We definitely overpaid for Kelly.

I think the Graveman one was even more egregious. 1 year of 3.2 FIP baseball as a reliever in his career. Not a huge strike out guy, expected ERA was north of 3.7. Pretty decent BABIP luck last year. No reason to give him 3 years at 8 million per year. Projections, which aren't perfect given his change as a pitcher slightly last year, paint him as a 3.7 ERA reliever going forward with FIP's near or over 4.

Eloy is not moving from LF. I have no idea where some people come up with this shit.

The White Sox put Eloy back in LF last year after he badly injured himself. They're not moving him out of LF. There's literally no evidence the Sox intend to move Eloy out of LF, regardless of what you think or what scenario's you've dreamed up in your head.

So we're again back at... Sheets is very possibly your DH. You just said we didn't need Schwarber because we don't need a DH, and then you said that Sheets is a depth piece and shouldn't be starting as a DH.

And I'm the one who talking to is like smashing your head into a wall.

My goodness.

Scenarios I've dreamed up in my head?  Coming from the guy that dreams up worthless mental rosterbation scenarios everyday to try to prove to everyone here he is the smartest guy in the room, and could do a better job than the FO.

You're insufferable dude.

According to who?  Please still the 8-9 rosters better than the Sox.

This is a wild take.

In the AL?

Yankees, Astros, Rays, Blue Jays.

NL; Dodgers, Mets. On par with the Sox, Braves, Brewers.

Think you could argue the Giants are better as well.

Free Agency Fun Facts!

  • The Sox have signed three of the seven largest reliever contracts over the past two off-seasons (~43%), including two of only three deals that go beyond two years
  • Only 20 free agents have signed deals for three years or longer in length this off-season, with 17 of those for starting pitchers or everyday positional guys
  • Of the three 3+ year length contracts that are for relievers or bench players, the Sox have signed two of them

Oh I'm sorry for breaking down potentail ways the Sox could have spent their money differently.

In the future I'll just laud the front office and defer to their expertise as to not upset you with the conversations and analysis going in a direction you don't approve of.

I mean, we’re playing the compare bad decisions game - Kelly has a career FIP of 3.94, projections about 3.6-3.7, is currently hurt, and getting more per year.

I swear he tight roped out of jams last year like Colome against us every time. I remember we had the bases loaded nobody out against him in Seattle and he got out of it with no damage cause of some double play liner right at someone. Then Jake Lamb nearly walked him off in Chicago until Taylor Trammel made a crazy play in CF. He also allowed quite a few base runners against us in the ALDS and gave up the only run we had in game 1. Maybe we just hit him well, but I was seriously not impressed from what I saw last year.

Kelly has a longer track record as a reliever at least and has a less guarantee. I don't think either were that smart of contracts, given what we've seen guys like Martin/Mchugh/Former Cub Pornstar get in the past couple days.

I was surprised by the same thing, but at least in the playoffs he was nails once he got past us.

As much as I want that LH power bat, I don't think that giving Conforto a 4 or 5 year contract is a good idea, especially at around $20 million per year. I'd prefer a shorter term solution. I'm still intrigued by the thought of trading for Tyler Naquin, for the final year before he becomes a free agent. He hits RH pitching, and plays a pretty decent RF. The cost in prospects should be minimal and it leaves more money for additional starting pitching.

Would love to see Ramirez leave the division but at the same time, its tough to see other contenders beefing up like this.

Hopefully the potential haul Cleveland receives is a bust.

I don't see them going after Ramirez after the Chapman trade.

Last year of the unbalanced schedule.  Have to be one of the top 2 teams in the league for divisions to really matter from here on out.  The Sox' greatest short term advantage has been neutered by the new rules.  Leave him in Cleveland.

I remember when all of our dream budgets pre-2020 had sox maxing out at 160 and every one of those was better than whta Hahn put together. It is embarrassing how high our payroll is with this much talent still on their early arb years, with how little additional impact players were added.

GM is another one of those jobs where I guess you don't get better at it with experience, clearly. Free agency is as big of a black hole for Hahn as it ever was.

I don't want him to leave the division because then he's going to a team that we could play in the playoffs lol

Hahn's budget management reminds me of when I was young and in my first few jobs where all my money from raises just went into taking more taxis instead of the bus.
