  1. Is Abreu not as good as he used to be? Yes. Is he still an above average MLB hitter? Yes. Should he be the guy everyone is worried about upgrading over positions like C, DH, CF, etc? No. With that being said, I wouldn't be opposed to dealing him. I don't see him aging well. But they'd have to get a worthwhile return or it's pointless.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Yep. Called him a potential star and said he'd be definite 1st round pick in upcoming draft if eligible. That's ok...we got Big Game James for him.
  3. QUOTE (striker @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) With the stars and scrubs roster, limited payroll flexibility and nothing coming up through the minors of value, trading one or more of our stars is the only way to add significant value and depth. Plus, could you imagine how hosed this franchise would be if we lost either Sale or Quintana. Look at the negative impact Abreu's slump had on the entire team offensively simply because we lack depth. I'd be open to dealing Sale, Abreu, Eaton and or Robertson. Give me one or two major league or major league ready players, and a couple prospects. Plus I can add one or two players with the money I just traded away. Imagine if we did a total rebuild. The talent Sale, Quintana, Eaton, Abreu and Robertson would bring back would be huge. Robertson would be a pure salary dump. The Sox would be lucky to get 2 lottery ticket prospects for him, IMO.
  4. I don't understand why some non-Sox fans think that trading for Quintana would be much easier than trading for Sale. To me, Q is more consistent and controlled for an extra year. I still think Sale would get a better return, but Q wouldn't be that far behind. He's VERY undervalued.
  5. LA has to go to Kershaw tomorrow. They have to. It's an automatic loss if Maeda pitches.
  6. Kaplan is the biggest joke in Chicago sports media. He's literally a fan that has his own show.
  7. I'd love to see their dumb fans panic if they lose again tonight. If they do lose against Urias, it's over for them IMO. They can't beat Kershaw normally, but they have absolutely no chance if half their offense is ice cold.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) anthony fenech ‏@anthonyfenech 1h1 hour ago Avila's 48 minutes, paraphrased: Tigers will try to get younger and leaner in payroll and it's his hope they will compete in 2017. lol. Good luck with that.
  9. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 12:11 PM) It's Twitter, and people act like a team account is run by the GM, coaches and owner. Twitter should be a place where fans can communicate with the team, and be an outlet for you. Not just a promotional tool to push tickets and updates. I guess I just expect them to act a certain way since no other team does what they do in regards to subtle trolling. They can talk s*** now, because they won't be able to in a couple days.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) I hate it when people have fun at their jobs. There's a big difference between "having fun" and "being a total ass to everyone", IMO. I don't mind an occasional roast but they do it so often for a professional team.
  11. The Cubs Twitter account is so unprofessional. They take digs at other teams/players that are completely unnecessary.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 07:08 AM) A deal has to at least include one of Benintendi/JBJ (Betts I'd imagine is untouchable), one of Moncada/Devers and Eduardo Rodriguez. And then likely 2 of Kopech, Johnson and Groome. I'd be happy with Benintendi/Moncada/Rodriguez/Kopech/Groome but I'd think the Red Sox wouldn't do that.
  13. I'm heartbroken. McEwing was my favorite 3rd base coach since Jeff Cox.
  14. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) Boston definitely needs another arm or two in the bullpen. But there top bullpen need is a lefty since they only have one They have 3 (Ross, Abad, and Scott), but I'd happily give them Dan Jennings if they're willing to overpay for him.
  15. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) A little out of order so I apologize. It is October 7, 2005, the Sox are in Boston and Orlando Hernandez throws perhaps the single most significant inning in Sox post season history as he gets out of a bases loaded, no out jam to help preserve the Sox lead. They'd win the game, sweep the Red Sox in the A.L.D.S. and move on to face the Angels. We've got the audio AND video. Chris berman is the announcer. Courtesy: ESPN2. http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/10/t...es-masterpiece/ Mark I get goosebumps watching/listening to this. Every single time.
  16. I drive a 2000 Acura Integra with 175,000+ miles on it. Those cars last forever. It's definitely a good first car for me.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) I agree with you. And it's nutty that people think that's not enough. None of those guys are established. It's hard to trade the second best left handed pitcher on the planet who's on an incredibly cost effective deal and a serviceable outfielder for unknowns.
  18. Hendricks has been a revelation but Arrieta and Lester ain't getting any younger or cheaper. They'll need more pitching.
  19. Was the '03 team really that good? I didn't follow baseball then.
  20. I liked Jerry. He wasn't very good, but still. Wish him the best in his future endeavors.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) Sale would look reeeeeaaaaalllll good in a Cubbie uniform. Perfect for a back-to-back championship run after they win the whole thing this year!! Ok...then they'd have to give up Schwarber, Baez, Contreras, Almora, and Jimenez just to get the Sox interested.
  22. I'm thinking about last night. The Giants obviously don't have a closer, so why didn't they go to Samardzija in the 9th? Yes, I know he got lit up in Game 2, but his stuff is most likely much better in 1 inning at a time scenarios and he wasn't going to pitch in Game 5 either. All I know is that a revolving door of s***ty relievers isn't going to get it done against the Cubs. I bet the Giants wish they had traded for a closer.
  23. The Cubs definitely aren't as good as people thought they would be. I assumed they'd throttle the Giants, and that didn't happen. I think they are definitely vulnerable if they have to go up against LA or Toronto.
  24. I really don't understand the JBJ love. Give me Benintendi instead.
  25. Jordan Howard = Matt Forte 2.0
