Sox win; split series @HOU

Featured Replies

Series split @ Houston is nothing but a W. Yoan is hitting and Yaz has a pulse. Clevinger looked good. Cease looked like a Cy candidate and Lucas was solid. Pen and situational hitting needs work, but that’s a start all of us should be pleased with.

  • For real, let's look at some positives: Moncada seems to have carried over his WBC play. The outfield defense went from looking horrendous the past two years to ... something we can pos

Offense is ok, but can’t go through the season with base loaded and no outs and come up empty. Yes, it will happen from time to time but twice in a game cannot and shouldn’t happen.

I might be wrong...but after a quick look at 2022 lineups, I think we've already surpassed in the opening series the number of games where all five of TA7, Eloy, Yaz, Yo, and Luis started in the entir

2-2 against the defending champs at their house in very close games. So far a lot of positives to start the season

Holy cow. Lopez can’t count to 3!

Just give La Pantera the gold glove now!!!

not a bad start. importantly some guys we needed to bounce back looked good.

I think if you offered us a split in Houston, everyone would have taken this.

Does anyone have the clip of Roberts catch?

I’ll take the split.

I bookmarked it immediately for...reasons.

Rotation has been huge first time through. Let’s keep it going boys!

Looking back, that might have saved the game for us.

Series split was huge, would have taken that 10/10 times if you offered it to me.

Some positives and some things that still need major improvement (hitting with RISP/bases loaded, bullpen, taking some pitches)

Also

Only complaints I have are coming up small in big spots with the bats and the bullpen.

Good series. Starting pitching good. Usually Houston can blow us out. But caveat for the depleted 'Stros lineup.

Good hitting. BABIP has to be sky high. RISP hitting not good.

Defense very good with Robert. ALso his double and HR !

Some HR's from non catchers was good. Timmy clutch hit.

Colas 2 hits.

Grandal 3 hits and a BB

Vaughn 2 hits

Moncada awesome ! 2 doubles  and HR.

Still have to take a lot more pitches.

Timmy Great series !

Much better start than I dreamed of. Actually, I think the Sox should have won three of four. Last year was so disappointing for Robert because of the injuries. The guy has Willie Mays type of talent. Just having a healthy Robert in center field improves this team. All he did this weekend was save runs. If he gets his hitting together, he is a MVP type of player.

Would have loved to win 3 but this team looks really balanced and really good.  I’m pleased.

My thoughts from the season opening series:

Great split against the defending World Series champions and one of the best ML teams in baseball on the road.

Much more patience and growth today from Robert at the plate.

Moncada is simply crushing it! Maybe he needs to be at the three spot.

As I suggested in a previous post before the season, the no shifting in 2023 is going to help Grandal a lot this year in getting more hits.

Colas is going to contend for Rookie of the year. Once he learns to hold off on all the breaking pitches, he will be a beast.

All four starters were solid. Cease looks like his sights are set on winning the Cy Young and not coming close.

If we had a good bullpen we could have gone 4-0.

Nice to see bats finally coming through at the end of the game. Outhitting the opposition and losing would have been so on-brand for 2022.

Let's not forget the other clutch run-saving catch from our second Cuban outfielder, by the way!

No love for Lynn?!?!

Just kidding. So many frustrating things about this series, and we still came away with a split. That’s huge.

Moncada blasting a couple of opposite field homers bodes well for this season. Robert and Moncada being the stars they should be, puts this team in a really good spot. Their OF defense is great. Starting pitching is solid. Bullpen gets sorted out and situational hitting improves, and look out.
