Either that or there's some assumption that the Sox want to counterbalance a college 1.1 with young talent later. I personally don't think this has much of any bearing on the #1 pick.

2 hours ago2 hr Pirates fans should be excited though that KLaw thinks they just got a future All Star for a comp pick

I don't think the league is all that high on Jacob, though. This may very well be a nice sell-high move. Like a lot of things, this stuff always works out if you're able to call your shots. I think Jacob looked a lot like a major leaguer but the ceiling is not super high and we all know his track record up to this season was absolutely horrible, he wasn't even viewed as a starting caliber infielder on Charlotte's squad to start the year.I just don’t agree with this take. You think market value of a comp pick is a major league ready LH hitting infielder with plus plate discipline & power who brings a solid glove at multiple spots and comes with 6+ years of control. The average career WAR for a comp A pick is ~4 I believe. Jacob is on pace for ~1.5 wins as a 1B and his bat is much better than his current season-to-date results. I think as a 2B his floor is a 2 win player and ceiling is much higher than that. Just playing the odds, he will be more valuable than the comp A pick.Jacob’s history isn’t all that relevant. He reinvented his swing this offseason and was finally able to tap into his natural raw power. He came up to the majors and quickly demonstrated he wasn’t just a product of Truist Field. And he isn’t a guy strictly relying on his new found power…he was always a very disciplined hitter. He doesn’t have to hit 30 HRs to be a very valuable player.

2 hours ago2 hr Woods obviously isn't ML level ready. So now we need another ML RP. It could play if in the long run. Maybe there was little market for Jacob G. Trade makes us worse right now.

He’s not very fast, he doesn’t hit for power, he slaps it the other way. Cool. Never seen the league adjust to make that the downside of a projection that’s for sure

It's clear they need more RHH hitters and with Bonemer getting closer and Cholowsky it feels like at least one of them will hit it big. No Grichuk or Hays and maybe no Junior Perez and/or Pereira or Acuna and also already traded Derek Hill . That's a lot of RHH who aren't going to be around.
2 hours ago2 hr I get the trade. Huge logjam at middle infield with Roch or Emerson tomorrow. With this trade you will be able to get two high upside high school players that will hold trade value and sustain the farm system to keep on producing and developing on a consistent basis. It’s a crapshoot, but the MLB analytics weren’t the greatest for Gonzo when he was called up. He’s not playing in Charlotte in the MLB.

Or am I overthinking this??

I think it's likely that Mason Adams eventually gets added as well. So, even though I'm a little sad about this, it's not insane.Just feels likes an overpay and that we should have gotten an actual nice 2nd piece along with the draft pick. I mean, the rumor is Pittsburgh was looking for a quality reliever for then pick prior to this. I struggle to think that an everyday positional player is worth less than that.

2 hours ago2 hr The 35 pick is worth like 9 million.A 45 FV player close to the mlb is worth like 16-20 million.Ignore opinions, etc. Value stinks. 8 minutes ago, Chicago White Sox said:I just don’t agree with this take.
