Other than catcher and RF/Braden...where are they going to get even average big league production in the future? Meidroth and Vargas (3B) maybe...and Bonemer? They would still need to add at least two legit hitters through free agency.

There was an old college stat/comment on Vaughn that I never saw until a year or so ago (probably here) that told how poorly Vaughn hit against the best pitchers, but he really feasted on the secondary pitchers in college. You would think that pro scouts would have noticed.

Guy looked like a hall of famer a few seasons ago, and now he's not even an MLB player.

Fletcher? DeLoach? Julks is arguably the one who has hit the best and most consistently, but the White Sox seem to have given up on all three of these guys, along with Elko, Colas, etc. Alex.Canario has a 641 OPS for the Pirates...watching him at age 24 would be a lot more fun than Palacios, who seems to be Venable's new favorite player with Maton off the roster.

You have to get this team as young as possible. Trade Tauchman and get whatever you absolutely can for Slater. Release Taylor and Capra and bring up 4 guys from Charlotte, two of which are Elko and Teel.

Shane Smith is also at 57 IP at the 1/3rd mark of the season. Only threw 94.3 IP last year. Highly doubt they're going to have him nearly double his count this season.

Honestly, the way I interpreted his comment was if he was too valuable to trade at 4 years control left he would probably still be at minimum as valuable with 3 years control left but an increase in production. Which makes sense to me.

Right, and that’s all I’m getting at. Most of us were dreaming pretty big after his 2023 season, where him taking another step didn’t seem all that far fetched at the time. To say now that AT BEST he was only going to maintain his current value, and not increase it, feels like hindsight to me.

I blame Jerry for hiring Getz; he is clearly over his head and has no idea what he is doing. There is no plan. His trades have been abysmal. His FA signings have been terrible. Also, while it's hard to evaluate his drafts this early, he has been trading for prospects; these are players he and his scouting staff have identified. Why would anyone think his drafting of prospects would be any better than his trading for prospects? This team is hopeless, let's face it. I don't want to be a doomer, but I am just fed up. Anyone who is selling people on this being a process, explain that process to me, and don't say tanking for picks, because sucking isn't a process; it's a result. That is why poorly run bad teams in MLB rarely turn themselves around in the draft this is a team sport. One player or the first overall pick doesn't change the fortunes of a club you need a deep team to win in baseball. The angels had both Trout and Ohtani but still sucked for years. That is why in baseball you need a plan and you need a wave of prospects to pretty much all arrive at the same time to be competitive.

Good thread. To me, Cagz or Wetherholt or Braden or (high schooler) Griffin was the pick for us. It seemed unimagined to take another lefty pitcher with an awkward delivery. The org seems to do well with those guys, and Hagan fits the mold, so let’s wait and see with him. But Jac was clearly not a Vaughn clone, and seemingly the best player available to us. I hope he kills it with the Royals. I think our Smith is gonna be good too, despite his walks, but those two positions players (sans Braden who we got) seem like they will be quite good. I like wetherholt particularly, seems like his injury concerns are a paper tiger.
