  1. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) I'm kinda blah about last night. Some real quick KO's but it annoys me on sloppy MMA stand up is. These guys need to learn to keep the hands up after throwing punches. No wonder there are so many KO's these days, people just leave themselves wide open for attacks. Carwin had a nice win but he's still got a ways to go. Lesnar wouldve caved Carwin's face in given the same openings Gonzaga had. Brown/Sell was entertaining. I didnt care to see this match but atleast I got a good laugh out of it. Hamill looked good. I think they are really protecting him though with his last to fights. Time for him to take it up a notch or two in competition. Rampage/Jardine was a good fight. Rampage didnt look that great but got a win against a good guy. I think Rampage's only chance against Evans is to land that one big punch but Evans is just so fast. Plus it'll be Rampage's 3rd fight in 5 months and that will take a toll on his body. The saving grace though is the fight vs Silva was over really fast and even though it went 3 rounds vs Jardine, Rampage really didnt take any big hits that would take some recovery time. Id assume given a week or two he would be fine to start training for his next fight.
  2. QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) I would not be so sure. The way I am seeing things with my crystal ball I see Gordon making the team with zero games played at 2B before ST. They wouldnt do it if for no other reason dont want to start the arbitration clock early. If anything it would be similar to Longoria on the Rays.
  3. I still think regardless atleast to begin the season, Getz or Nix will start at 2B
  4. I took a break last year but ready for fantasy baseball again this season. Prefer head to head league with just the standard 10 categories.
  5. If Contreras and Colon are able to be healthy and ready to go, I think our starting rotation has a chance to be pretty special this season. The offense on the otherhand, Im a little worried about.
  6. QUOTE (T R U @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 12:59 AM) Believe me, I am LOLing at this too I dont know why, from what I understand its a 1 year deal. Owens has always been good his first year on any team he has been on. This gives the Bills 2 dynamic WR's and now whoever is QB if given ample time should be able to shred defenses.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) For all of those who want us to chase Rodriguez, let me ask this question... Why would he want to come to Chicago? He isn't going to get more than 50 games, and a very low salary here. Even if the money is bad else where, someone has to be offering more than a 30-50 games a season back up position. I dont know, AJ might not be happy but I wouldnt mind Pudge getting atleast 1 start per series, and if he hits a particular hot streak or AJ gets cold can ride him out. Even so, he will go to whatever team offers him a contract, economy is bad and players cant afford to be picky anymore. Oh, and if AJ has a problem with it he can grow up, this is professional baseball he is making a good amount of money, he should be able to make personal sacrafices for the good of the team.
  8. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) You're insane. I'm glad we finally got rid of Swisher, but to actually say Betemit, Marquez, and Nunez is better then Swisher, Gio, and DLS, you're crazy. There's no secret I'm a Sweeney fan, but to actually say Betemit is better??? I like Betemit, he's a solid utility infielder and a decent hitter, but to actually prefer him over Sweeney? With Sweeney, you're talking about at the least a very solid outfielder. If we had Sweeney right now, you're talking about a solid option in CF. How in the world is a utility infielder greater then a starting CF, regardless of who? Then you say Marquez is better then Gio. That's pretty silly as well. Marquez seems like at best a 4th or 5th starter and a poor mans Jon Garland (and Garland ain't all that expensive to begin with). Gio at least has potential to be more then a 4th and 5th, and is still a bit younger, not to mention his stuff is MUCH better. Then finally, DLS = Nunez? DLS has more potential then anyone of the 6 players. If healthy and in a bullpen role, he can thrive. Nunez might be a decent bullpen reliever, but he isn't worth the potential of DLS. We got a good haul for Swisher from the Yankees, but what we gave up to get Swisher in the first place was a ransom for the A's. Ok first off you dont know a thing about DLS or Nunez, so not even going to discuss that. Gio has a better curve thats about it, he got blasted in bigs last season and its mostly thought because of his frame he will end up in the bullpen. And Sweeney, he hit for a decent enough avg and whatnot, but his OPS was in the low 700's. Brian Anderson can match that and give you a ton better defense as well. Betemit has hit double the amount of HR's as Sweeney in half the amount of ab's before.
  9. A lot of times "open competition" is very untrue. At the very least Fields came into spring training with a 70/30 advantage over Viciedo to start the year at 3B for the whitesox. That being said, if Fields struggles or if any of the following get hurt: Fields, Quentin, Dye, Konerko, and Thome..... Viciedo would be the first one up. Chances are on of the above will happen.
  10. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) To Jason freaking Dubois in a blowout game we won. That's lame. How many teams will ever go through 3 closers in a season and win the world series, what a magical year.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) Andre Johnson(yes) Larry Fitzgerald(yes) Brandon Marshall(yes) Greg Jennings(NO) Anquan Boldin(NO) Reggie Wayne(NO) Steve Smith(yes) Randy Moss(not anymore) Roddy White(Maybe) Hines Ward(NO) Marques Colston(NO) Chad Jonson (I'll chalk up last year as an aberration)(NO) Donald Driver(NO) Torry Holt(NO) Calvin Johnson(NO) So you made a list of 4 WR's and if he repeats this season Id include Roddy White.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) Ya know, as much as I loved that game, I have to believe that at this point it would be absolute crap compared to the show 08 (the last one I've purchased). The graphics would be terrible, the movement of the players would be more unrealistic, and the controls would be unbearably slow and unresponsive compared to what is out there now. At the time it was the greatest, but I dont think it could compare anymore. I haven't gotten 09 yet. Anyone else have a review of it? The demo seems fine. I don't really feel like dropping 60 bucks on an updated roster from 08. Not true, I just played MVP 05 a couple weeks ago and still in love with the game. The only thing that was annoying is out-dated rosters, but graphics were fine for me and gameplay is just awesome.
