What was the purpose of putting a pinch runner for Quero if you were not going to try to steal second and stay out of the double play, which, by the way, did happen. Vaughn should have been given the take sign to allow for the steal. With a runner on third, there’s a good chance the A’s wouldn’t even throw through!3 points

In all seriousness Vargas' defensive improvement at third this year has been a very pleasant surprise3 points

I don't need your help to understand anything. If it's Sox related you hate on it . I cheer for the team to win despite how bad I know they are. You give me a laugh emoji for doing so. That's all I need to understand your style of fandom.3 points

As the self appointed best fan of this team, It’s quite clear you hold yourself as the best fan of this team on the site, because of your constant attendance of the games. You show no actual ability to be critical of the team, only of other fans of the team who are critical of the team. My attendance dropped when they started to suck, and will continue until they show an actual commitment to winning. I’m a firm believer in “a fool and his money are soon parted” and clearly you like to part with your money frequently in front of terrible entertainment. I certainly wouldn’t do that, but I’m not the one that shows up to this site and grandstands as the best fan and talks down to everyone who has a different opinion and calls them liars or cubs fans when they disagree. No I would never stoop to a childish insult like that, I will just tell you that you suck right to your face 😀 super happy you keep handing Jerry your dollars, bud. It’s incredibly kind of you. I’m sure he holds you in high esteem when you talk s%*# about your next owner3 points

Nah, Kyyle is the just right amount of not needing to get lectured by Jerry’s superfanboy about what he should and shouldn't think based on your hypocritical interpretations of Jerry’s actions vs everyone else's. Quit projecting your anger at those who don't fall into your line, as their anger. This is your anger and your problem, and literally no one else's.3 points

Maybe for Jerry? Looks like that is the 4th highest salary for the Sox this year.3 points

It's 100 to pick a rule 5 and 50 to return him. So that's $150K By paying $25K the Cubs cost is $75K thus saving them $75K . Sox get a rule 5 for $25K but will cost $50 to return him or $75K total. So by paying the Cubs $25K they are basically splitting the cost of him being returned but if the Sox keep him they're paying only 25% of the cost to draft a Rule 5 guy.2 points

Charlotte game went to the 12th, both teams with position players on the mound. Dominic Fletcher gets the save for a 13-12 Knights win.2 points

I know this team has very little talent, is in no way a good team or anything, and guys like Palacios aren't part of the plan going forward. But the continual losing gets old and winning is more fun than losing2 points

I don't understand the fascination with Palacios. I don't think his presence on this roster, lineup and leadoff spot exposes some deep incompetence in Venable or Getz, but he's not a good defender, and outside of a little pop, has no real offensive upside. Dominic Fletcher could most probably give you more than Palacios does, here. Fletcher is hitting, and is a better fielder. Fletcher also has an option left in case they want to shuttle him back to AAA when Tauchman returns. Maybe they just want Fletcher to be playing out of his head in order to get back on the 40-man. Seems like an easy way to get just a little more offense and a lot more defense into the lineup.2 points

But the fact remains that they are televising three sub .500 teams. Where is the market for that? I think you are sorely mistaken about the kind of money Comcast will earn signing a deal with Jerry and the Wirtz family. Their teams all suck and they are both pretty terrible owners. Also, Elko is a few months younger than Vaughn. He isn’t some great prospect. These three teams are perfect for free OTA viewing. But I have no idea why Comcast would even want to pay up to televise this losing crap if they aren’t making money from it.2 points

Alright now dump Amaya for Elko. Pretty sure workman can at least match a .229 OPS at SS. Let AV play first once a week and DH against lefties2 points

I'd bring up him and Elko Tuesday and drop Amaya and Palacios. Then probably dump Vaughn once Meidroth is back.1 point

Who even knows when Rojas will be back. I remember when he got hurt some were saying it would only be a few days or a week. It's been at least a month now. That must have been a bad fractured toe.1 point

Last year, it was something in the vicinity of $30 million basically lit on fire for veterans who didn't finish the season with the team, roughly 40% of them being released or injured.1 point

