There are still people that think Bauer would succeed if he was allowed back? Oh boy.

Trevor Bauer is an awful clubhouse fit even if you believe him innocent of any criminal wrongdoing. I also don’t understand why anyone would think a 35 year old pitching in the Nippon League or wherever he is will come back to the MLB and be really good. Not trying to be a dick, but just a bad idea all around.

That's why they have scouts.

Sure, but did those proposing we add Bauer contact one before assuring us he would be the answer to our pitching problems?

I am all for it. You get a guy that will absolutely shove and you also get your entire rotation upgraded… guy is like having another pitching coach on the bench.

There isn’t any reason he should be out of the league - especially since the women set him up and lied.

Dude should have been welcomed back.

Lol Bauer had a 4.5 ERA in japan last year. Nothing about him says he would shove in the MLB. He would get destroyed.

I've also never heard of a player as disliked as Bauer in the baseball world. He wasn't welcomed back because so many players couldn't stand having him around. Francona protected and defended him for years and Bauer even lost Terry by the end.

Trade for Skubal. I have run the analysis and fatter pitchers over perform after age 29 because everyone thinks they will fall apart; but they have big boy strength.

I’ve never been that scared of packages given out for .5 season, news of “franchise altering packages” are dumb. It will be fine.

When work stoppage ends, Jerry will celebrate his only joy in life - crushing the mlbpa - with a big signing à la Albert belle and we will re sign skubal who will be a Sox legend for next decade.

If you want to play games with “control” before a work stoppage, go after buxton + ryan package. Pay them to take rest of benintendi.

Ryan won’t be a premium with just a mutual option, Buxton has injury risk.

I want to review this analysis

I wonder how much worse of would the Sox be if they just didn’t pick up Robert’s option. Acuna has been objectively awful and he hamstrings roster flexibility. If Baldwin and Murray weren’t hurt, I doubt he’d still be on the team. Pauley has been horrid at low A. I will grant, he’s probably a reliever getting starter innings who still could blossom, but guys like him are a dime a dozen. Look at Tyler Davis. UDFA from the Indy league. Acquisition cost = zero. Nightengale is doing a lot of crowing over (imho) nothing.

It goes beyond that. I think the league just doesn’t like him. And I don’t believe that second sentence is true anymore.

He was pretty bad in Japan last year, and is a notoriously bad teammate. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes with Tony, and don't add a toxic dose to what seems to be a pretty solid chemistry mix right now.

Mets were a sucker for sure. And then we had people here posting that the Mets ripped the Sox off.

Robert discourse aside, posted that because second or third time we've seen the sentiment that Sox won't be dealing top prospects in any potential trades.

nvm

Luis Castillo is the odd man out in Seattle behind Kirby, Gilbert, Woo, Hancock and Miller. I don’t think he has surplus value, so shouldn’t cost much. Mariners need a RH bat. Maybe once Hays proves himself healthy, there is a match there.

Castillo is under control in 2027 and has a vesting option in 2028.

This is the right approach…be aggressive, but not stupid.

Also, for reference, here is how much team control we have beyond this season for our existing positional group:

  • 1: M. Murakami (1B)

  • 2: none

  • 3: M. Vargas (3B)

  • 4: B. Baldwin (UT)

  • 5: C.Montgomery (SS) | C. Meidroth (2B) | K. Teel (CA) | E. Quero (CA) | T. Peters | E. Pereira (OF

  • 6: B. Montgomery (OF) | S. Antonacci (LF/IF) | J. Gonzalez (IF)

And this doesn’t include Bonemer and whomever we take at the 1.01, who have strong chances of being part of this core. That is a fuckton of positional talent and most is controllable for a long time.

Outside of extending Murakami and possibly Vargas, we can commit our financial & prospect resources toward the pitching staff. As I mentioned previously, I wouldn’t give up any of our top 5 prospects, but pretty much anyone else I’d be willing to consider trading. Again, be aggressive, but just not stupid.

Other than Braden, none of them should be untouchable.

I wonder if Carlson is a chip they'd part with yet. People were pretty high on him out of the draft. Supposedly has the best glove in the system too.

Might be at some point, but I think you’d be trading low on him right now.

I hadn’t thought of this, but it’s an interesting idea especially since the Giants covet Roch.

That's the dumbest thing Sox related I read on twitter today and time to just mute that idiot on my own feed. Good lord.
