Goins is 31 with a .618 career OPS. What you are seeing now is not real.

Right. But when it comes to filling holes with lesser players, this regime has shown they don't make the correct choices. If some of the young guys pan out, we will be back to where we were in 2015-2016. Looking for reinforcements. And these guys have shown the come up woefully short in those situations. Milwaukee, TB, even Oak don't need a decade of sucking and everything to go right to field a major league quality team. It seems the White Sox do.

All I know is we had a record number of "insiders" here last winter and were told by a couple that not only would the money be spent on one of Harper Machado, but don't be too surprised if they signed both. They ultimately signed for right at if not below projections and the Sox could not afford either. Their words not mine. To think they will be able to land a gut like Cole when teams like the Yankees won't be half assing their offers and have shown an ability to put together a team that can contend for years, is foolish. The money might be spent, but it won't be as much money as you think, and it won't be spent on the top of the line guys. It is one reason when they decided to fully rebuild, that rebuild should have included most of the baseball ops people.

Ricky's inspirational message on the line up card
Dick Allen replied to harkness99's topic in Pale Hose Talk
RH has already said if Coop ever leaves, and there was discussion about it a couple of years ago as he was having physical issues, Hassler will take his place. There is a lot more analytics in the White Sox overall approach than they are given credit. Pitching does seem to be a different bird. Maybe that will change as their injuries are starting to catch up with the rest of the league. Also, until a new owner takes over, I don’t think we will see a White Sox team whose manager is told what the line up will be, which substitutions are to be made, etc. I don’t necessarily think that is a bad thing. Even with RR. Although last night McCann gets on, he of course bunts to set it up for Engel and Sanchez, which was curious. I figured maybe he would hit for Engel, but then McCann gets thrown out trying to steal 3rd, Engel whiffs, and then leaves on a double switch. Bunt to set up your worst hitters, don’t pinch hit and take awful hitter out of the game anyway. -
Yes, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle, The only thing to hav some concern is Escobar has been in baseball for a long time. He knows a lot of players. I do not have any clue who his friends are, but if the Sox want to sign one someday, and the money is essentially the same , they may use this to pick another team.

I don’t think it was a con per se, but they weren’t going to pay the going rate IMO. I think they were very comfortable finishing in second. They didn’t he try for Harper, even though fake insider bucket of suck said they loved their position with him. The Nate Jones trade was very telling. The Rangers and Cubs are acquiring bonus money. The Sox would rather save $3 million than perhaps sign a player or players that may help them some day. The bottom line is all that really matters no matter how much White Sox owners have seen their net worth rise through the years.

One thing I do know if they pick 4th or 11th, most will be very unhappy with the pick, but will love the second rounder no matter what especially if it is lost due to a free angent signing.

The Sox are 1-10 their last 11 games vs. teams with losing records. Good news for the tank lovers.

According to gameday on espn.com, the Mets have decided to go with no LF to make the game a little more interesting. -
Sox Trade Nate Jones/INTL Slot to TEX for 2 Minor Leaguers

At the very least trade the bonus money for a legit prospect. -

One thing no one ever mentions about Wilder is in the middle of when he was ripping them off, he was given a promotion. He could not have made them look like bigger idiots. -
Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
Dick Allen replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You would have to know the offers. If they were Cordell/Tilson types, there is no move to make. -

Thats bullshit. They traded Nate Jones and acquired Salary Relief. -

Dick Allen replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Once Colome entered the game last night, I thought it was very doubtful he was going anywhere. If there was anything that piqued their interest, they would have held him out. So expecting a new great offer today is a bit doubtful. -

The money will be spent. Unfortanely, probably not on ballplayers. -

For a team that seems to have a real hard time with people thinking they are cheap, they sure do some curious things. -

As Pax has said with another franchise with very similar ownership, cash considerations gains you capital with the higher ups. If they weren't going to spend it, they did the right thing. My problem is why didn't they put themselves in a position to spend it? -

Dick Allen replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Apparently they didn't have enough money to sign him. Wouldn't it be nice if the White Sox took on a Nate Jones contract and picked up some international funds for doing so to get a #3 prospect? -

Dick Allen replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Obviously the Rangers plan to spend it on something. That's the dissappointment. I get they save $3 million, and they weren't spending any more, but the question I have is when you have a head start with this class, and have one of the biggest pools to use, why are you short? -

Sox Trade Nate Jones/INTL Slot to TEX for 2 Minor Leaguers
Dick Allen replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The team is in a rebuild and was in a penalty box for 2 years. One of the rewards for losing is more international money to spend, plus they should have been working on this for a couple of years. It's dissappointing they actually had $1 million they didn't spend. -

I wonder why the Sox, in the 3rd year of a 5 year rebuild, couldn't spend the $1 million in international bonus money. I guess getting Jones off the books is like GarPax selling 2nd round picks. Gives them capital when JR sees the profit/loss for the year. -
I think his average is worse than Palka's, but all it takes is one.

I give Jason Kinander some credit. He has swung and missed more than Adam Dunn, but he keeps on swinging.
