- Derek Shomon and Ryan Fuller's Approach to Hitting
5 IP, 9 K. Maybe you were looking at the Guardians team total of 13 K? But still, you’re right that the dude is an absolute monster and a problem. He’s always had massive talent but struggled with inconsistency. Sure seems like he’s put it all together.- Derek Shomon and Ryan Fuller's Approach to Hitting
We've already lived through the more contact approach in 2021 and 2022. It didn't work for us. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the offensive approach we have as a team, people are just overreacting to a historically bad 3 game sample. There's also not much coaching and approach can do when you have 2 guys who just swing and miss a lot in Colson and Mune. That's more or less a talent issue. Coaching can help them mitigate that here or there, but they can't make contact for them.- Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
I'm hyped for Bonemer but he strikes out a ton, I believe his K rate spiked in AA too, I believe it was over 25%.- 2027 Rotation
Yes, My answer is yes. I think if you always took surplus value to surplus value- I think prospects will win out in most trades. I think trading is always optimizing windows for a team like the White Sox. However, Right Handed power is the most valuable asset in baseball. Bonemer could be monster. Maybe he leads up to 2-3 world series appearances over the next decade. I like to compare this years White Sox to last years Bears. I had little expectation going in but it was exceeded and the final outcome however disappointing was a great ride. Additionally, My expectations for next year have increased. I want a division title and at least a trip to the ALCS.- Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
All Getz knew was the Royals... And they were the best franchise in baseball for 2-3 years. They made it to 2 WS in a row...and were the last mid to small market team to win, at least according to MLB. They also had great drafts and winning minor league teams leading into that. So it's fair to say he took 2 of the 5 most important front office members with him, and consulted with Dayton Moore and Yost as well. However most baseball fans treat the Royals as a "loser organization" ... and that was their rep for 30+ years after Brett. There was also a time we joked about recycling old Royals players like Mark Teahen or the 3B who wiped out TA or coaches that never went away like Buddy Bell. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Getz hasn't reinvented baseball. He's simply trying to apply those 2014-15 Royals' lessons but has the complete opposite team in terms of personnel...as GRF is a homer friendly park and less reliant on OF defense/speed/base running. He built a team around its bullpen (see KC having the best pen in history) ... but offensive contact ability, fundamentals/execution, speed, aggressive baserunning, manufacturing runs...not exactly what the Sox are good at it. Not at all. And now he's stuck in between because Mune and Colson don't fit that model he's trying to build, only Vargas does. (Remember, Mune just fell into Boyer's lap, was never a part of the plan until 29 teams rejected him first.) But somewhere along the way those players finally developed an identity and bonded together as one largely unselfish unit due to Venable's calm guidance and honestly overachieved. So in the end Getz is neither a miracle worker nor the worst GM...but it all doesn't matter unless JR is willing to reinvest in the team again like 2019-2021.- Derek Shomon and Ryan Fuller's Approach to Hitting
also, Gavin Williams will win the AL Cy Young next year. did you see that game vs TB? 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 13 K, that's 23 K's extrapolated over 9.0 IP (probably around 17-18 given hitters have more success the more times through the order, still ridiculous)- The Official Scoreboard watching thread
And the Yankees won two vs the BoSox before getting swept by TB- Derek Shomon and Ryan Fuller's Approach to Hitting
Idk if I'm ready to give them the excuse that they performed awfully because "they kept trying to hit homers", maybe I thought that early on but watching those at bats again, they just looked completely incapable of hitting high velocity so then I went and listened to SoxMachine's interview on Foul Territory and found out that the Sox are one of the worst FB hitting teams in baseball when the velo is 96+ (they rank 30 of 30 in K% on 96+ FB, and 30 of 30 in batting avg vs 96+, at .205) and that validates my current belief: they can't hit good fastballs, the location doesn't even matter all that much. whether it's approach related, or their game prep, only the Sox know that- Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
I agree. But it's just my impression that they tend to retain their personnel. Which may also be a key.- Schriffen: "It's been an amazing three years". Implies that them calling Sox games together is over. Could Stone be on his way out?
