  1. turn the arrow upside down please guaranteed rate pllleeaaaassseee *wails*
  2. eh, this is silly. He was above average last year offensively. He's above average this year. It's just average for a first baseman. He's 14th out of 31 qualified 1st baseman in wRC+.
  3. While 2 thursdays after sundays is rough, I do feel like having a young team should help, esp because it offers those "mini byes". Bears got a lot out of their post-washington mini-bye last year.
  4. I'll say this for Vaughn. If we didn't have him, we'd have a cycle of 36-37 y.o. free agent 1B that were good 4 years ago and are on their way to retire. He is definitely outperforming that hypothetical with 0 WAR and at only a few million. So it took the 3rd overall pick, but it's saving Hahn a bunch of edwin encarnacions. Like I'd bet Carlos Santana would be our 1b without Vaughn. And uh, woops ok so he has a higher WAR due to DH but we are getting a nice 20% more offense and a cool $6 million back in JR's bank. Huge W for Jerry.
  5. Need to change this to “Resign Hahn!”
  6. I am not sure I’ve ever been more wrong about anything than I was about how Lopez would fare this year
  7. I couldn't bring myself up to discuss but BA had ratings for the previous class. There were 14 players added to our division before the sox showed up in the 70s. Is there actually, probably a real difference in talent between 30 and 70...probably not. But boy it sure would be easier to trust that the sox are the smarties if they were not so horrendous on the field for over a decade.
  8. no front office should come out of a lost decade (no playoff appearances from 2010-2019) with jobs. Had Brian Sabean stuck around as GM of the Giants and they didn't make the playoffs for 10 years after 2014, he'd have been out on his ass with 3 world series.
  9. it's funny because this thread was ratio'd from the jump.
  10. This board was constantly shitting on the hahn offseasons. I would actually say there were no Hahn true believers, just those pushing back against doomers. There were obviously people who thought Hahn was going to make the right move at multiple points (see hahn negotiation fanfiction circa 2018), but I think if you asked anyone to rank hahn against all GMs he would have never been higher than like 10th at any one time. Snippet of Hahn Negotiation fan fiction Machado: I would like $300 million Hahn: Go pound sand! nobody will ever pay you that! The padres stadium deal has hamstrung them forever! The Phillies are out! Mwahahahaha
  11. Likeability ranking of Rick Hahn teams from most likeable to least likeable, also with a likeability score 1. 2019 - Eloy rookie year, resurgent Giolito/Moncada. Change the game. Eloy homer vs. cubs. Dragged down by Yonder Alonso/Jon Jay (7.5, most likeable team) 2. 2021 - Apr-June likeability score with hamilton/goodwin stuff? 9/10. Post trade deadline? (5/10). Total (7.4/10) 3. 2014 - Abreu rookie year, sale enters stratosphere, abreu walk-off vs. tampa to send sox to first place was great night (6.8/10) 4. 2020 - not much they could do here, we couldn't go to games. They won though. Abreu vs. cubs series alone worth it. (6.5/10) 5. 2018 - inoffensive. Danny Palka. 6/10 6. 2017 - inoffensive but just bad 6/10 7. 2013 - Probably were just old and bad but looked so lethargic. 4/10 8. 2015 - One of the least enjoyable teams I've watched, but didn't have the insanity off the field yet. (3.5/10) 9. 2016 - Cut up jerseys. LaRoche on today show. trading Zach Duke for charlie tilson and his leg exploding. The game vs yankees where we were "back" and they gave up 100 runs. (2.8/10) 10. 2022 - (2/10) 11. 2023 - (1.5/10)
  12. Pretty sure the nhl stepped in to make sure Q didn’t get the NYR job so some of the punishment thus far is being blacklisted
  13. not sure the nhl hated Gretzky in the LA market, they wouldn't have minded Bedard in anaheim.
  14. I find the rigging stuff so dumb.
  15. Congrats @SoxAce
  16. Gotcha. Scott Powers really seems down on trying for Michkov because it would make the rebuild more painful..but it doesn't seem that long to me...I unno. Hawks games still seemed pretty expensive and still pretty crowded.
  17. between slots 2-5 which is the drop-off point where you feel much worse? 3?
  18. bmags replied to BamaDoc's topic in FutureSox Board
Veras just quietly productive. Wish I could trust him as a corner outfielder.
  19. how do you make a bad fire hahn thread
  20. I wonder what the record is for most runs scored with 2 outs in an inning
  21. Eh, I don’t think your first paragraph is true. Hahn had the benefit of trading into a good cycle. There are times when the top prospects are all on rebuilding, mid tier, ascending clubs, and there are times when they are on competitive, high budget clubs. When Hahn entered the rebuild, he did so into a market where the Red Sox, cubs, Yankees, Astros, Dodgers and nationals all were fighting for a championship, fighting the luxury tax, and had top ten farms. Hahn offering cheap, controlled, established talent was very fortunately timed. But notice he largely relied on prospect rankings for his returns, as he has no actual talent scouts. The top ten talent orgs now aren’t nearly as favorable. The dodgers are there, but are less prone to spend big for control. The rest are smaller market teams or not that ready. This sell off would require a shrewd talent evaluator to boost Sox out of. None are in sight.
  22. Hope you guys liked the Zack duke for Charlie Tilson trades because that’s what you’ll be seeing here.
  23. I think winning by lots of runs is much better than winning by one run. They should keep trying this.
  24. Not much of an improvement.
  25. We’ll good job joe
