  2. I really wish Farmer were here to see this. As a tangent to that, I really wish sox had put on a remembering Ed Farmer day. We lost him during the pandemic, and he was such a big part of those who grew up in 90s-2010s (even if you hated him never telling the score). Every time I pass St. Rita I think "Hey farmio"

  3. For unspoken reasons I would like for him to come out very strongly in favor of the 78 spot. Just wanna see something

  4. It really bummed me out reading this news. So, so tragic. I honestly assumed he was an older guy based on how mature he came across and because he was one of the OGs that helped run the show here. I lurked here for a while before this account (let's be real, probably had an account or two that got banned, but I really don't remember). He was always such a quality poster as long as I can remember. He was only 2-3 years older than me, but damn was he wise and mature beyond his years. He was always kind to me despite whatever shenanigans of mine the mods had to deal with. Interesting the type of relationship/bond you can develop with people just by reading their posts and seeing their avatar frequently on an Internet forum, whether you conversed with them often or not. I was never particularly close with him, but it still hits home after sharing a message board with him for years and years. It's especially awful when somebody dies this young and in such a senseless manner. I wish everybody would take seriously the responsibility of driving a motor vehicle. RIP to one of the good ones. Heads clearly played a major part in making this place one of the best sports forums on the internet.

  6. More sad news, one of my favorites, Chet Lemon has passed away. Had a lot of health issues in recent years, including several strokes. Couldn't walk or talk during his final days. Only 70.

  9. At about 1:00 into this NBC News clip, the new Pope texts back to a priest who's known him for years where his Chicago baseball allegiance lies: https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/pope-leo-xiv-is-a-chicago-native-who-led-augustinian-order-239203909684 (For anyone who doesn't want to open the clip, the reply from Pope Leo is "Sox".)

  11. Man this hits hard. I've known about Alex since 2003. I joined this board in January 2004 and he was one of the first ones to welcome me in. The dude was such a great person. I still have our DMs (along with some other OGs here) from years ago here. One of them which I just happened to look at, was when I couldn't see or afford to watch MILB games online and the man literally gave me his email, username and password to watch our farm affiliates. You will be deeply missed Alex. May he RIP and prayers to his loved ones.

  13. The newly elected Pope Leo XIV, is from the south suburbs of Chicago (originally Dolton) and grew up an avid White Sox fan. We have hope, we got The Pope! Go Go White Sox.

  14. Cubs lose after falsely claiming the Pope. Sox win.

  15. Incompetence year in and year out. I was watching video of how our crowd was for the 2021 postseason. It was only a few games but oh my God the crowd was like none other. If the Sox could be a good team, we'd have a fanbase that rivals all others in terms of attendance and energy. Unfortunately our owner is so prideful he chooses to not desire a winning product, or at least chooses to not listen to the right people on how to produce that winning product. He really must not care about being the laughingstock of the league, and also must not care about his legacy, because it's ending on a very sour note.

  17. Quero benched meanwhile Vaughn in his usual 5th spot shoe horned in as the DH. I hate it here.

  21. Whose strategy though? Chris Getz made the Hagen Smith decision. Needed to feel good about developing the first rounder. I wonder if that changes this time. I just generally prefer the opposite strategy. Hitters early and draft pitching in 3-10.

  26. I mostly lurk, but I was here (under a different name) all the way back in 2002 from Soxtalks humble beginnings. This is senseless and tragic. Just fucking awful news. RIP

  27. He is a Sox fan. Seems international media ran with the Cubs given how irrelevant we are.

  28. If he is a Sox fan I see nothing wrong with the club promoting the hell out of it. MLB has been doing it for years and encourages it. Hell the Cubs have turned it into an art form.

  31. A lot of how I feel has been said. It is odd how this can hit you despite not previously having a name or face to the man. This community has meant a lot to a lot of people. I will add that I dont know any ISU fans personally so whenever I see a athletics headline where they pull off an upset or win a big game, I would think of him. That will continue to be the case. Rest in peace.

  33. Hmmm any sleuths able to tell if this is game 1 or 2 from the photo? It looks a tad warmer and I don't see rain so game 1? Regardless its fucking crazy the new pope was at a White Sox world series game. I'm hoping it's game 2 because that game was insane and made fans for life. (Not to mention I could say I was with the pope at the world series)

  35. This just reads like how the Sox operate in free agency. Instead of the top rated guys, we try to squint and find the almost as good guy for cheaper.

  39. The one problem with the internet in general is the abstraction that takes place where we are anonymous entities that interact with other anonymous entities. It sometimes removes the humanity of it all. We forget that these usernames are people with lives, loves, hopes, dreams, families and real world issues. I never met Alex in person but interacted with him on here. He was a good poster and seemed like a generally good human being. I am so sorry for the loss to his family, loved ones and his friends. It seems like he impacted and inspired those around him. That is the hallmark of a good man. God Bless him and may he receive external peace.

  40. Even though most of us have never met in person, we still have those real life memories and stories which makes it just as real.