Sounds like my wife.- “The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
Couldn't have been more wrong about TB Miami and Orlando, at least so far...- Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
Personally I'd hire every up and coming baseball person I could from organizations like the Rays, Brewers, Guardians, Braves. Those franchises have figured out how to win and be very competitive on a yearly basis it seems.- “The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
He didn't leave the scene though he remained as part of the front office according to the Sox media guides, now he did step back and stop speaking for the organization to the media.Today

I remember when JR and Einhorn bought the White Sox. Einhorn said numerous times that the White Sox were really owned by the City of Chicago and White Sox fans. He said he was just the placeholder for the team. Einhorn was the one who wanted to move the team to Florida. He wanted out of here. He said Florida was the greatest opportunity for MLB since the Dodgers moved to the west coast. After the White Sox agreed to stay in Chicago Einhorn sold most of his White Sox shares to JR and he left the scene.- “The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
When did we get to the point in this country where we all feel we are able to just laundry list our demands for other people to do? If we had a functioning federal government, you know, representing the people, this the type of thing they should be doing. But that is a whataboutism for another day.- “The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
It's literally mentioned in the Crain's article. Right now, the 80-acre Rate Field site sits unused 280 days a year. So, are you suggesting that Amtrak should move out so that the 14th St site be filled entirely with affordable housing while the Sox remain at Rate Field and those parking lots sit empty all but 81 days a year? Or should Amtrak stay put and the Sox should build a stadium district (which most definitely will NOT be affordable housing) at Rate Field? I guess I'm not following what your desired outcome is for getting more housing built - which Chicago definitely needs - by Ishbia. “If the White Sox decided to leave — that’s a big if, not for sure — how many would love to have roughly 80 acres available for a public conversation about what to make it? Whether it’s residential homes, whether it’s a new sports facility, whether it’s a potential pro sports franchise or a football team, soccer team, or something else. I think the important part of the conversation is what’s next?” Asked if he has been approached by others about redeveloping Rate Field and its surroundings, Ishbia said “a lot of residential developers” have reached out.- 2027 Rotation
Selling low = netting a top of the rotation arm? Edit: I don't think you get that great of an arm dealing both right now personally. If you could get a TOR with 3+ years of control, do it.- Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
Hiring people who have previously worked for other MLB teams is a losing, nepotistic strategy. Everyone knows that teams like the Guardians and Rays are successful because they look outside of baseball and hire Starbucks baristas and kids with a lemonade stand. What is Getz thinking??- 2027 Rotation
Selling low on both Schultz and Carlson? That's not how you leverage 2 of your remaining top five assets after Miguel Vargas. Why not just spend $$$$?- Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
I don't know. I'm not married to the team. I root for them. I got tired of being mad all year, so I stopped paying attention to the Bears. I don't hang around on Bears' chat boards telling everyone how disappointed I am in the McCaskeys or whatnot.- “The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
Why do you think mlb was granted an anti trust exemption? Because it's a critical aspect of the city's identity, making it "major league" or not. Should the Cubs just take over the entire city? And why wasn't the 78 or current site developed for housing if that was more important than a mere baseball team? Unless you want an authoritarian interventionist government...you're not going to be able to force entrepreneurs to build what you consider to be the greatest good for the greatest number of people. That's just not how capitalism works.- 2027 Rotation
What kind of contract do you think it would take to get Shota to the South Side? Not the sexiest of signings and he clearly shouldn’t be viewed as an ace that will take us over top, but would be a nice stabilizing presence in the middle of the rotation. (Yes, the HR’s are scary) Trade for TOR arm (Schultz + Carlson headline) Burke Shota Castillo Thorpe/Martin/Sandlin- 2027 Offense
How many eminently affordable 25 or 26 year old above average fielding SS's in mlb history with 30+ homers and Colson's rbi numbers have been sent to the minors or at least not traded to get something else of value in return? I thought so...crickets. And how can you be sure his back wasn't compromised...just like Ohtani's knee biceps shoulder the last two months? Colson Montgomery despite his struggles was still 16th out of 33 SS’s. Considering his low salary cost, that's still a huge win for a low payroll team. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?stats=bat&lg=all&type=8&season=2026&month=0&season1=2026&ind=0&pos=ss&qual=350&pagenum=2&pageitems=30 2.8 fWAR would cost $21-25 million in the FA market. Money the Sox aren't able to spend since they need to focus on pitching. Move Meidroth to SS and Antonacci, you downgrade two important infield positions to potentially improve one of the least important corner spots.- 2027 Offense
There're these 2 really cool things called; Free Agency & The Trade Market, you should check them out. OMG! If Colston can't learn to hit, particularly to the opposite field, he will NOT be in the majors; traded or not. His RISP & late game performances were also among the worst in baseball along with his strikeouts. It's amazing how you don't understand that bad hitters don't stay in the majors. I'm done here. - Derek Shomon and Ryan Fuller's Approach to Hitting
