  1. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 11:41 PM) Ugh, I couldn't disagree more. Ozzie is easily a bottom 5 manager in the league. He has the baseball IQ of a rosin bag. No need to insult rosin bags.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 06:14 PM) The bottom line on Rios is he should never have been acquired. Everybody in baseball knew he was a lazy guy who doesn't respect the game. You can't change people at this stage of life. It's all on KW. He should be fired for acquiring Rios when another team simply wanted to be free of him. Dunn isn't a fireable offense; Rios is. Dunn is a tragic comedy but he had a good track record before coming here. This is perfect greg775. Remember the Sox claimed him off waivers so the Blue Jays were fed up with him. I was in Toronto to watch the Sox open the season there last year. The fans booed him mercilessly. I wondered why. Now I know. He is a bum!
  3. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 08:56 AM) It's gotta be comming from upstairs, this has to be the chairman's orders. Ozzie can't be that stupid....(I think he ain't) Oh yes....he is
  4. When KW meant Chicago tough I'm beginning to think he meant how tough it is to be a Chicago fan! Rios ofer3 and loafing in the field. Forget cutting him he should be executed.
  5. I started this thread and have now read some good observations. Almost all concern the money aspect. This seems valid to me as it would also be my main issue. 1. I'm not buying the weather factor. this summer has been just plain hot and the ballpark at night is glorious. All teams in our region have weather issues. 2.Not only is parking outrageous but I used to find street parking which is virtually impossible now due to the city instituting permit only and pay boxes within about 100 mile of the stadium. 3. I can't believe the White Sox charge much more than other teams, but some of you have opened my eyes to the fact that do. In a structured way. We do not go to nearly as many games as we used to because it is just too expensive. 4. The economy is bad in cities that still draw well. 5. I think a city with one team has complete focus and fan loyalty to that team and is not split. The sports spotlight stays on that team period. When the Cubs are really bad and the Sox are not riding high the focus turns to the Bears by mid July and baseball becomes an after thought. This city offers too many other [cheaper] options, especially in the summer. 6.Lets face it. Its about the money. Parking Tix and concessions. Thanks boys now I get it. As a footnote here they did draw 33,000 the next night.

The White Sox have some big names and are currently in the thick of the chase in the A.L. Central. The weather has been great for night games and the team has been playing well. The northsiders suck and are not a factor. A beautiful Friday night in late July against the Red Sox the house should have been packed. I know we have been down this road before, but why not better attendance? The park is beautiful and the experience is a positive one. I have been to more than a few stadiums around the country and the cell is above average. I don't get it.
  7. 1/2 game behind the tribe
  8. Just when Dunn has reached fun bad status we trade him? Who else gives us so many laughs? I watch most every game and have started laughing out loud at his at bats. Its even more fun when he gets the occasional hit. On another note, maybe I'm kicking a dead horse but we have had a hole in center field since we traded Rowand. How many years now 5?
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:20 PM) And Ohman. And Humber. And Teahen. And Morel. Who else am I forgetting? The obvious, Dunn and Rios. You could put Pierre,Lillibridge and Thornton in there too. Not playing Lillibridge enough when he was hot. Playing Pierre too much when he was not. Thornton clearly lacked closer ability early on. Also why does Ozzie sit guys when they are hot? He doesn't play the hot hand often enough.
  10. He doesn't use late game substitutions enough. Especially pinch runners for Konerko and Dunn. If you are going to bunt then make sure the guy bunting can bunt. Coaching some in this area might help. How about making sure the pitchers hold on base runners better? This can also be done with coaching. Hold the coaches involved responsible for preparing the players to execute. Defensive positioning is not good under Ozzie. When do the Sox employ a shift? Do they hold any runner on second base. Ozzie leaves a lot to be desired but overall is about average in game managing. In my humble opinion as a long time observer. I think players fear what he may say publicly when he goes on his profanity filled tirades. His son chirping about his boss and his employer would not be tolerated in any other workplace. His act has worn thin. I don't think the players respect him or like him and also fear his big mouth and what his tool of a son may write about any of them. Walking on egg shells in the clubhouse because Oney may go public is not a good atmosphere. Ozzie must still supply Oney with information. Coaching and preperation are not so good. In game managing is avearage at best. Atmosphere and leadership can't be trusted. If he doesn't win now I would love to see a change made.
  11. Peters hit better than Rios. He used to pinch hit and pinch run too. Not to mention he was a very good pitcher. Eddie Fisher and Hoyt Wilhelm were both in the bullpen and both threw knucklers, but Fisher also could and did throw hard. If I remember right the 1964 Sox were up by a game with eleven to go. They won 9 of eleven and finished second. The Yanks won all eleven!
  12. creeping ever so silently
  13. playoffs?!?!?? What the hell? Who starts next in Jackson's spot and then who starts when Peavy goes back on the dl?
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Kenny Williams on Rios: Ozzie on Rios: Yuck. I used to love Ozzie but man - his time has come. He can't even listen to his GM or look at a player hitting .200 - who does nothing but lolligag around the field. You know what lolligaging makes you?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) They don't make the playoffs if Jake is not developing back towards 100+ pitches. It all hinges on Peavy? C'mon this team has never depended on him......can't.
  16. A real nobody. Edwin who?
  17. When do the Tigers make a move and what do they do? Add a starter?
  18. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) Any chance we can all agree not to use the term White Flag on this site ever again? The Indians were a far better team and franchise in 1997 and were just waiting to make a move in the division. They won the pennant and ended up just short of their first title since 1954. The concept of the White Flag was a fabrication for headlines more than anything else. The only mistake was JR publicly stating the Sox weren't going to catch Cleveland, even though he was correct. The White Sox were a middling team that year and going nowhere. Kind of like this year. White Flag
  19. Once out, wouldn't getting back in be jumping on the band wagon? So if the Sox make a run this season, no one who is out will get on board?
  20. 1 1/2 behind the tribe
  21. All in, all the time.............Not blind and stupid though. All right maybe a little stupid.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 11:57 PM) There's no point in doing so this late in the season when the team is actually in the race. This would be worse than the White Flag because of all the money they committed to this roster. They may as well play it out. Yep, I agree here. Adam Dunn is fun bad.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) I'm psyched...the first "big" series of the season, imo. This one is crucial. To their credit, Tigers are trying to grab this division and run with it right now. We've been hanging around and everyone's wondered when/if we'd make a move. Now is the time. Total agreement with this. The Tribe and the Twinks have the Angels and the Rangers. We could be looking at the turning point of the season. Look at the pithching matchups in all those games. The Sox have Buerhle the Tigers have Below. I'd sure hate to lose this one and go against Verlander with a loss. The Sox could make up serious ground in the division with a great homestand. A Homestand in the middle of Summer against long time traditional original rivals, Go Go White Sox!! This could be loads of fun. The time is right now to seize it and run with it.
