Anyone who thinks they should have 10+ years of life left should be reasonably optimistic about having new owners with money. It's the time left with JR that has everyone scratching each others eyes out here . The mods are power tripping on their support of ultra negative feedback which is of course the side that most of them stand. Shouldn't something like our ability to report posts be private instead of broadcast to the rest of the board ? Apparently it's a feature that people don't use that often but nice to know that if I did use it it could be thrown back in my face by a mod who isn't really trying to be an arbiter of fairness but just supporting the negative boys club . This place should be just shut down for 5 years or the mods should just decide who will be allowed into their negative boys club so they can stroke each others testosterone . Big fish in a small pond egotists. Too many signs of Fascism around here. Lord of the Flies level failure of self governance. It's very chaotic. There's less people posting here now. That's because there's just less interest in the team because they are bad but it's also the toxic environment here. Still a lot posts though because some people revel in being a loud critical voice . It's like being a pyromaniac and lighting things on fire and getting a thrill from watching it burn with other pyros laughing maniacally slapping you on your back.4 points

Listen, I don’t care what you think about us or our “power tripping”. What I called out was absolutely bullshit by him and I would do it again, if someone else did the same thing. I think what the issue is here, is you want your own forum where you can be the power tripping mod. It’s pretty clear how much you try to police everyone on this board and use your history as some sort of a hammer. I just don’t care anymore, your brand of board presence is boring. Sometimes you can couch your condescension and actually participate but damn you just want to make sure everyone knows you are so right about everything and maybe they should listen to you. Lmao So maybe go do that, open your own forum and you can be the power tripper. Enjoy. So, anyways, Back to ignoring you3 points

I like Sosa but he is limited defensively and has zero plate discipline (and hasn’t shown any real improvement this year). I certainly wouldn’t give him away, but if someone was willing to give me say an OF of similar value I’d probably make that trade. The chances of him being more than a role player or second division regular are fairly slim and he can only play a position that we are loaded at. As for Meidroth, he’s a quality defensive player who can handle SS and has two elite skills in his contact ability and plate discipline. His ceiling will be limited if he can’t provide some impact when hitting the baseball, but I still see a 2 win floor at maturity and I fully expect more impact when it’s all said and done. If a high ceiling prospect comes along and pushes him to the bench then so be it, but he’s one of the more productive players we have at the moment in his current state.2 points

This is why you promote from within and the only qualification is "within". He doesn't want to hear free outside advice that he is doing it wrong.2 points

1989 White Sox were a year away from a 90 win team and featured two Hall of Famers in Fisk and Thomas, Ventura, Sosa, McDowell, Fernandez, Hibbard, Radinsky, Thigpen, there's just no parallel there at all in terms of talent.2 points

That would be SO typical White Sox, but the MLBPA will never agree to a salary cap.2 points

The Sox were outdrawing the Cubs 1991-1994. It wasn’t 1984 that broke them, it was Reinsdorf’s role in the lockout. They never recovered from the lockout.2 points

PCA is at 5.2 bWAR. Kyle Tucker is at 4.0 bWAR. Pretty crazy that Tucker was their big acquisition in the offseason and PCA is their true MVP. Meanwhile, we get to be excited about Getz winning the Fedde trade because Vargas has a 0.9 bWAR. Putrid. 🤮1 point

Says every fan of a habitual losing team, Then ask Naylor and Tucker "please become a White Sox" and then trying to imagine their reaction.1 point

^ This sums it all up for me. The Sox will never be "consistently competitive" again (as the OP asked) as long as JR is in charge. Period. This organization is bad in so many ways and there's no quick fix until Jerry's no longer owner and there's a major fundamental change to how it is operated. Right now it's rotten to the core. We're stuck in baseball hell at least until Ishbia takes over and then we just have to hope he makes dramatic changes and actually hires competent people to run this team. That's not guaranteed to work, but it can't be worse than how things are going now. Until Jerry's no longer owner, any talk of which band-aids to slap on this team to make it legitimately competitive is simply a waste of my time.1 point

New owner, New GM and New hitting instructor. This team simply lacks any major league power hitters.1 point

And let's be honest, if this was your team, it would take literally BILLIONS in free agency dollars to try to fill every hole with the type of top quality players it would take to make this a playoff roster.1 point

it will get better when jerry leaves and we blow out every level of the org. i know margalus talked a lot about the organizational "rot" that has happened during jr's tenure, and i think that persists. yes, i know we've changed some things and updated some things and a lot of those are not things that show immediate results, but i remain skeptical. even if our prospects succeed and become good frontline mlb players, jerry is never going to add the piece or two you always need to add to put you over the top. so if this team gets good with the current prospects, i'd just expect to be repeating a sell-off in 3-4 years once we fall short.1 point

I don't think anyone is "giving up" on them, well maybe one person, but in general, it is valid to say that there has been some red flags and/or regressions which are scary in that group.1 point

I don’t credit Reinsdorf with one World Series. Mathematically they should have won at least one over 45 years and should have appeared in three. He doesn’t get credit for winning one in a year when they traded Carlos Lee and Ordonez and nobody got hurt.1 point

