I'd love to see Luis bounce back with the Mets. His time with the Sox was obviously a disappointment overall, but I don't mind still rooting for the guy.5 points

It’s admittedly weird to hate someone you have never have met, but my distaste for him is truly immense. Like I hate the dude with a passion for destroying two of my three favorite sports teams. He pretty much lacks any of the qualities I look for in an owner and we have been stuck with himself forever. And he’s so fucking stubborn and refuses to relinquish control because it’s somehow fun overseeing hilariously bad organizations. The only saving grace is that Ishbia is going be very different with a modern perspective on things and that sweet, sweet private equity money.4 points

I know they have 2 Rule 5 guys but it’s not a lock they both even survive Spring Training. Maybe one.2 points

I still wanna see Baldwin rotate all 9 positions in 9 innings in a meaningless September game.2 points

Pretty sweet we have three top 100 prospects that could join the staff this year and another one in Thorpe who should be ready at some point.2 points

I would give Baldwin every opportunity to improve it before giving Kelenic another chance. Hes had 1500 big league appearances and still looks lost. He had Luisangel Acuna exit velo at this point with Javy Baez K rates. Since he was drafted Baldwin has been used in a super utility role. Ultimately that’s what makes him a really nice piece on the team, but he has never really had the opportunity to go into spring knowing where exactly he’s going to play. He has 2nd percentile range with 83rd percentile sprint speed. That’s someone that could really benefit from playing right everyday. His range should jump to at least average once he improves his lines and jumps on balls to right.2 points

God I would love to be a brewer fan and have the problem of making it to playoffs every year.2 points

He apparently deleted this one. Quality work as usual by our favorite colon.2 points

Nah, just sell to Ishbia now and let him build a new stadium at the 78. There's a ton of potential for this franchise that's being wasted under Jerry Reinsdorf.2 points

Yeah, easily the worst OF on paper. That being said, I still really like Baldwin and think he can be a nice player out there with more reps. I think Acuna has a very high ceiling defensively and room for improvement with the bat. If he can find a way to get more loft (which is already working on) and more routinely swing fast I think he could surpass 10 HR’s and that would make him a startable CF (by no means do I think that’s probable, but definitely in realm of possible). I also really like Pereira and think he will be the guy who surprises with more runway. Not a huge Kelenic fan and just feel he’s too much of a head case to radically improve his game at this point.2 points

This team looks so much worse without Robert, my god. That outfield is horrific.2 points

It makes me so mad when I think about it. He talks about how much he enjoys it and stuff and the asshole doesn’t do s%*#. Spends less than he did 25 years ago.2 points

I like all these moves (outside of Acuna) in isolation. But we now have a ton of guys with no options, so these type of moves create some challenges from a roster construction perspective.2 points

This is entirely untrue. The Sox went overslot on their 2nd and 4th round picks by a combined $1.1M and had to go multiple spots under slot and were limited how big of a bonus the could pay in rounds 11 & later (mostly capped at $150k). As such, they only had six total picks with a bonus above Pauley’s and the 5th & 6th round picks within range of Pauley’s payout were generally considered better prospects. None of that means they didn’t like Pauley at the time of the draft.2 points

I'd like somebody to tell us if, when and how bad Colson Montgomery will be injured in the future so Getz could be sure to trade him when he's at his peak value.2 points

Some people seem to think that a dual reality exists around the White Sox, where they have at-bats to give players a shot while also signing bigger names and playing those vets. I'm excited about Acuña and Pereira. Baldwin should really get a clear lane for an OF spot.1 point

