I would like to think I willed this into existent. Been saying he would be a good add for a few weeks (even if not repeatedly on here haha)

Bob always gets his guy!

Happy for you! Ive retired from being happy about a 100 loss team investing in their bullpen over and over. The idea they'll flip these guys basically never works.

He's a quality mlb arm and we know they need more of those though.

I'm probably the biggest pie in the sky guy here, and Robert wasn't promising. At this point, I'm more excited to see what Acuña and Pereira can do.

Pal, please stop. There are so many receipts out there. You change your mind based on one thing and one thing only..  Getz!

More excited to watch luisangel acuna play than luis robert lol

Alright another starter and let’s roll. Also an OFer but I have a feeling that’s unlikely.

They will add another OF in some capacity.  No way to do they go into camp with just this group.  Doubt it will be anything over $5M and might be as a NRI with above league minimum contract if they make the team, but they will add a vet to be part of the spring training mix.

Interesting. I am usually one of those "bad teams shouldn't pay relievers" sort of guys, but there is an opportunity to build value here, so I am intrigued.

I actually love this move with him serving as closer.  Real chance to return some actual value come July.

Hopefully he does well enough to get flipped at the deadline for something nice, otherwise, I would have rather just kept Robert for practically the same price.

Why the fascination with Robert ? Yes speed and great defense is fun to watch but the bat had 60 great plate appearance in July. The other 4 months he was sup . 600 or sub . 700 OPS and another month he didnt play. And it's been that way for a while.

Not a problem…. Just scratching my head at the Rule 5 takes now more than ever.

Dominguez

Vasil

G. Taylor

Leasure

Gilbert

Murphy

Newcomb (7)

Paez and Alberto. Rule 5

Leasure at least has options and probably should be in AAA. But going to be extremely challenging for either now more than ever.

Yeah, great chance for them to only spend 5 million of the dollars.

I said it last year and the year before. Signing a player with the idea to flip them has never made sense to me and so far, it's basically never worked.

It's something fans of rebuilding teams dream up, but doesn't have a lot of history of success or consistency. While relievers see value spikes at deadline, it requires a guy to be elite or truly change who they were before you signed them for their value to exceed their contract they just signed by enough to cash in.

Yeah I think it's unlikely they break camp with both but injuries to others can provide a path for both.

I do think they will another starter. Another 1 year deal on a low cost veteran to help eat innings.

Same for OF. I don't see them adding anything other than a spare part type who can take at bats

I could then do another two year deal for a SP.  The only challenge there is this just ate up half the Robert’s savings and the guys left who would command two years would require more than a $10M AAV.  I’ll guess we’ll have to wait and see on where the budget lands.  Maybe the Robert trade wasn’t a Jerry mandated salary and Getz not being comfortable committing 20% of his payroll into the player.

I guess I should have explained it better, what I was trying to say is if they don't flip this guy I would have rather just kept Robert because our current roster of OFers is a complete disaster, and even though Roberts shipped sailed 2 years ago he is still far and away the best OFer we had on the roster.

He will almost certainly be flipped though, so its not really worth debating.

Excellent addition.

Huge flip potential with that second year.

This is something I have criticized Getz for the past two years.  The closer spot in a rebuild season should be utilized by a vet with good stuff who hasn’t had a shot at closing up until then.  We lost out on some real flip value the past two deadlines by being so cheap in how we filled our bullpen.

Is talent accumulation a bad thing ? Rule 5 picks for the majority of times dont bring substantial results. The Sox hit the jackpot last year and it chump change to make picks.

Theres nothing about Rule 5 picks that is worth thinking about except how great they are when you can identify some that actually provide production.

You've become such a reply-guy, I should start a Patreon. While Robert was here, I certainly reserve the right to hope for the best for him. I've always said he's a 2 bWAR/162 games guy who will not play more than 2/3 of a season. Now that he's gone, I get to look forward to the next set of dudes.

I sure hope I have your permission to think this. That would mean so much to me.

I agree, but if he gets the closer role and has a really strong first half you're looking at a pretty nice asset to move who will have an additional year of control at only $10 million

It’s highly likely that Domínguez has more trade value than Robert in 6 months.

Leasure was pretty damn good over the 2H of the season.  Him and Taylor are your two setup guys.

I dunno. Everyone here mostly tells me how dogshit it's been.

If they add Giolito and Bader to what they’ve already done, I’m not sure I could ask for much more (understanding the financial constraints imposed by Jerry).
