I think this signals they aren't planning on carrying Teel, Quero, and Lee on the major league roster. Romo is a very good fielder and gives them some catching depth if they lose Lee when they eventually try to sneak him through waivers. Not a bad move by any means, especially if they can get him to hit.2 points

Another catcher? Well that is probably a statement.2 points

He better be thanking someone. If he had just his White Sox career, he'd probably have been fighting for a major league deal right now.2 points

January 8, 2014 – White Sox legend Frank Thomas, was elected to the Hall of Fame on his first try, with almost 84 per cent support. Thomas played the first 16 years of his career on the South Side, and was a five-time All-Star and two-time M.V.P. in 1993 and 1994. He also was the largest person both in height and weight to win a batting championship when he hit .347 in 1997. He also was the only player in history to hit over .300 with at least 100 runs, 100 RBI’s, 20 home runs and 100 walks in his first seven seasons.2 points

Yes. Who in their right mind would decide to use a fictional character as an internet screen name, right Caulfield? The odds are incalculable.2 points

Lee is a perfectly cromulent backup catcher. As an older fan I appreciate that he's around, and GMs do as well. Seasons are lost on a catcher injury and a -2 WAR "regular" suddenly playing every day. The smart play is to just hold onto Lee until someone inevitably goes down and trade him for a lotto ticket. You do that 20 times over a decade you hit on a couple.1 point

Getz has made it very clear that he wants Benintendi to be a big part of the DH rotation. Obviously you don’t trade Quero to facilitate that, but could be further proof they are seriously open to trading Quero if they can get value for him.1 point

We had a 98 wRC+ from July 1st forward. The only real losses since then are Tauchman and Slater who combined for a ~105 wRC+. If we keep Sosa and use our bench guys appropriately from a platoon standpoint, I think will be a little bit stronger than it was last year. To go from average to good will certainly require Murakami to achieve his projections as previously mentioned. The defense being bad is very much a TBD to me. Robert, Colson, & Meidroth should be fine up the middle. Benintendi is terrible in LF but sounds like they are trying to play him substantially less there. Baldwin was awful in multiple spots, but I think he can improve in the outfield more reps. Hill is a tremendous defender and Pereira should be more than solid in a corner. Vargas is a question mark at 3B, but didn’t look terrible to me. I have no idea how Murakami be at 1B, but I’d hope he’s not awful if he could play 3B in Japan. Catcher is a bit of a wild card but hopefully the rule changes help Quero a bit and I think both him and Teel will continue to improve with time. Don’t think it will be a good defensive unit, but not ready to say it will be bottom five or anything like that.1 point

It probably also means that if a dude like this is on waivers, a guy like Korey Lee isn't worth a spit.1 point

It's still weird that we are hoarding catchers when we refuse to let our catchers do anything other than catch.1 point

Have to think Lee will be traded in early spring for a team that has a injured backup catcher.1 point

Another good move on the margins. Refreshing to finally have some upside guys at the end of the 40 man.1 point

They had 6 catchers going into ST last season (Quero, Teel, Lee, Hackenberg, Thaiss, Narvaez). Romo gets them back to 5 after the departures of Thaiss and Narvaez. Charlotte needs help there, so probably another depth add or two coming.1 point

Was my first thought when I saw this. They should be able to get something for him.1 point

A nice article at SoxMachine that explains Derek Hill's contract, how and why it works. With Derek Hill's split contract, White Sox are trying to create options where none exist - Sox Machine SPOILER: He's paid well if he clears waivers and goes to AAA - that makes him a hefty claim for a minor league OF.1 point

Lol. This isn’t one of the two times a broken clock is right, but keep fighting the good fight. I’m sure being bitter and cynical toward everything is very worth it in the end.1 point

So random question on this. Do we think that the Sox will have an above league average offense next year? Looking at the Steamer projections it sure looks like a 100 wRC+ is probable. Candidly speaking, if Murakami hits his projection I think we could crack the top 10, which would require a 105 wRC+.1 point

Not only are they terrible, Coors will inflate his stats nicely to screw him over for next offseason.1 point

Wasn't ever too much surplus value / window to trade Robert the last three seasons given his performance and injuries. Probably the fact of the matter at this point is the Sox have bigger fish to fry. If he gets moved great, if he doesn't, fine, he's not going to be a part of the next good Sox team either way.1 point

You used the word lie or lying 5 times in this post when referring to Getz over trading a player as if you arent fully aware that GM's and agents all dont partake in some kind of manipulative word games as part of off season rhetoric. You show way more disdain for Getz with your sarcastic blast at anything you perceive as pro Getz with your Oz reference and pretentious use of "lying" than Eddy ever shows in trying to protray a fair picture of the Sox front office. Let's just call a spade a spade . This is all about continuing the narrative that Getz is a villain and ignoring that there has been quite a bit of others buying into what Getz is trying to build . He isn't some Svengali although you seem to revel in portraying him as such.1 point

The only problem I had with Benetti was too many corny "dad" jokes. Otherwise, he was great - a home-grown "voice of the Sox" announcer who could have been here for decades while getting some national broadcasts too. But, we're Sox fans and can't have good things. At least he didn't jump ship to the Cubs - which would have been yet another PR win for the North Siders as they know how to promote their on-air talent. I wonder how well liked he is in Detroit? Some talk radio blowhard ripping on him doesn't tell me what the fanbase in general thinks of him. Schriffen is simply not watchable. He doesn't belong in a MLB broadcast booth. But Uncle Jerry wants someone there who will tell us we're eating prime rib when in reality they're serving us a s%*# sandwich.1 point

I said nothing political. Anyway, I hope all the players get out safely and their families are safe in this time of turmoil1 point

I honestly wouldn't have hated it as a MiLB deal. Charlotte needs a 1B. Hell, he probably would have hit 40 bombs out of Truist.1 point

John Paxson punched a guy and because he was a 40th percentile or so GM kept his job for another half decade. AKME are one of the worst FOs in the NBA and there is zero talk of a hot seat. I realize Michael ostensibly runs the Bulls but this is a JR hallmark. He is extremely hesitant to put in the hard work to find better employees. He's been this way going on two decades.1 point
