  1. No thanks on Kremer. 27 years old already and has limited ceiling. Go for someone younger as the 3rd piece.

  2. What number do we think he’ll be wearing? Thinking about making my son a custom DeJong jersey for Christmas to thank him for being a little s%*# this year.

  3. I started a new job. My boss said "Hi, my name is Rebecca, but people call me Becky". I said "My name is Kyle, but people call me Dick". She said "how do you get Dick from Kyle?" I replied "you just ask nicely."

  4. I'm not interested in Outman. He's 26 already with very little MLB track record.

  5. Just out of curiosity who would be 1 and 2 ?

  6. Why would we have been down 2-0 without the AJ play? Couldn’t we have still won the game in extra innings? It’s not like we were losing when that play occurred.

  7. Because Ceases agent is Scott Boras and his clients never choose not to go to Free Agency.

  8. Value depends on the market. We all have a sense of what we feel like a guy “like Cease” would be worth in an average scenario, but realistically the price is going to depend upon how many suitors remain when all the reasonable alternatives to Cease are off the table. I think there’s a good chance that the situation is right for a Cease deal after Yamamoto/Snell sign, because Glasnow should theoretically require a different kind of return — but it’s totally possible that it ends up making more sense to wait until the deadline, accepting the injury risk, since Cease will still have the additional year of control. I wish I had reason to believe that Getz will be able to read the market properly, but we’ll never truly know, since we won’t know what will ultimately be offered. Regardless, I think a deal is really unlikely until the top free agents sign.

  9. Thank you for constantly correcting everyone when they facetiously say they want Jerry to sell. Nobody would ever know

  10. November 24, 1976 - It was another bargain basement free agent signing that turned out well for the White Sox the following season. Pitcher Steve Stone inked a deal for his second go-round with the team. In 1977 Steve would win 15 games pacing the staff that won a surprising 90 games. Even more remarkable was the fact that he tore his rotator cuff while pitching for the Cubs the previous season. He refused surgery and cortisone shots and rehabbed his arm working with a kinesiologist from the University of Illinois. Given all that, for him to make 31 starts, toss eight complete games and pitch 207 innings was incredible. He’d was the first free agent signing in franchise history. Later he’d return to the organization as a broadcaster after a career that saw him win the Cy Young Award with the Orioles in 1980.

  11. Nah...BAL will never allow him to be the third piece. Dude will be a plus defensive SS and can also probably be average offensively. That's pretty valuable. Regarding Montgomery, it seems FG and Law (in AFL he didn't like his defense) both think CM ends up at 3B, so if we can get a plus SS who can hold his own at the plate that would be huge. And then they don't have to worry about Gonzalez being unable to play SS. Ortiz is the second piece and I believe Chicago really wants Cowser as the first piece. Getz wants D and athletic ability not just bat only guys. Some people believe Cowser eventually he will be 55 hit and 55 power to go with good D and arm and he can run as a LHH thats huge if the bat actually comes thru. He can slide right in at RF and if they eventually move Robert he might be able to hold down CF so he provides huge all around value and flexibility. I think if they trade with BAL, they are going to insist on those two guys. I hope they don't use Cease for more pitching. We got pitching in the other trades, you need to develop them. We really really really need some bats that can defend. I would like Hjerstad too for his LHS but Getz doesn't seem to want guys who could end up at 1B even if they are a LHS. Looks like trade values updated their values and if you add Cowser to Ortiz it's actually more than Cease now....something like 50 to 40. If that's an accurate reflection of teams own value systems, we might even need to throw in Colas or someone with 10 or so SV and forego a third piece as well.

  12. JR's not selling regardless of what attendance is. Far to much money coming in from domestic and international streams.

  13. Maybe you need to be a better person. You have no power over me to tell me what to write about no matter how often you try to shame me for not living up to your unusual standards that one must be proud of himself in silence nor speak out against intolerance and bullying. I know it's the nature of men to seek to dominate one another but you should give your behavior more thought than mine.

  16. Think of how much money they would have saved with Royce Lewis at SS and no Carlos Correa deal? They'd actually now be able to afford Sonny Gray on a 2 year year deal, and to fix their bullpen, instead of taking the very typical AL Central "scrap heap" approach to filling out a rotation...I guess they did give Maeda a pretty decent deal as well at one point.

  17. it's amazing how teams are stuck getting rid of the nickle and dime employees while the only reason they are in this boat is what happened with salary escalation year after year of ballplayers. It never slowed down. Even now they are paid so much money when they are more brittle than ever. It's almost impossible for a pitcher to avoid serious arm surgery and players are on the DL all the time as we know too well. But keep cutting scouts and secretaries rather than ever face the real problem (ballplayer salaries are too late to fix; baseball will go broke before those salaries ever stop going up).

  23. I don't understand the rationale behind signing Dejong and trading for Lopez and NOT giving a legit tryout to Sosa or Rodriguez.. Like... We KNOW DeJong and Lopez are garbage, let's see if either of our guys can be just as garbage.. but cheaper.

  25. You asked why they wanted him at all. You didn’t ask why they would want him as a focal point. Those are two very different things.

  26. Castillo fetched 2 top 100 prospects and 2 low level pitchers. I think Castillo was better than Cease is now, but Cease has half a season more control now than Castillo did so I think the return should be roughly the same.

  27. That’s not even a remotely comparable situation to Cease right now. The Reds trading Luis Castillo is a lot more similar to where Cease is at now and the Reds got a good amount for Castillo.

  28. Vazquez wasn’t that bad. There will always be a demand for pitchers who are durable and have the stuff that Cease has. Add on the fact that he has 2 years of control left and they should be able to get a nice haul for him.

  29. That’s their problem then. Cease is durable, has good stuff, and is relatively cheap for the next 2 seasons. Any contender should want a guy like that in their rotation.