  13. I dont know if this actually makes sense but, Im going to say Richard has the chance to make a bigger impact for sure, but as a relief pitcher. If we are comparing them as starters only, I think Broadway has a better shot to stick.
  14. ive given up on this season. Vinny del Negro should be on the hot seat, I wouldnt be surprised if he was fired after just 1 year.

This is also the first time Ive been hearing some 300 hate, personally I loved the movie.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Another thing to think about...there's a reason why guys like Housh are more interested in going to places like Seattle and Philadelphia than they are Chicago...because of the QB situations in those cities. Everyone knows the Bears are a running team...the Bears are where WR's go to die. You stick Cutler in there, and suddenly a few WR's might actually want to come to Chicago. Players are going to go wherever they going to get paid the most, if we threw the money at TJ or whoever he probably would of had us on his top teams list too.
  17. Hopefully Owens is playing himself off the majorleague roster. It would be nice having Brian Anderson start in CF to begin the season and carry all 3 of lillibridge/Getz/Betemit. I kinda liked Nix the moment we aquired him, but admittingly I was a Laynce Nix fan too.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Actually, I'm afraid I have to disagree with your main point here, the stats don't back you up. Unless Alexei went down 0-2 an awful lot, there's no way he can be judged as a patient hitter. He's about as aggressive of a swinger as there is in the major leagues. His OBP last year was .317, with a batting average of .290. .350 is usually my goal for a roughly adequate OBP for a leadoff hitter. Alexei just doesn't take a walk. Furthermore, many sites actually keep track of the # of pitches seen per plate appearance. It's a useful tool for telling whether or not you're looking at an aggressive hitter or patient hitter. Out of qualifying batters in MLB last year (3.3 at bats per game), Alexei was the 4th lowest P/PA in baseball. He's as free of a swinger as there is; the guys right in front of him in that list are AJ Pierzynski and Vlad Guerrero. That doesn't make him a bad hitter or anything, it just means his style of hitting isn't well suited to leadoff. On the other hand, I still think he'd be an excellent #2 hitter since he makes contact so often. I kinda disagree with your take on Alexi. It seemed watching him, he had no problem taking a ball. Just when Alexi swung at a pitch, he put the ball in play moreso than most hitters. I do want him at the bottom of the order though.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) You have to be some kind of retarded to join the military to drink. Lol you give people too much credit
  20. I dont think I suggested that anyone should lose their voting rights, that was just 1 poster making a point. Speeding limits are a little different because they apply to everyone no matter your age. So not really a fair comparison in my opinion. Maybe make an exception if you join the army/navy/etc you should be allowed to drink. Id assume that might even help bring in more recruits so it works.
  21. I live in the NW Suburbs, aka Cubby heaven. I still dont hate the Cubs like everyone else does, I actually enjoy watching them sometimes. The two teams that I do not care for at all are the Yankees/Redsox. I also root for AL Central teams especially in the playoffs if the Whitesox are not affected by it. Although the Twins do annoy me sometimes, it helps Brad Radke, Torri Hunter, and AJ Pierynzski arent playing for them anymore.
  22. I dont really think Danks belongs on that list. He was just another played that had his struggles his first season up in the bigs and progressed from it. If you kept track of him in the minors he always struggled when he reached a new level and than righted the ship later on.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) On Thursdays, I work split shifts, 4:30am-10am than 5pm-10pm. When I get home after my first shift, I usually put in a movie and take a nap. Today, I chose something I hadn't watched in a LONG time. SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. I didn't get to take my nap. I was watching that movie, and than my 360 got the red ring of death. I havent watched it since
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) The difference becomes the ages and stages. When an 18 year old votes, there is an assumption in this country that only qualified candidates are allowed on the ballot. What is the down sides to them making a mistake and voting for the "wrong candidate"? But if you think they should have to wait until 21, I would be interested in learning why. If you also believe that military service should begin at 21, I guess I would be interested in hearing why. It seems that most 18 year olds have the capacity to serve, and serve well in the roles they are given. Most 16 year olds know right from wrong and the consequences of their actions. When they commit a crime, they should receive an appropriate punishment. There should be some flexibility based on the unique facts of the particular case, for young adults who fall in the gray area of 15-18. If you believe that they should also be allowed to drink and vote, again, I do not see the parallels. I can hear the howls of protest if a lawmaker said, since this age group can't drink, we are also taking away their right to vote and serve in the military. The only thing im going to say is, if at 18 your old enough to die for your country but not drink alcohol? To me that seems like quite an injustice in our society. At 18 most are either out of highschool or close to it also, so it would make sense that it be the legal age.... especially since college kids are going to drink anyways while at college.
