  1. What an absolute dumpster fire. My god. This thread is horrible. Longtime members and contributors get banned for deleting posts but some of these people get to post here? Woof. There needs to be a baseline entrance exam or something because what was once a destination for intelligent banter about my favorite baseball team has turned into a chorus of nonsense from the lowest denominator of fans.

  2. I think it's fair to assume that none of our players in single-A will improve at all.

  3. This positional logjam stuff always - ALWAYS - works itself out. There’s no point in moving anyone for anyone when nobody is forcing anybody. It’s ridiculous to talk about anyone on the White Sox blocking anyone else at this point. When we have two dudes raking at the same position in the Majors, then the time to worry about it. Let’s try to even get there first. If that happens, and no one wants to move, then somebody gets traded for something useful. Its gonna be fine.

  4. The year 2018 - and I do not care if it is a rebuild. They will set a record for the most strikeouts ever, they do not walk, they do not hit, they do not field, the do not pitch, and renteria said in an article the other day he believes all the same coaches will be back next year, only our Whitesox would not make changes. I am sorry as some have said in the past if you are so unhappy watching them then stay away, which I will not, is it asking to much for them to actually look like they have played this game sometime in there past, they are a total embarrassment. Thank you all for your time.

  5. I've been pretty rational the majority of my time at Soxtalk. I went on a 2 month reactionary streak and I won't do it again. Frustration got the best of me. I needed to vent to someone, and I wanted to do it with fellow Sox fans. I didn't expect to get attacked like this for it. I used to post very rarely and keep quiet unless I had a well thought out, evidence based post. I changed that this year and I regret it. I'm going to post more often than in years past, but I'm going to damn well do my research again before posting gut feelings. WTF is the point of having this board if everything has to be all business all the time? People aren't allowed to get frustrated and vent? It isn't like I've been overly negative, in fact I've complained about that. As long as people don't spam threads and the board with b****ing about each and every minutia, then who cares? People should be allowed to show their frustration for a month or two without being attacked, ridiculed, tarred and feathered. I got so frustrated between the Sox and Bears that I questioned why I even cared about sports. Then I realized how much I enjoy them, even when times are tough. I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong and I have to follow my own advice about jumping to conclusions. I guess it took getting roasted in the NFL thread to realize how reactionary I've been over the last 2 months. I have to remember this guy before posting. I have him on saved attachments for a reason. Some of the trolls like WBWSF and Tom Longo can GTFO, but I don't think I've stooped to their level. If you guys think I have, then accept my apology. My posts about the Sox skipping town is a legitimate concern of mine and I think folks are naive to assume it will never happen. Most of the problem lies with ownership's philosophy that ignoring the Cubs existence is the best option, rather than taking them head on in trying to win the hearts of new fans. 3/5 seasons of 95+ losses and 25 years of incompetence at the most important position in sports can get the best of anyone. Peace, Parkman

  11. To sum up your post, you dont care Kavanaugh lied under oath. Because your so angry that stories came out late and so Republicans should give out a lifetime appointment to an unqualified person to teach Democrats a lesson. So how should Deomcrats treat Republicans over Merrick Garland? He by all accounts was a highly qualified judge who didnt break the law or lie under oath. Arguably more respected than Kavanaugh... Republicans didnt even give him a vote. So how angry are you about Republicans? I assume much more angry because Kavanaugh at least got a vote even though he likely committed a felony. Garland got nothing. Oh yeah you just care about your team, you dont care about a potential felon being a Supreme Court justice. /shrugs Thats why no one takes your argument seriously.

