QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) From Law's chat: bill (St. Louis) hudson's ceiling as a starter for Whitesox Klaw (1:11 PM) 4 or 5. Dan Hudson (Chicago) I need an explanation on why I didn't make your top 100. I dominated every league in existence last season! Klaw (1:12 PM) With average stuff at best. And I'm sorry, what a D1 college product did in A-ball - especially low-A - is just not that exciting. Unless he stunk, in which case, he's got one food in the discard pile. So he does not like Hudson because Hudson only did well in A-ball, and not great, even though he did great in AA and decent in AAA?? I don't follow. Would he rather have had Hudson dominate A-ball and then suck as he moved up the ranks?

Royals Scout offers reports on Sox prospects
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) He's the guy I'm most excited about and like I said before.. has the most potential of any player currently in our system. I'm talking superstar potential if he puts every damn thing together. I didn't realize that Thompson was such a power stud. I completely assumed he was just a speed guy with no power, like a Tavaras type player. I didn't realize he is more Soriano like. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Danks as a solid #2 hitter as soon as this season? Me think not. Yeah, I don't think so either. I think he will be the first OF called up, but I doubt he hits in the #2 hole. -
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Well in fairness to Law, he is a stats guy. Floyd was posting 6 K/9, 5 BB/9. That's not a Major League pitcher. Gavin Floyd's turnaround was seemingly unforeseeable by everyone other than Kenny and his scouting team. If Law is a stats just then he really has no excuse for the Alexei Ramirez comment in Oct. 2008.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) i was doing a little reading about him to see what the hype is. so basically he projects as edgar renteria, with a little better defense When I saw the name "Hanley Ramirez" used as a comp for that kid I just x'ed out of the page.

So I was talking to a Royals professional scout online, and he gave me some feedback on a few of the Sox top prospects....
-
I lost respect for Keith Law when he suggested that for Halloween that someone just put a black shirt on and swing a bat around aimlessly, and that was Alexei Ramirez. And he said this Oct of 2008, when Alexei was hitting about .300 and contending for R.O.Y. Here it is... "Bobby (Detroit): You should be Alexei Ramirez for Halloween SportsNation Keith Law: (1:35 PM ET ) Too easy. Walk around in a black shirt, swinging a baseball bat around but never hitting anything."

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) thanks for that answer. I have trying to figure this one out for a while. No player has worn since a backup catcher in 80 or 81 and before that Orta. #5 Ah yes, your right, it was #5

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) #6 was available when he came up, so it must be unofficially retired by JR. I thought Nix was #6? No?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:30 AM) Ya.. don't have a facebook... BOOOOOOO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqXRtchhDsk

I have a feeling Beckham really wants #6, I just hope I won't have to buy a new jersey now. Also, I can't wait to buy an Andruw Jones jersey. It will go along with my Andruw Jones Nederlands 2006 WBC jersey.

QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) Did anyone catch Freddy's antics on Saturday night in the hotel bar? It wasn't that late, probably before 10. I went to dinner with my dad to Miller's Pub, pretty decent place and we came back to the Palmer House probably around 8:30 and we see Freddy on the Street level of the hotel, signing autographs and taking pics with girls, laughing having a good time and obviously had a few drinks. He makes his way to the bar in the lobby and people are buying him drinks left and right. I didn't really see how many he had...but it was a few. Then he gets the attention of the crowd and starts shouting..."f*** the Cubs" "f*** the Cubs"...security comes to stop him...he tells everyone to quiet down, then does it again and eventually leaves. It was pretty hilarious. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=...8975&ref=nf

Who do you have the highest expectations for?
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to SockMe's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) I got big expectations for all of them... Peavy and Buehrle I expect to be All-Stars and Top 10 Cy Young voting. Peavy is because, well, he's Peavy and he can perform like that. The only reason I've got those expectations for Mark are because of his new conditioning with Herm this offseason. Quentin, I expect around .290, 30 HR, 100 RBI at least. Rios and Teahen I expect to at least hit .280, 20-25 HR, and around 80 RBI. Alexei, just a return to his '08 form. Beckham to be an All-Star. Danks and Floyd to have around 15 wins each and ERAs around 3.50-3.70 Ozzie, I expect at least 10 ejections that involve awesomeness. Pierre around .300 with 40 SB. The Bullpen to have a group ERA around high 3's, low 4's. Paulie and AJ I'd be fine with them just replicating their '09 seasons give or take. Your talking 100+ wins right there. -

definitely Peavy. But I also have high hopes for Andruw Jones because I am a big fan of him. -
Top Five Stories - The Chicago White Sox

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Interesting read, but I really could not figure out what he was trying to say about Alexei Ramirez. I think he's saying that you shouldn't split the difference on his two seasons, you should project high or project low, but then his last sentence in that paragraph confuses me: "Place your bets on 2008; a .113 ISO in 2009 is too poor to be a fluke." Huh? I believe is is saying to place your bets on 2008 being the fluke year, as his ISO is 2009 was too poor to be a fluke. Basically saying he will have another bad year and 2008 was just a lucky season. -
QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) No rush. He's still only 20. It may not seem like it because his name has been around for a couple of years now, but he's a baby. For some perspective, we look at Beckham like he's advanced beyond hs years, but he's 3 years older than Viciedo. Maybe.

Andruw Jones in the Best Shape in a Decade?
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There are 2 reasons why i don't think this is just a "fluff piece" 1) It's from Jon Heyman, not a Sox beat writer or someone who has stake or ties to the Sox. 2) Of all the types of fluff pieces, "In great shape" are the best because we can literally see if he has changed or not. All the "He said he feels healthy" or "Has changed his focus" or "Is more determined than ever" is pointless because we can't judge that. But the physically fit one at least we can see immediately. Remember Contreras? He was half the person in size. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) and stupid And got us $1.5M

QUOTE (T R U @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 03:49 AM) Would you kindly enlighten me about all of the advantages the PS3 has over the 360.. and dont use the exclusive baseball game reason, I don't give a s*** about The Show.. Besides graphics, power, media abilities (blu-ray, internet browers, ect)? The only I can find for the Xbox360 is that it has a better internet network (so I am told), but that should be expected considering users have to PAY for that. The "Ps3 has no games" argument does not work anymore since the PS3 has been out long enough to establish a library of it's own. Not saying it's better, just saying it is not a detractor.

Nothing Much Going On So Here's A Thought...
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) To sign a young, much sought after all star gold glove lefty that could hit 40+ bombs and would be under the Sox control for the next couple of years... That's why I would probably do it. Okay maybe I wouldn't give up Huddy though. But the Danks brothers and maybe Retherford or someone like that? Yeah I'd do it. I just do not feel comfortable breaking up the 1-4 without adding something to that. 1-3 with a shaking 4-5 is not appealing. We finally have a great rotation, one of the best in the bigs, I don't want to mess with that so we can find our power stroke again. Otherwise we are basically the same team we were last year, relying on our power to get wins. -

QUOTE (striker @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) I bet they feel out Flowers in spring training and if he does well he could split time with DH/Pierzynski. I would rather T-Flow in AAA starting, then in MLB playing once a week. -

Uni Watch: Sox uniform history plus...new uni ideas?!
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When the Hawks win the Stanley Cup, the day after they win, the Sox need to wear the hockey style jerseys that Kaner is wearing in Steve9347's sig. Speaking of that jersey, where the hell can i buy it? I would pay a fortune for one.
