  • He’s still great on tv.  He’s absolutely brutal on Twitter.  He’s a yes man and he’s a condescending jackass on social media.

  • At least they didn't get roped along all off-season only to get Manny Machado's friends and relatives. It could be a lot worse.

  • So I just got a text from a buddy of mine who is very connected (to MLB not necessarily Sox). Said Sox are on fire right now and close on a couple sizeable moves.

He doesn’t make the team any better. That’s the problem. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets DFAed at some point like Eaton did. It’s just a waste of money.

The question would be is he better then Mendick and/or Romy. Not sure I know that answer TBH.  I feel pretty good about saying he is better than Mendick, Gonzalez, not sure.

I didn’t get the vibe from Hahn today that they’re done.

Do you have a link to his commetns?

Just a dumb comparison, as it’s not the AAV that was high for Semien, but the years.

Makes sense to me. This is a really bad offseason if they don't do anything else.

A lot of signing Harrison is clouded by what the Sox haven't done yet.

yes. But if we don't sign a legit RF, it becomes worse than it already is

Absolutely. I agree there. If that is the only position player move that is made, then absolutely a fail. But if you spend on a RFer, move Kimbrel, then I like it.

After reading Fegan’s tweet I didn’t either.

That’s a low bar to clear. Don’t think a marginal upgrade at best is worth like $4 million or whatever they are paying Harrison.

What if that RF is of the Pederson/Rosario level?

You can't be serious:

Rick Hahn more or less said White Sox are done adding to 2B mix with Harrison. Mentioned Jake Burger among their 2B depth. Acknowledged that you can essentially never rule out Andrew Vaughn playing anywhere. LF and 3B sound like other spots for Harrison to see time

It means they like his bat enough that giving him ways to get into games is enough of a priority that they are wiling to suffer through that again.  They are also probably planning for the inevitable injuries of other guys and want to have options.

It is now.  But they also have to be looking at what happens if Robert gets hurt, or Eloy gets hurt, or Leury gets hurt, or Anderson gets hurt... maybe even at the same time, etc.

If that is the move, and we couldn't move Kimbrel, then...meh, but about what I'd expect. A lot hinges on ole redbeard being moved.

Exactly. I'm totally fine with Harrison at 2B. I'm not fine with Vaughn/Sheets/Engel in RF and Kopech/Keuchel as back end of rotation.

We have Eloy Jimenez as our primary LF.  If he needs a day off, Andrew Vaughn should play in his absence.  If Eloy gets hurt, then Vaughn should be the primary LF with Engel getting the spot starts.  If Vaughn also gets hurt, then Engel should be the primary LF and Gavin Sheets or Leury should get the spot starts.  If Eloy, Vaughn and one of Sheets or Leury get hurt, then maybe, just maybe Harrison should get some playing time out in LF.  Just take three guys above him getting injured.

It’s readily apparent that Leury & Harrison are going to get way too much playing time.

4 mil for a competent second baseman is really nothing at all, at this point.

But what's the point if they aren't going to use the savings in a meaningful* way?

*And by meaningful, I mean using it in a way other that stuffing JRs pocket or spending it on multiple scrubs instead of one legit good player.

Exactly, if my options are keep Kimbrel or dump him and doing nothing with the savings, then I’m 100% keeping as he can still be useful just significantly overpaid for a setup role.

Ultimately if they address RF and SP in a substantial manner then I won’t care about Harrison all that much. But as of now this offseason looks rough. Spent all that money and the team still isn’t any better than they were last year.

Im keeping lots of hope that we sign a rf and trade for a starter. Too many free agents and trades still on the table. Lets stay strong

Same. Management can’t be that oblivious to what we are about to trot out there in RF. I like sheets but no way is he a RF

What’s your general feelings to them actually being able to convert on one of the bigger RF options? I feel like we’ll see something for a SP, but I don’t have an optimistic view on the OF because of Boras.

I still think this is a wait on Kimbrel return thing.  We are at about $210 million with player benefits, etc and the tax starts at $230.  $20 million isn't getting you impact RF and a SP.  Have to find someone to take Kimbrel for prospects.  With $35 million you can do both and still have a little left for the trade deadline.  Just don't expect Jerry to pay one penny in luxury tax.  I think that's why our RF problem is not fixed yet.  If Kimbrel isn't moved, I don't think Hahn does anything :(

Don't you think that statements from Hahn at this point are merely tactics in an effort to create some market confusion? If the Sox want any of the top RF free agents they have to deal with Boras. If additionally they want to trade with either Cincy or Oakland for a starting pitcher, they would want to make statements that inflate the value of their own players - likewise with Kimbrel.

Eh, I think it's just Hahn doing what he always does. I don't really think "negotiating in public" is something that moves the needle.

Exactly, maybe they're thinking Burger can handle 2B with Harrison on board as an insurance policy.