  13. They have because everyone who Ford places at that party doesn't remember it happening and doesn't remember Ford and Kavanaugh ever meeting. That aligns exactly with what Kavanaugh has said and runs in stark contrast of Fords story. Ford hasn't established herself as a victim ideally her allegation of abuse would substantiated first before moving onto Kavanaugh but as of yet it hasn't by anyone (in fact it's been refuted by everyone she mentions as being there). The one person who she claims to have told (which is pretty suspect in itself considering the date of 2012 which would be 30 years after the assault) is pretty suspect at this point considering what we have found out from the realclearpolitics investigation piece. Lets just follow what the media reported. First we were told she named Kavanaugh to her therapist. Then we were told she didn't name Kavanaugh to her therapist but described her attack where she mentioned he was judge. Then we were told this therapist was infact a marriage counselor. Now we find the therapist is a friend and her entire story built around having to see the therapist is very, very suspect and the therapist is a former tenant of her home. I don't believe in such coincidences. This leak was timed to cause maximum damage to the Republicans and prevent them choosing another nominee. If her friends were aware of the letter then they would have leaked the information immediately not timed it up in such a way. It came from the democrats. Also lets just follow the logic of her story she claims at the time of the assault she told noone. Not her best friend. Not her family. Not her boyfriends past or present. Noone she held it for 30 years until she told her marriage counselor in 2012 but now that he is a nominee for a supreme court she spilled the beans to "beach friends" and actively sought their advice? Contacted the media? It's strange. It's also strange if she trusted her "beach friends" with this information now why not earlier? Why is the only people she told was allegedly her husband and her therapist in 2012? If Ford made the Republicans aware of her allegations he would have never been nominated. He might have been pulled early even after his nomination. in a way that would have been a shame and made this situation that is unfair to Kavanaugh even more so. Though he'd probably choose that over what him and his family has had to go through. Including a recent cartoonist who even had the audacity to attack his daughter. Now? It's too late to nominate anyone else. You say a middle finger I say showing some spine and finally taking a stand against the democrats spurious smears of course they were forced to but still it's about damn time.

  14. I think he is really good when he doesn’t think he is on stage at Zanies and every line needs to be gold. When he does the games and lets the one liners come naturally, it’s a better broadcast.

  15. Hey I get it hot takes are your thing but please let them make some sort of sense. He's a trainer they have a training staff. They have strength and conditioning coaches. I don't even see how you can blame a trainer if some gets hit by a pitch or slides into a base and breaks a hand or ankle. Some of these guys are unique physical specimens with extraordinary muscle mass much of the time built through weight training which might not take into account the true hereditary nature of what their body can tolerate. Pitching in and of itself is an unnatural motion for a human being. Its far more natural to throw underhanded. You can't prevent pitching injuries when just the act of pitching is against the natural flow of body movement. Maybe if you ever took the time to say which injuries you think that could have been prevented you might make some sense but you don't dare do that since ptatc might shoot you down. If you are not a medical professional throwing baseless accusations around is not just a hot take its an idiotic take.

  16. Narvaez was a nice surprise, but he is hardly a game changer and can you play him regularly with his defensive lapses? Other than that and Palka hitting homers, has anyone offensively looked like they are heading in the right direction? So if they think they have guys with talent and can improve, obviously they aren’t being helped by what’s in place.

  17. The fact they hired a female prosecutor who handled Ford with kid gloves rather then question Ford themselves should tell you all you need to know. They are terrified of being seen as not compassionate. After the hearing they all said they found Ford credible and felt something happened to her despite gaping holes in her story and memory even Graham dances around it. In fact the harshest criticism to come on Ford from the people present hasn't been from Republicans it came from the career prosecutor of sexoffenders who highlighted the holes in her testimony and said based on the testimony there was no case against Kavanaugh.

  19. And he's so obviously roided out of his mind that it's making Placido Polanco have flashbacks. Altuve is such an outlier that I wouldn't compare anybody to him. @Eminor3rd hit the nail on the head. It's foolish to worry about positions this early. I will say Moncada has an infinitely higher ceiling than Madrigal, but it's going to be much tougher to reach it.

  20. I do nothing that everyone else in this thread doesn't also do. You just happen to disagree with me and like to hold me to a different standard as everyone else. I'm used to it by now, but it's still funny to see you act like a tweenage troll trying to derail things and get a rise out of me while we're having an actual discussion, instead of acting like the ~40 year old man you are and contributing in any meaningful way.