The irony of you reporting posts because you don’t like their tone, then calling people slow witted because you don’t like their response, is not lost on me.1 point

I hate to break this to you but you can pretty much plan on it being a lost season.1 point

Is this a serious post? Jerry is one of the worst owners in all of sports even if he lucked into Michael Jordan. Meanwhile, you refuse to give Ishbia a shot at being a successful owner before even gained control because he’s a private equity guy…1 point

😆😆😆😆😆 With the upcoming labor impasse you'll be lucky if JR doesn't order another team payroll reduction this off season. Getz will be allowed to sign a few more retreads, stiffs, injury prone, over the hill guys to fill out the roster. You'll get nothing and like it! 😉1 point

Explain to me how you hate people's posts, but you continue to interact with them. You see it, right?1 point

I don't know why people think site administrators aren't allowed to have their own opinions, but typically tone is answered with tone here. When your post starts off by mocking everyone you disagree with, I sure don't find Tony's response as out of line. Honestly with a meltdown like that, you could have gotten way worse.1 point

I haven't watched more than 3 games this year. I post about them because I follow the team still and have been a fan my entire life.1 point

1. A lot of words doesn’t make it a “thoughtful” post. In this case, it gave you more of an opportunity to say things that were rooted in craziness. 2. I’ll make it easy. Say MLB decided to shake things up, and said every team is getting a new GM. Each team submits a list of 5 GM’s they want, any team can select any executive they want. How many lists does Stearns make, how many does Getz make? The guy that was the GM for 4 straight playoff appearances for the Brewers and a .536 winning percentage? Or the guy currently rocking a .293 winning percentage and currently holds the distinction of being the GM behind the worst team of all-time? And to be clear, YOU made the comparison of Stearns vs. Getz. Not sure what measurement system you’re using to evaluate GM performance. I’d say I’d love to hear it, but that would be a lie.1 point

I'm happy that you like watching the worst sox teams in history back to back years but some of us dont actually enjoy that at all. Hope that helps.1 point

Tray: With respect take a look at the Sox record for example since the start of the 2007 season. They are about to have their 13th losing season compared to five winning ones and a season of playing .500 baseball. That is one of the worst records in MLB over that 19 year period. In my opinion that's nothing to be proud of. To JR's credit at least from 1981-2006 Sox fan could reasonably assume the franchise would be competitive. What caused the drastic change? I'm guessing there were a number of factors.1 point

What is happening to this place? When did everyone go insane? what are we even doing here?1 point

JR is still in control. A future right to purchase doesn’t change that. (And I’m a “corporate attorney,” if that matters.)1 point

It’s literally explained in detail in the second and third paragraphs of the press release. https://www.mlb.com/amp/press-release/press-release-white-sox-announce-long-term-ownership-investment-agreement.html1 point

100% true. The deal announced that Ishbia had zero chance at control until 2029, at least.1 point

Who is the current owner of the White Sox? The answer is Jerry Reinsdorf. Justin Ishbia isn’t even on the front office page on the team website. You are a colossal waste of time. A true imbecile1 point

When you for whatever strange reason want to carry water for the failure of an owner for 44+ years and instead want to blame the new guy who hasn’t even taken over yet, you simply make up stuff I guess… https://www.mlb.com/amp/press-release/press-release-white-sox-announce-long-term-ownership-investment-agreement.html1 point

Jerry is the Trail Blazers not being stupid as s%*# and taking Jordan away from being the worst owner in sports history, even worse than Bill Wirtz was But hey, keep up the water carrying1 point
-
You might want to re read the press release. JR has ceded no power and won’t per the release for at least 5 years.1 point
-
I was referring to the Sox, not the Bulls, even though they haven’t been much better. And if you think one WS in 44 years is a good thing, well, I don’t know what to say to you. You managed to name two positive Sox events in 44 years of Jerry’s ownership of the team. And bad timing? The reunion is for something that happened 20 years ago. 🤣1 point
-
It’s very strange how you cast more blame at the feet of the new Sox owner before he has even officially taken over than you have at Jerry who has failed for the majority of 40+ years.1 point

On one hand you're arguing that Ishbia has power "now" and on the other you're saying maybe he's not in control and maybe we should be worried, so which is it?1 point

He had a press release the day the agreement with JR was announced. The White Sox also made clear JR is still in charge of the day to day operations and that Isbia's role for now would be to help pay down (supposed) debt and potentially get involved in the new stadium negotiations. Just earlier this past week a fan posted here at the site photos of him sitting behind home plate. Said fan posted his impressions of Ishbia and his family and also commented (I assume he spoke to him) that he's a fan, doesn't like to lose and that things would happen quickly. We'll see. Bottom line is that until JR is gone nothing substantially is going to change.1 point

Wait, JR by his own description of his role moving forward is nothing more than a place holder or figurehead. Ishbia has control over the team NOW and is free to invest in it NOW according to the deal described by JR. Where is Ishbia ? Has he even showed up anywhere to speak to fans or even to the sports media to provide some clarity about this strange ownership transition period ? A lot of uncertainty.1 point

I remember Lawrence Holmes said for a Sox player to be successful is to leave the organization. The real work for the next owner is to remove the cancer this organization is. It wont happen overnight.1 point
