Teel suffers LCL sprain (Pg. 5), out 3-6 weeks

Fisk was a taller catcher that was not muscle bound but had a lot of flexibility and cat-like quickness behind the plate. As an old White Sox fan, I always admired his abilities behind the plate.

Teel focused on weight lifting and gained 20 pounds in the off-season, in part due to eating sub sandwiches at his Godfather's deli. Kyle said he did it to gain more power, but that had to make him a tad slower and had to put a bit more strain on the legs.

I honestly thought Teel looked too thin last year and could afford to gain some weight, but it didn’t seem to impact his performance last season. By the way, look at the second comment on your YouTube link…

The "setback" while running sounds like the hamstring may have been re-injured to some degree. Anyway, whatever happened there seems to have created another uncertain timeline. As a fan, I wish someo

Teel is listed as 5' 11" tall. IMO, 20 pounds is a LOT of weight to add just in the off-season. Maybe that is working out for him.

This is Kyle's Godfather's deli where he worked on those subs :

Google says he was 190 last year and 210 this year. I still think he looked a bit thin last year.

Maybe they were Unwiches with no bread? 😆

He also said he drank a lot of protein shakes.

FWIW, Fisk was definitely a weight lifter in his Sox era...he credited heavy weightlifting with saving his career. He also gained about 30 pounds shortly after joining the Sox (although IIRC he did not attribute that to weight lifting and worried that he was getting fat). He was reputed to lift weights to exhaustion in a way few players those days were willing to do. I also remember a story that when Jeff Torborg banned alcohol from the clubhouse, he'd be sipping beers in the weight room in his postgame workouts.

Berroa was throwing in Arizona for months. The next part of the rehab was pitching in games. What should they have done instead? Austin Hays is always injured. It's why he was so cheap. I'm guessing he'll be injured again too.

It's sports. Guys get injured. Hamstrings are incredibly tricky as well. I once tore my hamstring off the bone and even though I told the trainer and a doctor something was seriously wrong, they told me it was just a pull. I had no bruising until almost 2 1/12 months later when they had me jog and I felt the slightest pinch, almost thought nothing of it. By that night, I couldn't sit down and when I woke up the next morning, I had a bruise that went from the middle of my butt to the middle of my calf. I wasn't cleared to run for another 3 months; and it took me almost a year until I felt normal running, even though I was cleared for 6 months. Everyone heals and feels differently. All they can do as trainers is make the best educated guess based on their evaluations and the feedback provided by the athlete. I also had never pulled a leg muscle before that and haven't since.

All catcher defense is "mediocre". Can we stop pretending that there's some tier of catching defense that 29 other teams have solved? Like, seriously, if you're watching a major league catcher, and thinking, "this fucker's got nothing on me", go to Sox Park, and audition.

Okay. A bit overserved.

"The two best defensive catchers of all- time are Ivan Rodriguez and Yadi Molina. After that, there are a bunch of guys who are exceptional! Gary Carter, Johnny Bench, Bob Boone even…but one name I don't hear much, who SHOULD be brought up as one of the best defensive catchers ever - Texas' Jim Sundberg."

Well, s%*#.

Dude's pretty much out until 3rd week of June.

Thank god Quero is about to go on a tear.

Where's Vasil's wand, now?

Well this absolutely sucks.

Maybe time to start considering Lackey in the draft. With Teel's recent propensity for ouchies might be best to not have him play one of the most demanding positions on the diamond. Though I don't know what you do with him in that scenario.

Not in Charlotte, apparently?

This news absolutely blows. He’s gonna end up missing the entire first half once he’s healthy and has to get a couple weeks to get back up to speed.

If they called him up for the Cubs series, he wouldn't have gotten his cleat stuck in Charlotte.

Man spraining your LCL that badly on a swing is either bad luck or a guy trying to do too much. Maybe a bit of both.

I really feel bad for Teel, hopefully Quero has finally figured things out evidenced by his super day with the bat yesterday.

Up to 6 weeks for a sprain seems excessive, might be a little bit more than a sprain which would mean close to a tear.

Are there any catchers in this upcoming draft? 🥴

A sprain is a tear, just a mild one not requiring surgery. But yea, agree 6 weeks for a non surgical sprain is pretty conservative. I'm guessing at this point they are just going to shut him down for a few weeks. Lotta pool work and bike riding in his immediate future.

Not good at all. hamstring is probably the worst lower body soft tissue injury outside a tendon or ligament rupture. We will be lucky to see him by June in Chicago it seems.

Well the Exhibition baseball season was so important to indulge in

Ugh....another 3-6 weeks sucks. Hopefully no other issues.

i saw somebody post this on reddit and yeah... what the heck is this? I know a little about fitness and cant imagine why Teel was doing these

I ripped up my ACL 50 years ago playing tennis, in those days surgery was the only answer, after surgery I was in a bent cast for 8 weeks then rehab. It was 11 months before I could play tennis again, I’m glad Teel doesn’t have to go through that.
