BA's Prospect Blog with a couple posts about Sox guys
GoodAsGould replied to danman31's topic in FutureSox Board
Can only hope Danks tears the cover off the ball down in WS so he can join the rest of the group in Birmingham this season, if it got to that point Id might really try and make it down for a series. Also, I think this is going to be a big year for Lucas Harrell, he seems healthy and along with Getz has been a favorite prospect of mine. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) She wasn't mentally ill, or incapacitated. She could think, and read, and vote and represent her voters' interests. And she chose to do so despite horrific physical obstacles. She deserves to be commended. Did I not say she did a great job considering what she was going through..... just imo someone who is an elected official should have the duty to one either step aside if something like this is going through their life or atleast make it public from the begining.

i can understand it to an extent, I wouldnt need everyone to have short haircuts, but if I was an owner I wouldnt let any of my players run around like Magglio does nowadays.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Did you even read the article? I skimmed it and what i read was she could barely hold a file at times and had to lean heavily on her staff, and this is a positive article that had those points in it even while praising her. So, in all reality it was prob a little worse than this article makes it and she probably should have stepped down, atleast temporarily. Not taking away that for being sick she did a very good job.

While what she did was pretty remarkable, She obviously wasnt able to do her job to the best of her capabilities during this entire mess and probably would of been a good idea to step aside, atleast temporarily.

Is Curt Schilling a hall of famer?
GoodAsGould replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in The Diamond Club
If I was a voter I wouldnt vote him in, but I tend to be more strict than most voters who tend to think its the Hall of really good instead of the Hall of Fame. The one thing that might put him over the top is his post-season performance, but to me he is not in. -
Wow, 3 fouls on one possesion against Butler, I really hope refs arent so whistle happy the entire tourney.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) Trent Dilfer is great on NFL Live. However, if your going to use him as a part of a trend... you may want to include some additional names. Last 12 SuperBowls 98 -- Elway, Favre (both pro bowlers) 99 -- Elway, Chandler (both pro bowlers) 00 -- Warner, McNair (both pro bowlers 01 -- Dilfer, Collins (neither pro bowlers) 02 -- Brady, Warner (both pro bowlers) 03 -- Johnson, Gannon (both pro bowlers) 04 -- Brady, Delhomme (both pro bowlers) 05 -- Brady, McNabb (both pro bowlers) 06 -- Roethlisberger, Hasselback (both pro bowlers) 07 -- Manning, Grossman (manning -- PB) 08 -- Manning, Brady (Brady -- PB) 09 -- Roethlisberger, Warner (both pro bowlers) 20 of the last 24 SB Qb's made the pro bowl. Now that fact is not without its faults... but i think its generally indicative that Trent Dilfer is an exception to the rule... and definitely not a TREND. Pretty much the only crappy QB's of that bunch are Dilfer, Collins, Johnson, and Grossman. And in Dilfer's case that defense was pretty special good similar to that of the 85 Bears defense. -

16 year old hitting 500 ft homers...

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) That's pretty awful that pro sports teams are making a 16 year old kid play 125 baseball games a year. My guess is he burns himself out on the sport by the time he's 19 and fills that void with a cocktail of drugs that would make Josh Hamilton squirm. I think the money and the dream of being in the big leagues will keep the kid plenty entertained. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) These threads bring up so many hilarious old memories/threads I miss the thread where Juggernaut was explaining how it was ok for him to do his child's homework.

Yeah, that is ridiculous. A quarterback cant be good in chicago because of the weather?!?! I mean you are aware that Denver has a ton of snow too, and a good amount of NFL teams are in cold environments with bad weather similar to Chicago or worse.... -

I played soccer up until highschool, that being said while I did love playing it, watching it is a borefest too me. Ill watch the worldcup at times but thats pretty much the extent of it. It will always be behind the 3 major sports in America though(football, baseball, and basketball).

