  1. "I'm not paying for this! You said you were going to fix my car! All you did was make it work like it did previously!"

  2. Nope just the way the medicine works. Been in it long enough and been part of enough depositions and lawsuits you see the patterns. The stuff people will sue for is nuts.

  3. Well at least there's some appreciation around here for how difficult it is to prove cause and effect. As far as Vargas goes, he had murdered AAA pitching to an extent that would have made you believe he would be competent in MLB. He was not-horrible in his first exposure to MLB pitching. Then he had an extended run of bad play with the Sox. Then he had an extended run of competent play with the Sox. I think part of the reason it's not crazy to think that the Sox changed something is because the change in his play from horrible to solid coincided with a change the Sox suggested to his swing/stance. Maybe that was coincidental or bound to happen regardless. The world is a complicated place.

  4. But if you’re going to play that game, then couldn’t people also say this: “Why does Getz get blamed for the team’s failures when he was director of player development? We can’t just assume those players would have succeeded if someone else was in charge.” And I’m not claiming those are my thoughts/feelings. I’m just saying nobody can assume anything in an alternate universe, so it’s okay to be optimistic about the what unfolded last season with several players.

  5. last year was the first year I can remember we had multiple rookies come up and produce positive WAR that I can remember. It was quite encouraging even if we have a long ass way to go. At this point I'd give credit to the players themselves and the new coaches. Hahn showed no ability to nurture talent. He put together a league worst coaching staff in hindsight, at every level of the org seemingly.

  6. No no no.... you're just the kool aid drinking woshipper. The Jim Jones is Getz. Atleast I think that's how that stupid comparison was supposed to go. From a mod no less. Their requirement to be a mod must be low here in all sorts of categories.

  7. Man I can't wait for the Sox to start winning again. The vibe has sucked here lately

  8. and your greviance is what exactly? That you haven't been able to speak? Or you're getting pushback? The amount of threads you've derailed this offseason might be a record.

  9. Japanese media says 8 HR in 29 swings for Mune's BP, with that last one to RF clearing 420+ They're also reporting a change in his swing to cut down on the leg kick. Shohei made a similar adjustment when coming over with swing and miss concerns.

  10. I have never in my entire life met someone who is incapable of admitting they are wrong about something as much as you. It’s actually comical at this point. And then making bizarre “cult” accusations? Like what in the f*** are we even doing here? When are the other mods going to step in and stop this nonsense? Read the damn post. Very clearly stated what he we signed him up to do which is hit LHP. Him being forced to play against RHP was a function of injury and lacking minor league depth. There is a reason he cost us $600k over the league minimum in free agency and then commanded a top 20 org prospect at the deadline. You can try to spin this all you want, but the facts don’t lie. The Sox returned him to his previous form against LHP and were able to turn him a solid prospect. But keep being purposefully dense in a Hail Mary swing at winning the internet for the day.

  11. Guys - We have officially reached the point where people are so bitter about the org that they use data in an unfair way to spin a story to their needs. Austin Slater was signed to be a short-side platoon bat. As such, let’s lay out the facts here in terms of his production wRC+ against LHP: 2017-23: 131 2024: 66 2025: 137 w/ White Sox Slater was an elite hitter against LHP through 2023. He was legit terrible against them in 2024. The White Sox proactively signed him in free agency for a cheap $1.5M, which SoxTalk mocked the org for claiming he was their “#1 target”. After signing with us, he quickly returned to his previous form. He was so good against LHP that despite being a rental and just a platoon guy, he was able to command a top 20 org prospect at the deadline. The signing was a no doubt home run. Anyone arguing we didn’t “fix” him is either being purposely dishonest or simply so uninformed about the player that they don’t understand his role to begin with.

  15. Again, no idea what people are arguing here. I have never once suggested we were a world class hitting organization. But what I can tell you is I just the endured the entire Rick Hahn era where we couldn’t develop a prospect to save our lives and frequently signed bargain bin free agents to no success. Slater & Tauchman were relatively small wins, but signs that the infrastructure is hopefully improving and won’t just burn cash every time we sign a free agent. Same goes for the young bats like Colson, Teel, Baldwin, & Quero who came up this year and were effective right away as well as second year guys like Vargas & Sosa who made tremendous strides. I can’t remember a time when this many young bats came up and were contributors this quickly. Maybe that’s how it’s everywhere else, but it certainly hasn’t been the case here. Gives me some hope we may not longer be the most incompetent org in all of sports.

  16. I saw this thread at 4 pages and thought there was some good ST stuff in here from the first day of camp, but alas...

  17. How many hitting prospects have come up and been productive for the Sox? And how many scrap free agent signings have worked out in the past? No one is calling them “geniuses”, but it’s remarkable improvement from where the org was and I’m shocked that people aren’t willing to admit it.