I'm more upset about 2011. Opening day Dunn hit a home run and had a big game and my dad was pretty happy and we were looking forward to a fun season. He died the next day. I guess I'm glad he saw the high point. They were still in it late in the season. I'm not sure Ozzie didn't throw the season. I remember him pinch hitting Dunn, a guy batting like .160, in an important game against the Tigers. Everyone knew having the bat boy pinch hit would have been a better option. Dunn whiffed on three pitches. (To his credit he didn't quit and had a decent rebound season in 2012 and was even an all star.)1 point

I'm actually more upset how that 2010 season played out...looking back on it now. We took for granted being in division races pretty much every 2 out of 3 seasons or so.1 point

I'll give Venable this: he looks like he's engaged in the game and with the players when he's in the dugout. Haven't seen that much other than with Rickie for a minute.1 point

Not a great sign for Colson. If the Sox expected him up any time soon, they probably wouldn’t be acquiring a player in the same essential bucket — big left side defender with K issues.1 point

Yes. Says Fangraphs: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/chicago-cubs-top-37-prospects/ 20. Gage Workman, 3B Video Drafted: 4th Round, 2020 from Arizona State (DET) Age 25.3 Height 6′ 4″ Weight 220 Bat / Thr S / R FV 40 Tool Grades (Present/Future) Hit Raw Power Game Power Run Fielding Throw 20/20 50/55 30/40 55/55 60/70 70 Relegated to third base because some of his college teammates were really great shortstop defenders, Workman has successfully moved up the defensive spectrum as a pro; he is now an above-average shortstop defender and a 70-grade glove at third. Workman’s footwork and actions are incredible for a player his size. At a long-torso’d 6-foot-4, he has remarkable body control and an impact arm. There are old scouting tropes about big-framed hitters and switch-hitters tending to develop late. Workman was both. He struggled to make contact for his whole career and struck out 38% of the time at Double-A in 2023, a terrifying rate. In 2024, at age 25, Workman made real progress in this area. He ditched hitting from the right side and his 27.5% K% was the lowest since he was at Low-A; he hit a BABIP-aided .280/.366/.476 with 18 home runs back at Erie. He has above-average raw power but is still whiffing a ton, especially against breaking stuff, and he’ll likely continue to strike out so much that it limits his big league role. But with the Cubs corner infield situation currently up in the air, he has an opportunity to play such great defense that he wins the job at the hot corner coming out of camp. His long-term role is as a strikeout prone utility infielder.1 point

Also out of sync/time. If they did this the same time that the cubs did the Marquee deal they would probably be in much better shape, but instead they doubled down on what they were doing and made NBCSports all theirs at the time and didn’t anticipate anything in the current climate until it was too late.1 point

There's plenty to blame on both sides here but given the broadcasting climate in general, the regional sports issues and cord cutting it didn't make much sense for the Sox, JR and Brooks to attempt to start a new regional sports network under those conditions. That gamble was a long shot and they are paying the price. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.1 point

That was probably Love to Watch Ray Run...by definition, if anything, there's much more competition in this market segment now than 10-15 years ago. Any type of monopoly argument would have been more relevant in the 80s or 90s. Basically the White Sox are in the entertainment business, but are not providing a compelling product. Business 101. Same reasons the Astros famously had a 0.0 local share in the early 2000s...but then went on an almost dynastic run for a decade following that when they put playoff team after playoff team on the field. Why would market forces do them the favor of bailing them out of that decision to not put a competitive product on the field? For that matter...why would local or state government help them out with public financing for a new stadium? Do better. Be better. You have to spend money and invest in your product to make money and build trust in the community.1 point

Summerhill at 1-10 would be a ridiculous reach. College bats are down in this year’s draft. Strength is HS shortstops. That’s a demo that is traditionally pretty safe, too. I say they need to stay disciplined and draft best hitter available. Chances are that it’ll be a HS guy. Working out so far with Bonemer. One or two more guys like that added at 1-10 and 2-1 would go a long way.1 point