  21. And Madrigal hit 40% fewer extra base hits than that pace by Sanchez. If you turned those strikeouts into normal contact at a reasonable rate, that would push Madrigal up to a .280 average or so and a low .700s OPS. That’s a decent big league player, but it already requires saying “assume a 40% increase in Madrigals power numbers”. he may very well get there but we need to stop doing the White Sox thing and saying he’ll be the starting 2b in 2020 and we need to clear Moncada out until we actually see some semblance of that happen. So let’s give him the time to do it before we race him up as the next savior.

  24. Yolmer Sanchez hit 8 HR, 34 2b, and was tied for 2nd in the league in 3b.

  25. I still can't believe how obsessed people are with Nick Madrigal's future HR totals. We all decry how the game has devolved into the three true outcomes obsession and then get a gift of a player who hits for average, plays Gold Glove defense, runs well, doesn't strike out and brings positive intangibles as a bonus. Let's enjoy it. It's too simplistic to say "it doesn't matter" if he hits HRs, because obviously if he does it would catapult him into a different stratosphere. But it's not necessary and shouldn't be a focus in any way, shape or form.

  26. I remember laughing at Theo because he just kept acquiring middle infield prospects. Like you said, those things always work themselves out.

  28. Watching the playoff game between Dodgers and Rockies. Buehler pitching lights out for LA. Geez, he looks great. Could not help but notice that he was drafted in in first round by Dodgers at number 24 in 2015. Same year we picked Carson Fulmer at number 8. Both were teammates at Vanderbilt that year. How could Sox be so wrong?
    1 point
  29. Easy. Put Madrigal at catcher.

  30. If he wasn't such a racist pos, I'd advocate Hahn giving up a couple of top prospects for him and have him start. Hell, I still might.. though Brewers probably wouldn't do it since they're competing. I honestly think he'd be as close to Chris Sale as you can get (although nobody is ever gonna be Sale).

  31. Releasing controllable and cheap players like Covey, Fulmer, Ruiz, Vieria, Cordell, Leury, Tilson, and Bummer makes absolutely zero sense and stating otherwise exhibits a rather stark lack of understanding of the game and is just meatball talk. Gomez, Gonzalez, Santiago, Scahill, Shields, and LaMarre are all very likely gone. As is whoever Castro is, because we don't have a Castro on the 40 man. Jones will be retained because its cheaper to retain him than buy him out. By the way - Merkin made a post on twitter about Nate's option and appeared not to know this. Pretty embarrassing. Farquhar is a unique situation and I hope the Sox bring him back on a minors deal. Minaya and Tilson are probably DFA'd to make 40 man room, but Minaya was pretty decent at times this year so may be retained. I'd non-tender Avi, but I could see it going both ways. Same thing for Leury, but I'd keep Leury around.

  32. Respectfully, Yolmer Sanchez, Adam Engel and Kevan Smith are average to below average players. If those are the players were touting as draft success, it's not very good. TA has been a nice player and a good pick but the FO should get it right more often than not if we want the type of success we're hoping for. So not all bad, but my point is there needs to be much more improvement.

  33. I don't think there is any way to evaluate the Sox drafting and development and call it a success.

  34. The team blew when they "were going for it". Having the same people run the rebuild that ran that being questioned is legitimate. If this entire rebuild is dependent on Michael Kopech, a guy who was throwing a lighter baseball 110 MPH in the offseason a year and a half ago, being healthy, it needs a new architect. Maybe not the JR is cheap he is raking in all this money argument, but there is a legit question as to how this team is being run, from the front office to the coaching staff.

  35. A DH platoon seems like a waste of resources with as limited as bench sizes are in 2018.

  36. Except that that didn't exactly work out swimmingly. Rodon is okay but not much more. The Astros passed on him and ended up with Bregman a year later.
