5/20 Sox @ Mariners - 3:10PM
People seem to get the math with batting order but not defensive value. It's odd. If you have a elite leadoff hitter, but your utility guy has better numbers or is "better" leading off than he is elsewhere, you wouldnt argue to bat your typical leadoff hitter 9th or, more appropriate for 3rd vs SS, 6th because everyone gets that it equals fewer at bats for a great player so you wouldnt do that. 3rd and SS are the same thing. SS gets more chances and has many more chances to positivity impact the game defensively than 3rd base. By placing the superior defender at 3rd, you limit his chances so that you can get an inferior player more chances. It's complete nonsense. It's even dumber than the Grant Taylor opener thing, which thankfully they came to understand. Hopefully they figure this defensive one out. Radio made it sound like Acuna caused the stolen base which led to a run. This doesn't even account for the fact that this is still a game played by people and players earn roles through play.

Ive exhausted this bit and argument so wont keep it going too much, but you wont find another elite (top 3) defensive shortstop in the past 50 years who jumped around positions.

Colson starting at a position not named shortstop again. Reset the counter. It's been 0 days since the White Sox did something inexplicable.

Trade Proposals
No, that is absolutely not a collection of a title contending arms. Most of those guys completely stink. Anthony Kay has an xERA of 5.94, a FIP of 5.34 and 6.6K/4.27BB 9. It's been fun having some things go this teams way for the first time in what feels like forever, but lets not mistaken that for things like Anthony Kay has a future on a contending team.

Trade Proposals
Sox aren't competing this year. They still don't have enough pitching to compete next year at a high level. That basically makes Taylor a luxury and not a necessity. They can move him for some young starting pitching and OF'ers. He's as valuable as a deadline player gets. As I said, I prefer they keep him and start him but if he's in the bullpen, bye bye.

Trade Proposals
No reason he couldn't push 150 coming off an 80+ IP season. Schultz threw 73 innings last year, and I'd bet he gets pushed to the 140-150 range (I'd hope so!). None of this has made sense to me though. They moved him to the pen because of "injury" concerns regarding his extension. If that's the case, they should trade him tomorrow since it's not as if the Pen is somehow safer (IMO) for a guy with arm concerns. If they think he can stay healthy, he should be pitching every 5th day. I think most of the predictive-arm injury science is quackery (like doctors telling you not to give your kids peanut butter, and then boom peanut allergies explode) since we've seen the results of "optimization" so I'd keep him and throw him in the rotation.
-
Trade Proposals
Make him the closer this year, no matter to me. If we enter next year and Grant Taylor is in the bullpen for the White Sox, they have failed. Bullpen arms are like running backs. You don't have to spend assets to find an elite one, and most of their reigns are very short because of the volatility.

Mike Vasil "The Wizard"
Sorry I missed it because I was too busy watching the guys actually play the game! Giving cheerleaders attention are for football and basketball, not baseball.

Trade Proposals
Sox really can't blow the Taylor situation. If he is going to be a reliever, they need to trade him this deadline and get an absolute haul for him. I still want him to start, but the more entrenched he gets in the bullpen the less likely that is. He can net more than anyone that will be available this year and they need to capitalize on that market now.

Five Sox prospects in the updated MLB Pipeline Top 100
Put it in the minor league thread, meant to put it here: Brandon E. Which prospect would you have moved the highest up since your offseason list? Keith Law Senior Writer, MLB Thu @Brandon E. Caleb Bonemer comes to mind. AJ Ewing, although I may never get the chance to rank him again. I'm ready to run Ethan Salas right back up the board.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
You're killing me smalls. I was responding to this comment: "I just did a little survey, and every single mock draft/draft prospect ranking I could find (ESPN, NY Times, Bleacher Report, MLB.com, Sports Illustrated, Baseball America, Perfect Game, Bleacher Nation, and several others) had Cholowsky as their #1" Also, it's not crazy for teams to not take the perceived #1 player in baseball if they are not clearly above the pack. That's been my entire point here. Roch hasn't separated himself; so much so that there are people that are creating mocks with him not going #1. I wouldn't be shocked if Lackey closes really strong and Roch stays where he's at, if we don't see some evaluators sprinkle some Lackey in there.

Struggling with reading comprehension over there? "I posted the Athletic (NY Times) most recent mock draft in this very thread where Emerson is the first pick, so not sure what your source/consensus was from there." "he is still Laws #1 Prospect" ☠️

Huh? Keith Law hasn't posted any updated mocks since that one. Agreed GreenSox, he is still Laws #1 Prospect. If Lackey continues to terrorize, if Law has any ying to the yang left in him he'll bump him up and go against consensus!

I posted the Athletic (NY Times) most recent mock draft in this very thread where Emerson is the first pick, so not sure what your source/consensus was from there. I agreed he is still the #1 prospect for most in my post. The statement is the field has come to him. If a long time is 6 years... maybe? Bryce Harper and Strasburg back to back years were guys with no doubt, and Id put Gerrit Cole on that list two years later, who was a first round pick out of high school who went to college and dominated.

I dont know what essentially means here. It's doing some heavy lifting though. He's been roughly 10% worse relative to college peoduction vs last year (155 wRC+ vs 164 last year). He's struck out more and walked less.

this guy is living the same life as me! although I don't have a fathead of PCA on my ceiling so we have some minor differences!

BPA for me, always... and especially with the first pick. Drafting for need in baseball is a death sentence in the long run.

Dansby been worth 30 fWAR as a shortstop. Much of his value is derived from his defense with a 98 career wRC+. Let's call it 70/30 defense/offensive value. 21 to 9. Short is 3 times more valuable than second. Meaning dansby would be about a 16 career WAR 2nd baseman if nothing about his profile changed. If we say he's better at 2nd relatively speaking because of his skills at short, we could weigh his defense up 25% at 2nd and call it 19 WAR. Either way, Dansby Swanson is a much less valuable player at 2nd base than he is at short.

2026 MLB Draft Thread...White Sox Control Draft/V.Lackey closing fast
These stats are much more useful for pitchers than hitters in my opinion. The best pitchers I saw in college in my day went to Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast. That wasn't an abnormal experience either. Saw a bunch of Friday studs who went on to get drafted that weren't playing at big schools. I'll say that the bullpens were always better against top competition, but starters can be pretty spread out.

Sure, here's one by Keith Law that has them going with Emerson just two weeks ago (not that I agree with that!): https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7255697/2026/05/07/mlb-mock-draft-2026-grady-emerson-chicago-white-sox/ Additionally, if you follow the draft coverage it is pretty much unanimous that Roch has fallen back to the pack behind him (or they caught up to him, however you want to phrase it). Do I think most would still call him the top prospect in the draft? Yes. Do I think he's a slam dunk #1, obviously not. As noted, I'd rather draft Lackey as his stock is trending up.

You keep saying this, and I just don't get it. The problem with Roch is he's been worse this year than last year. That's concerning for a prospect. This idea that the kid is some slam dunk 1-1 is only something I read at Soxtalk.

5/18 White Sox @ Seattle 8:40pm CDT: Schultz vs Woo
The rare colson error. My sign to go to bed.
