  1. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 11:25 PM) I think they're the type of guys that can get you into the playoffs, but not win you a championship. That's most guys.
  2. Considering how much money the Sox paid Peavy over 3 1/2 seasons while getting about 1 1/2 years of valuable production, I understand the sentiment to see him leave. I don't see the chairman paying up for a 31 year old pitcher who has had health issues. Considering we control Floyd for one season, I predict we stay with him and the lefties.
  3. 1 -- Heard Farmer and DJ sign off for the season. Farmer called DJ his best friend in life, outside of his family. DJ agreed. Those two are going to stay together. 2. -- stone has to be weary of Hawk's insufferable ego. That's too bad because Stone has insights into the game. Hawk just has a string of about 20-to-25 phrases. And he's starting to yell STRETCH on balls that are 15 feet from the wall. Cataract surgery, anyone? 3 -- Wimpy is just as gimmicky as Hawk. 4 -- You could never give Ozzie a live mic -- and who understands 70 percent of what he says, anyway?
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 02:10 AM) Cliche, cliche, cliche. What makes a pitcher a great competitor? Cause they act mad when they get taken out of a game? It's funny cause if you asked me who showed the most guts of any of the Sox starters this year, it might have been Gavin returning from his elbow issues without any rehab when he knows a major injury would kill him financially after this year. nailed it. Or Sale demanding to start when they wanted to make him a relief pitcher and baby him. Peavy lots of hat, little cattle
  5. Draft choice mania!!! Dodgers should finish ahead of us now and Milwaukee can still catch us. Yes!
  6. playing extra when you're eliminated has to be as exciting to these guys as extras during spring training.
  7. Jake, we'll never forget you and all the post-season fun we had.
  8. excellent information, balm for the disappointment of the last two weeks. maybe the sox can lose the next two -- and improve draft position for 2013.
  9. it appears that a plane ticket to Minnesota was not offered to Mr. Morel. if the roster is accurate on whitesox.com, the sox are currently carrying 18 pitchers and 17 position players on the big club. the only guys on the 40-man roster who are not with the team (excluding guys on the DL) are: Anthony Carter Simon Castro Charlie Leesman Nestor Molina and Mr. Morel.
  10. Great Falls eliminated. Winston-Salem tied 1-1 in best of five in Carolina League finals. Charlotte starts International League finals (best of five) at Pawtucket Tuesday.
  11. haven't seen a reason/excuse from Danks for missing that ball. has he explained it -- other than gag reflex?
  12. attendance always slides during IL playoffs. Not part of the season package. school back in session. friday night is high school football night. tough sell.
  13. Yep, Sox would have to win a best of seven against Yankees (Scranton-WB) or Red Sox (Pawtucket) to win International League title.
  14. 1. here. 2. MILB 3. Baseball America 4. live in an International League city. researching the minor league guys makes the winter go by quicker. As long as you forget the countless hours you were certain Joe Borchard, Jeremy Reed, Jason Dellaero, Scott Ruffcorn and Kevin Bell (among others) were the Next Great Things.
  15. in Hector we trust. And the good news is that Lew Ford isn't playing for the Twins.
  16. Hopefully Mitchell will play some winter ball. He needs more developmental time, considering he played football at LSU and that he missed an entire season with that ankle injury. I still have a difficult time projecting him as a big-league regular because of his high, high, high strikeout rate. hope he proves me wrong.
  17. Haven't Mitchell and Phegley already played in it? Dont think you can do it more than once.
  18. Why would the Sox unload his contract? It's not that onerous. can't imagine they would entrust shortstop to a 20-year-old with less than two full months of experience above Hi-A ball. Nope.
  19. You're on the clock, Gavin Floyd. But have that left arm loose, just in case, Mr. Santiago.
  20. Derek Jeter, for the record, hit four HRs in 244 PAs in rookie ball at 18. At 19, he hit 5 in nearly 600 plate appearances in the Sally League, low A. At 20, he hit 5 in 617 plate appearance in high A, AA and AAA. At 21, he hit 2 in 558 plate appearances in Columbus before finishing the season in New York that is 16 HRs in more than 2,000 minor league plate appearances.
  21. How did they score the last play? Single by PK?
  22. Eric Grabe, second baseman, was the only White Sox player named to the Appalachian League all-star team. Doesn't say it team was picked by managers, players or media. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=2...;vkey=news_milb Grabe is old for short-season rookie ball -- 23. Hitting .357 with 17 extra base hits in 140 at bats. Second in BA and on-base percentage. No speed. Looks like marginal prospect. But he's an all-star.
  23. Sanchez fails to hit safely in first AAA at bat. He is human.
  24. Who's Ozzie Jr.?
  25. 1. Thompson 2. Hawkins 3. Johnson 4. Walker 5. Rienzo 6. Barnum 7. Sanchez 8. Phegley 9. Petricka 10. DeMichele Bust -- Mitchell never going to hit well enough.