He not a gazelle with gap to gap range like Robert Jr. He's more like a smallsh medium size dog who scampers very fast twitchy. He can really burst and his sprint speed is right up there with Hill . I know we have seen various comments on worst outfield in baseball history but we saw a lot of comments last off season about 2025 was going to be worse than 2024 too. I don't think the OF defense is going to suffer that much from losing Robert, Jr., Taylor and Tauchman. The hitting might be pretty bad but hoping Baldwin can go from negative WAR to at least 2 WAR if he can ride the hitting improvement he had in the 2nd half and learn how to use his speed to improve his range enough so his defense doesnt drag down his WAR. Acuna could accumulate WAR defensively and on the basepaths like Robert, Jr. did and if he can have a Sosa-like VZL league improvement ignite a hitting upswing we're not so bad out there. Baldwin's April through June was big nothing burger offensively but OPS after that kept going up. July .759 August .784 Sept. .828 covering 42 games and 141 PA Robert Jr.'s year consisted of 2 sub .600 OPS months, 2 sub .700 OPS months and one .990 OPS month consisting of 59 PA , which is less than any of the other 4 months he played in.1 point

I agree but reading the amount of glee here about a perceived White Sox /Fuller failure even though we all know he is capable of excellence will spark the snark. One blowhard here already stated how much hes looking forward to check the odds on Robert, Jr. for MVP and to laugh at those who sing Fullers praises.1 point

I've said this a billion times at this point but when I saw him from the 3rd row or whatever here he stood out even as a shorter guy as a fairly explosive athlete. Just park him in LF 5 days a week and see what happens. He has the profile to become what in today's game is a 3 WAR corner player. Hell all you gotta do is slash 250/310/420 and play a slightly above avg corner OF. The statcast stuff on him bears this out, he's got a little juice, just hopefully needs seasoning. If not who cares, move on to the next guy. No reason not to give him like 300 PA before the ASB.1 point

It would be wild to assume that minor league deal means will only play at AAA. The Sox have churned their rosters like Amish making butter the last few years. These dudes are almost certainly going to see Chicago for some period of time, more than a few of them will see significant playing time.1 point

Ok. You said not adding seems to fail in the postseason. And then you said the Cubs don’t need to add when the rest of their division is subtracting. So, not adding is bad, except for when it is fine?1 point

The scary thing is if you assume Benetendi is a DH, Melendez and Kelenic could be arguably your 2nd and 3rd best major league outfielders as negative players. While I agree that they should be AAA fodder, if he comes in they'll be releasing articles about swing changes, have a "welcome back to Chicago, MJ" giveaway night, and seeking out banners of former players who are dead for him and Kelenic to walk in front of.1 point

Guys got 1600 at bats in his career an a -1.1 career WAR. Between him and Kelenic, they've got 3000ish career AB's and a .2 WAR. You extrapolate that out over another 30,000 AB's and boom, you've just stole 2 WAR! The White Sox Moto: Where guys with 1500 career at-bats go to "get their opportunity" to show what they can do!1 point

I have no faith yet, but he’s also very to the OF and had to learn on the fly. If you look at his advanced metrics, his defense in the corners was bad as he wasn’t getting good reads on the ball. His range was perfectly fine and he had actually had an average OOA in CF in a SSS. I’m more optimistic than confidence than it makes sense.1 point

This is way too simplistic of an assessment. First & foremost, the infrastructure of the org was complete garbage. Look at the initial wave of trades Getz made and how bad they were. Most of them were small stakes but failed. He did make the Cease trade and that one looks very uninspiring at the moment. Holding off on trading a guy who just had an insane year to allow yourself more time to make improvements in pro scouting & R&D and hopefully improve the likelihood of a good return isn’t necessarily a crazy proposition. We also have no idea what other teams were offering back then. This idea you can just force a trade is absurd, the market has to be there and that’s not always the case when trading a premium asset whose value is tied heavily to team control. No doubt he should have traded him using hindsight, but that’s a really bad way to evaluate a decision making process.1 point

I mean, I get that. I'm in the camp that this is better than buying out Robert. Getz clearly made a fine decision there. But the return is basically nothing. Neither of these guys are going to contribute to the next good Sox team. Acuna would highly likely have been DFA by NYM before opening day and Pauley is more or less just a guy and it would be amazing development if he ever even reached a 40 man roster. I don't expect the Sox to be good next season, but they are considerably worse without Robert. I, for one, was looking forward to him having a smudge of protection and a watchable offense if he played well.1 point