  18. You just accused me of being in a cult. A moderator said this after I proved him wrong using numbers. Me saying you refuse to acknowledge when you’re wrong isn’t “name calling”. I’m not some snowflake and don’t really care about the bizarre cult comment…just shocked that a moderator is allowed to talk this way to posters.

  26. You did not enter this specific conversation with stats. These were your first two posts after the “fixing” discussion started: ”In a question asked about who they FIXED, you gave four guys that haven't yet taken a swing in anger for the Chicago White Sox.” ”Mostly that you didn't really answer the question, you asked the question you wanted to answer, and answered it instead, after catching a tone about the question daring to be asked in the first place.” When people refer to you derailing threads, those are the exact type of comments they are talking about. It’s not always just baseball discussion and stats with you. You have an issue with WestEddy, and you never hesitate to start shít with him.

  30. lol... I would love to meet a cult that talks about their cult leader like the supposed Soxtalk cultmembers talk about Getz. "I wasn't happy when Guru Steve took over the commune and some of what he did at first was kind of dumb but he's made some decent decisions lately. I'll see what happens."

  32. What exactly are we arguing here? Yes, they sucked in the first half when a lot of the young guys weren’t up (or struggling) and instead they played a bunch of AAAA guys. Go look at where the offense performed in the second half as young guys further developed. I’m not giving out credit because I’m some homer…the front office actually put together a competent offense together July forward.

  34. Very interesting Sox in the Basement Podcast/Interview with dudes commissioned by the White Sox in 2024 to conduct a study on hitting. Some of the focus was on fixable issues in amateurs and post-hype players.

  35. Have enjoyed a peaceful "purgatory" after technically losing the bet with CWS. (Munetak(i) Murakami's officially in camp with Nishida...but anyway, lurking is more fun and less time-consuming.) That said, the board dynamics haven't changed all that dramatically...it's another version of the 80/20 rule, with just a slight change in that 80%. And that likely won't ever be "cured" until new Sox ownership is in place and everyone in Sox Nation gets to enjoy a fresh start, or maybe even a "rebirth/renaissance," if everything breaks totally right. Dear WestEddy: Baby Metal (jpop) will not EVER be in a SuperBowl halftime show. Aespa Twice (also Victoria's Secret spokesmodels) Blackpink IVE BabyMonster (see above) IU/Bae Suzy Kpop Demon Hunters (when the second animated movie comes out...or spin off) All fit the NFL's international marketing approach much more closely. Or simply bringing the Korean/Taiwanese/Japanese dance-pop cheerleading style to the States. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

  40. The thing Bruce is quoting Getz on is in the context of Getz being asked whether they're looking at playing Teel in the outfield or Quero perhaps some other place and he was poo-pooing those ideas specifically. I don't think it's meant as a statement about whether they might get some DH reps (although it won't shock me if they ultimately decide not to use the DH slot to give them ABs).

  41. I only listened to the last third, which was Jim and James' takes on where the Sox farm system is, now. They both put it middle third, but say the Sox have finally gotten to the point where they can see how far behind they are because of the failure of International. They won't catch up from the draft and Rule 5 guys. They need to be pumping Latino and Asian dudes through to have a stream of bullpen arms and utility guys which they just don't have now.

  43. February 9, 1988 - Another one of the smaller moves completed by Sox G.M. Larry Himes that paid off in a major way. Himes shipped pitcher Jose DeLeon to the Cardinals for pitcher Ricky Horton and outfielder Lance “One Dog” Johnson. Johnson, would blossom into one of the better defensive center fielders in the American League, become a solid hitter and steal 226 bases in his eight years on the South Side. He led the American League in triples four straight seasons between 1991 and 1994. Johnson would have a 25-game hitting streak in 1992, batting .439 during that stretch and would also collect six hits in six at-bats in a game at Minnesota on September 23, 1995. Three of his six hits were triples. His most significant defensive play came as part of Wilson Alvarez’s no-hitter in Baltimore on August 11, 1991. In the eighth inning, Johnson sprinted to his left and dove full out catching a low line drive off the bat of Chris Hoiles to save it. He would sign a free agent contract with the Mets after the 1995 season.

  44. I think the general consensus was that Maye played terribly for most of the playoffs and got carried by their defense. The Patriots defense didn't give up more than 16 points in any of their AFC playoff games. Whereas while Caleb did not play well for large portions of his playoff games, he put the Bears in a position to win. You could argue they won against the Packers because of him. I don't think you can say the same for Maye.

  45. I think it’s just he was horrendous in playoffs. Played the one qb who did worse in playoffs, (stroud) then needed 10 pts against Stidham. Caleb threw into but amazingly has a positive EPA to Mayes like negative .4

  46. I think of the two items, patriots D was legitimately good and deserved to be in the Super Bowl. Vrabel is a wizard there. but it is incredible how lucky their path was. It was patriots esque.

  47. Having a top heavy system is fine if you have a constant supply of boom/bust type prospects coming out of your international and domestic scouting operations. Hopefully Getz can continue to expand those areas.
