The Pedro Hire
The Sox got what most fans wanted in Pedro -- just another guy who nobody has heard of who won't say anything of note at news conferences, won't do anything dumb, just blend in and be boring if that's the right word. Sox couldn't hire another former Sox player. Truth be known it might have been time to bring Robin back or Oz back. Or admit a mistake and bring Ricky back. It'd be nice to have a manager (AJP?) who might have the clout to demand the Sox actually acquire some baseball players who can field the ball and pitch the ball. Pedro will be a good, boring company man who probably will be shown the door in a year or two if Sox keep stinking even tho it's not his fault.

Rebuild Time
The 2016 White Sox won 78 games. The next season was the tank. I contend had we not tanked we could have taken the field in 2017 with Abreu, Anderson and Frazier in the infield. We could have found a 2Bman somewhere or played Leury there. Outifield of Avi, Melky and Eaton. Omar at catcher. Davidson or somebody at DH. Then as starters: Sale, Quintana, Rodon and coulda picked up somebody; Nate Jones and Robertson in the pen. I contend it coulda been business as usual for the Sox, try to sign some free agents to go with our core and win the ol' fashioned way. In retrospect, tanking was evil and for those of you who believe in hexes, the baseball gods have penalized us. We haven't done squat since the tank. As long as the Sox woulda been willing to sign some free agents, the tank wasn't necessary. Especially in hindsight. Only Cease appears to be great.

Rebuild Time
The smart thing to do would be to team up with the Bears, leave the city and build a Dallas Cowboys like palace at Arlington. Caulfield had a nice post as far as rebuilding. This team is so unlikeable I'd be all for trading everybody except Robert and Anderson and try to sign GOOD young players and be like the no-name Rays.

White Sox Trade
100 percent true. He may not be a bust completely but he's not a special player. His defense and offense both are above average though which makes him one of the better overall players on this team.

White Sox Trade
Look, Moncada needs to play 2B and Burger third. Case closed. Then release or trade Elvis. 3B ... yes it's nice to have a great defender over there like Robin, but it's one of the easiest positions to be adequate. Burger will be a D over there, not an F. Yes a D reeks but with Moncada at 2B that's the best we can do now. If Moncada won't play 2B, fine him or suspend him or whatever. Keeping Sox players happy doesn't matter anymore with a non contending joke of a team. So what do you think? The Sox backups in the infield are worst options than Leury was so keep Elvis as the new Leury if u don't trade him. An infield of Burger, Tim, Moncada and a sieve at first (Vaughn, Sheets) would be a C to C minus no worse than a D-plus. Who else is demanding Burger 3B and Moncada 2B?

Phillies at White Sox GM 3 Serieswinner of Doom (Clevinger vs. Walker)
They'll draw OK on the nights there are deals. Do the Sox have any nights there's free parking and one dollar dogs? Those nights are the only ones they'll sniff 20,000 fans. Cept for the Yanks, Bosox.

Phillies at White Sox GM 3 Serieswinner of Doom (Clevinger vs. Walker)
The feeling I get with this Sox team is last night was one of those 60 u will win no matter what in a season. We lose so much that I have to believe this is one of the Sox most putrid teams in a good while.

Mid Life Career Change
Cool thread. ... Tex and Caulfield with the high ACT scores, nice. I got a 28 which shows I am not totally dumb. I didn't need the SAT to get into U of Kansas but did need the SAT to get in schools like Northwestern and U of I. So at the time the SAT was offered my junior year of high school I was living in Lisle and attending Benet (2 years), not living in Mt. Greenwood attending Bro RIce (2 years). Feeling nostalgic I got three Benet classmates of mine to agree to take our SAT at one of the sites that offered it, my old high school, Brother Rice. Benet didn't offer the SAT. I thought it'd be neat returning to my first h.s. I drove us to the south side early one Sat morning and the moderator made everybody show their ID in the classroom as the mods handed out the SATs. I was holding up my ID and the old brother yelled at me, "I know who you are!" and gave me the test without looking at my ID. I was surprised the old brother didn't whack me as they could slap u back then. . Br. Rice is so big he still thought I went there and hadn't seen me in a while, I'm sure. Distracted by a few different things I knew I bombed it. I got a 950 lol. Northwestern laughed at me and said I'd have to take it again to go with my stellar GPA if I wanted to attend NW. I knew I wanted to escape home and go to KU so no need to take it again. But my SAT score was soooo low. So bad. My friends did very well on theirs.