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) What tells you he wasn't the best? Nobody is a complete back like him. Nobody can catch it, run with it, and block like Forte can. Johnson isn't an every down guy and neither is McFadden. Ray Rice didn't show me that much last year and while I like Kevin Smith, he is no Forte. Id say Slaton, Johnson, McFadden, hell who knows Rice showed flashes when given a chance and we dont know how good Mendenhall will be. Johnson and Slaton were arguable better runners last year and I think if given the ball more McFadden has the most talent of the bunch. -
KW: Looking for leadoff hitters in 2009 draft
GoodAsGould replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Id really hate if we pass on a better player to draft a "leadoff" guy. In baseball you never draft on need in my opinion, atleast in the early rounds where the top talent is available. -

GoodAsGould replied to ozzfest's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Matt Forte might be the 3rd or 4th best RB in last years draft alone, the fact people are so against trading him with a guy like Cutler available baffles me. Not saying we prob wont get Cutler anyways but if the scenario did happen and the only thing holding it up was Forte...... -
I forsee our opening day lineup being this: CF: Jerry Ownes 2B: Chris Getz LF: Carlos Quentin DH: Jim Thome 1B: Paul Konerko RF: Jermaine Dye C: AJ Pierznski SS: Alexi Ramirez 3B: Josh Fields Not saying I agree with it, but Ozzie being Ozzie, this is what I see happening.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) The best case for putting Alexei in the 2 hole is that you're adding another excellent offensive talent to the top of the lineup rather than a poor hitter who may have a little speed. Giving your best hitters more plate appearances over the course of the season is never a bad thing, if he's hitting 2nd there's going to be more than a few close games where he gets an extra PA compared to the bottom of the order where they may not make it back to him. This is definitely a good thing. The negative about it though is Alexi isnt exactly a high OBP guy so he isnt going to be on base as much as you'd ideally like with the big boppers coming up behind him. Also Alexi has the ability to drive in runs, and the 2 hole isnt the most ideal spot for that either. I kinda like Ramirez towards the bottom because in my opinion helps makes the entire lineup dangerous and probably gives him more chances with runners on base.

QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) Yeah, you're right. I wasn't thinking clearly. It's this years draft, so it's last years records that matter. Duh. (Not enough caffeine this morning.) The Nats get the #1 pick due to their pathetic 2008 record and the #10 (I think) pick as compensation for not signing Aaron Crow. Playing for the Nationals. Yikes. If the choice was between that and death, death looks pretty good. If they get a competent GM, this draft can be what sets the franchise on the right course. They got a couple pieces on the big league team with Ryan Zimmerman and Lastings Milledge. John Lannan looks like he will atleast be a middle of the rotation guy. Also if he can stay out of trouble Elijah Dukes showed flashes last season of being a dangerous hitter and their top prospect Zimmerman looks like a future top of the rotation guy. I think a good GM can turn around the franchise in relatively few years. -

Well for one, the Cowboys offense scored 100 more points than their previous season b4 TO, that seems like a pretty damn good impact in my book. Eagles offense only went up 12 points, but TO did miss a couple games that season and Mcnabb had far and away his best season ever as an NFL QB, taking a lot of pressure off of Westbrook. I give the Bills better odds because Miami too me seemed like kinda a fluky/gimmicky team and dont think its going to work two seasons in a row. Hell you can just look, their points scored to points allowed difference is pretty minimal.... equal to that of the Bears pretty much.... they werent as good as their record was. -
If anything they should move up the St. Pierre or BJ Penn title shot. They both have had more time than what Rampage will and Penn especially needs to defend that belt.
-
I still say best case scenario, Alexi struggles at SS so moving him to CF makes sense. Call Beckham up and one of Lillibridge/Nix/Getz hopefully pan out and produce at 2B.

GoodAsGould replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
wow, TRU you need to relax.... I think the great majority of people differ from your opinion on the signing. Fact of the matter is, the Eagles and Cowboys both got better TO's first year there. He also was perfectly fine in the locker room his first season there as well, and the Bills were smart about it and only gave TO a 1 year deal. So unless he gets an extension mid-season, there is no reason to think that this was anything but a good signing. Also, while still f/a needs to be signed and the draft, Id definitely give Bills better odds on making the playoffs over Miami next season.
