenty of big hits late in the rain. Including Haseley and Elvis keeping the game alive. I'll say it again. Vaughn at times looks like he may be an MLB hitter. Sox simply have to shut out the lack of noise (teams this bad don't every get discussed in a positive way) and need to quietly win 9 of 10. Only way to make this season bearable would be winning 9 of 10 for starters. 6-4 wouldn't even be worth anything. 7-3 wouldn't be worth aything. 8 of 10 or 9 of 10 and we'll talk. Anything less. Pathetic season marches on.
  3. I despise the idea of openers in baseball but the only way this team is going to win is to have the starters be openers and pitch all the time. Seriously folks this bullpen ... every guy but Liam is horrific. They CANNOT cover four innings!!!! Period!! Gonna have to pitch the starters two innings at a time several days a week.
  4. Maybe that positive caller on the postgame show last night will turn things around. He was saying the Sox have played great competition and will turn it around soon. ... However, not blowing the game open there might make Tampa say, 'Let's beat these bums one more time; they don't even wanna win one."
  5. Play Haseley every day, sit Robert a week and see what happens?
  6. Sox bats humming today. Do we get the good Lopez to save it or does the bullpen get lit again?
  7. Can't blame him for that. Know your own body.
  8. This would be an appropriate time for a rumor to come out about the team's future in Chicago. With the Bears demanding a new stadium, you'd think the Sox would want out of that mediocre non beautiful park and build a gorgeous park either in suburbia or another city. Seems like the team embodies the country's new opinion of Chicago, a place you don't want to be.
  9. 12-3, lol. The Rays are thanking the schedule maker for letting them play the Sox all these games in April. Sox are embarrassing themselves. Poor fans. Hope anybody who has purchased invested several hundred dollars in tonight's game/parking/foodfest has a lot of disposable income.
  10. Somebody said it earlier but LaRussa has to be soooo relieved he's not trying to lead this historically bad team.
  11. Maybe the A's could be disbanded, Jerry's Sox move to Vegas and we get an expansion team. Call the new team The Chicago Mob.
  12. My gosh, this is how really bad teams navigate games. Rays down 3-0 finally got fed up, hit a tiring Lance then feasted on a bunch of bullpen stiffs. 10 losses in a row, LOL.
  13. It's everybody's fault, including Pedro, that the Sox quit completely after blowing game one of the series at Tampa. Season over at that point. This team is not a team and seemingly always will have injuries. Not all PG's fault. But he's not so good IMO.
  14. I had Colas mania in spring training. My gawd he's been lousy. Dropped him pronto off my fantasy team. Yuk.
  15. Almost all have been a bust. Injuries haven't helped. Biggest bust of all? Probably Moncada. He was supposed to be great. Many of them have potential to be among the biggest busts in modern history considering the hype. Actually Eloy may be ahead of Moncada. He was supposed to be a can't miss monster to forever haunt the Cubs for dealing him.
  16. Boy do the Sox stink. I knew when it was tied with 3-4 innings to go Sox would lose. Although our starter went longer than normal we still couldn't cover the final 3 innings. Like fathom says, Sox have 3-4 regulars who belong in the minors. Can't win with so many stiffs. Also the defense makes just enough mistakes to cost the team games. Seven wins a month seems about right which would be 42 wins this season maybe. Strap it up, could be Sox worst season ever.
  17. I tell ya what (as they say in Oklahoma before every point) ... I know the Sox stink and our players stink pretty much, but I will say, Burger and Vaughn on occasion have beautiful home run swings (I realize Vaughn not often). But those homers tonight? Gorgeous (Bennetti blew the HR call on Burger's cause the outfielder looked stoic in not moving at all)! It gives me hope for Vaughn and Burger that they 'might' be big leaguers someday (I can pray bout Sheets' HR stroke too).
  18. Yes for sure, but the offense has had way too many Ks vs bases on balls with virtually no power. Once again Sox have to do a lot of work to score runs. And the starting pitching lines have been horrendous of late.
  19. I enjoyed the article except for that line. As you may recall I was SO against the tank/rebuild I either got banned for 6 months on here (or maybe that was for something else) or got accused of being a major troll cause I was obsessed with my anger at the tank/rebuild. I loved Sale and loved the Buehrle years and having a true ace around. ... I can't remember any other fans on here who agreed with me but perhaps there were a handful at best. NO TANKING! NO TOTAL REBUILDING. The reason? The guys you acquire in the draft more often than not will be busts. And the studs acquired in the deals were mainly busts ostenibly because we have BAD scouting. Please let's fire everybody and start over the traditional way. Pretend we're an expansion franchise and go from there with new GM,scouts and of course owner.
  20. I agree with you in theory but Sox are such a bad team (with no possible recovery for many more seasons to come) so we might as well treat every individual game as the WS. Savor each win when they come. I think we're in one of those weird franchise droughts that is gonna cover many many years.
  21. I feel sorry for Yoan with the back issue. Obviously as many times as these players swing a bat and check their swings, etc., I truly am befuddled how more players don't have severe back issues. Also bending for grounder after grounder, same thing. As far as this series, the boo birds will be out if the Sox play badly again. Finally I'm in a bad mood after listening to that Sox fan rant on Twitter. It makes me think of the tank/rebuild and all the misery that folowed from the ridiculous tank/rebuild. Everybody responsible for this roster MUST be fired and soon. Of course the Sox won't want to pay guys for not working and would have to spend a lot of money hiring a new GM and scouts, etc., so they won't do anything. Play ball.
  22. I do think it's the worst team I've ever seen because it is so overmatched. It's almost as if the team was built to lose every game because of the way it does not fit the modern game. On paper the starting pitching 'might' have been MLB top quality. However even if all the starters excelled, that'd only carry us to the sixth inning in modern baseball. Hence the bullpen being incapable of covering 3-4 innings. Exacerbating the problem is the starters have stunk for the most part, have not excelled for five inns. Finally the hitting. Relies too much on unproven guys who appear grossly overrated. What you get is a team of homegrown stiffs mixed in with some over the hill guys like Elvis and other guys who do not belong in MLB (our reserve infielders and backup catcher). Not sure what to think of Beni, definitely MLB caliber offensively and defensively but again not built offensively for the modern game. So yes it is the worst team imaginable, almost as if they did it to us on purpose. (On a personal level for the first time ever the Sox don't have a player I truly care about as a fan. I've always had my faves. Paulie, Buehrle, Frank, Jose, Dye various pitchers, Ozzie, Ralph Garr, Durham. I have zero faves on this team though Burger is probably closest for me.
  23. I don't think you guys understand you don't treat a well respected veteran (who cares about winning) like you did Jose and not have repercussions. Only way to nullify the shock/ill will woulda been to add some superstar free agent. The Sox didn't and were left with Vaughn and Sheets bat to replace Jose, maybe Burger too.
  24. No offense to some of you who underrated my fave Jose A, but do the White Sox miss Jose Abreu? Of course they do. You take a TOTAL PROFESSIONAL off the team and this is 'partly' the result when the replacements do NOT have the respect of an Abreu. Some people can't go past the stats. Jose was so fricking underrated. His absence left a HUGE hole in many ways. Of course the Sox front office also thought they could do better, lol. If u are gonna let an Abreu walk, make SOME SORT OF SPLASH in the offseason. Our big splash was hiring Pedro. Big deal.