Phillies at White Sox GM 2 Thread of Doom (Giolito vs. Falter)
If they tell the truth it'd be 5,000 to 10,000. They'll call it 12 to 15000 IMO.

and that’s a white Sox winner
Gio was great. Don't care about no hitters unless starters can get them like in the old days. Masterful pitching and acceptable defense still wins. Nice win after a lousy Game One. Would be nice to win the series.

Burger is one guy who knows the modern lift and pull. He can mash. Where to use him tho? Burger is a launch machine.

If the Sox are as bad as I think they are going to be they may trade a bunch of guys IMO and try to get 3-4 players in each deal including 1-2 GOOD prospects in each deal. For instance Eloy, Robert, Timmy, Vaughn, Sheets and both catchers and Burger plus Cease and Liam. Just get a ton of guys back including several GOOD prospects. The reason u can do this is there are no fan favorites anymore thus no uproar for the next rebuild. Maybe keep one stud as the Royals have done with Salvy. Mabe ours is Robert.

How many fans in the stands. Seriously. Are there 2,000?

OMG. Eloy is in RF. Comical at best; please stay healthy. Over/under on Eloy mishaps: 2 or 3.

The Pedro Hire
Managers are at the mercy of the gm more than ever before. Houdini could not magically cover the last four innings of games with this pen.

The Pedro Hire
This actually could be true. We'll find out. We have no other choice.

The Pedro Hire
I feel like we've become the Orioles during that long stretch of years where they knew after two weeks they were out of it. I'd say the Royals, but our players are more well known than KC's. Most managers don't apply 'discipline' nowadays. Players won't stand for it. Pedro is just another guy but I'm willing to give him a chance. He has to be scared to death though knowing there's a great chance they can lose every time they take the field cause of what will happen in the last four innings with this pen. Yikes.

The Pedro Hire
I'd never blame Pedro for this. Like many have said, no manager could ever win squat with this bullpen. I think the fair thing to do is feel sorry for Pedro and support him cause cmon there's nobody who could win with this roster coupled with either brittle players or an awful training staff (injuries). This team is put together so badly maybe even Ozzie and AJ wouldn't want this job lol. Why would you want to manage this roster? Destined to fail. So hail to Pedro for trying.

4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30
Agreed, but it seems to me the Sox did not have that mentality prior to the tank/rebuild years which have morphed into this pathetic brand of baseball. My fear is this current situation which you describe well may continue for a long, long time. It's hard to envision a contender ever coming out of this core. Maybe if some of these still-young hitters turn into healthy phenoms.

4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30
Good post. There's just no hope right now. It's just another poorly constructed, bad baseball team with way too many holes to compete. There's no hope for this bullpen, none and no hope for the team defense. That leaves hitting. Hitting is the only area that might win the Sox a series now and then. I love Burger but he's about as bad as they come at the MLB level on defense.

Vacation/Travel Thread.
Read about the violence in Chicago the past two nights all over Twitter. Sun Times and Trib had very little on the mobs attacking cars by Millennial Park. Any suggestions on where I should stay if I am coming in for 4 nights in June: Thursday thru Sunday on vacation? City or suburbia? Ballgame, zoo, museums, pizza, comedy show on agenda meeting people there.

Winning is fun
Burger, Vaughn, Colas. Credit where it's due. Now that's exciting win. People who were there will return. Time to win a series and hopefully Burger will stay hitterish all year at GRate. It's easy to praise when Sox win but Burger does 'look' like a ballplayer who is into it. I was totally against drafting him. Hope I'm wrong. Iove his stroke sometimes.
