Y2Jimmy0 had this dialed in by the way if anybody on here doubts him. 100% credit to him he had all the players.10 points

In AAA last season, Sandlin threw: 28% 4-seamers, averaging 97.1 mph. Standard sort of rise-y profile and gets a few whiffs but not amazing. 22% cutters, averaging 91.6 mph and generating decent swing as miss but also got hit hard. 21% sliders, averaging 86.8mph with a lot of sideways movement and pretty good depth. Similar results to the cutter as far as okay whiff rate but lots of hard contact. 14% sinkers, averaging 95.7mph. Seems like an ordinary sinker. Not a ton of sink really but a lot more run than his 4 seamer which is part of the job description. Doesn't get whiffed on and got hit hard as sinkers tend to do. 12% sweepers, averaging 85.3mph. This thing has a ton of sideways movement and wasn't hit very hard relative to his other offerings. I don't know whether it might be the case that Statcast is inadvertently classing his good sweepers as sweepers and his bad sweepers as sliders. 2% 82mph curveballs. Too small of a sample to pay much attention to. 1 changeup. See above. So he's not really throwing anything that moves away from lefties (other than the sinker, which you don't want to use against oppo-handed hitters). From the data, the only change in his approach to pitch selection against lefties was canning the sinker. He threw about 60% of his pitches against lefties in AAA so he was not enjoying platoon advantage very often. Interestingly, righties made better contact against him anyway (xwOBA much higher for righties than lefties, although lefties had better actual wOBA).5 points

I’m not sure why there isn’t room to keep Sosa if we want to keep him. As I have mentioned before, we have lots of guys with positional versatility. In the infield alone, Colson can play some 3B if Vargas needs a day off and Meidroth can shift over to SS if Colson needs a day off. On top of that, you have Acuna that fill in at SS & 2B as needed and Baldwin who can play anywhere in the infield. The point I’m making here is that you don’t need a traditional reserve infielder who can handle SS since other guys can. I also don’t know who is ahead of Sosa in the pecking order for a bench spot. For now, let’s assume our starting OF most days is Baldwin, Acuna, & Hayes, that we only go with two catchers, and that Benitendi splits time between DH & LF. That leaves three more bench to fill and our only definite need is legit 4th OF (which I assume will be Pereira). IMO, there is certainly room for a guy who can beat up LHP to fill one of those two spots. Unless we can get something of real value for him, I’d hold onto Sosa and make him my primary DH against LHP with some fill it time at 2B. It may not be a huge role, but one that would expand if / when injuries take place.5 points

I like the Hicks gamble much better if they plan to use him as a reliever. Would still need Sandlin to be a dude to justify the gamble though.4 points

Sox got a good pitching prospect back that will probably be in the rotation this year and are putting Hicks back in the bullpen where he can try and be a little more electric. They also gave up a guy named Gage, so it's a win no matter what.4 points

Sandlin was Boston's number 11 prospect in the preseason 2026 list for BA. Scouting report below.4 points

A lot of questioning of JR when he hired Getz. No matter what you think of them, recognize that Chris has worked his ass off trying to make the White Sox into a likeable, competitive team. I think he is on the way to doing just that. I'm psyched for ST and opening day. Let's Go !4 points

For the record I’ve been fine with all their moves. It just shouldn’t have taken a Luis Robert salary dump deal to make them when the collection of guys is pretty “meh” overall. Like you might as well have eaten $15M and taken best offer.3 points

I don’t care how the White Sox feel. I hope they feel bad. I will cheer for wins and excellence. Faith is earned.3 points

Could be a few months away from Sandlin throwing to Teel with Meidroth in the IF and Braden Montgomery in the OF, fun little alternate reality watch for Boston fans. Paez too, if he sticks. Similar to them having Crochet, Romy, Gio, and Liam over there, but the latter two struggled with health. I still root for Crochet and Romy though.3 points

Having 1:1 will change that dynamic. Won 't chart his game to game progress though. Maybe once a month when people get excited when he 's on a tear. I hardly ever ( never say never) kick prospects when they are down.3 points

Wow! Sandlin was who I was told failed the medicals3 points

I'm not sure your average Soxtalk poster will pay attention to college baseball if the draft threads/discussions are any indication. Probably for the best as well.3 points

Sounds to me Hicks is gone at TDL if he bounces back, so they could get out of that $12M for next season.2 points

Yea it is, but Getz had to do it in that order, or risk getting even less for Robert. Sooner Ishbia takes over the better.2 points

I will again say it’s embarrassing they had to wait to deal Robet to make THESE moves.2 points

Iirc teams often have the right to take cash in lieu and a lot of the time do so.2 points

Of the 9 guys I listed as possible DFA, only 3 have options left. The Sox just DFA’d 2 of them. Not a huge deal, but the last day of Spring is gonna be a day of reckoning because not all of those guys who are out of options are gonna make this team.2 points

Maybe Frank was too critical of the team during the 121 loss season. If you're not a total ass kisser, you're persona non grata in this organization - it's the Jerry Reinsdorf way.2 points

Iriarte was one of the two most likely DFA candidates IMO and I think he will clear and be outrighted to AAA. I’m actually shocked by Romo being the second DFA as it makes me feel the Sox might carry three catchers (which I don’t like).2 points

Well, this is the organization who hired Schriffen to be their TV PBP guy. He didn't even know how to pronounce Bill Veeck's last name!2 points

The Bulls and White Sox made on paper straight A trades in back to back days. Marginal roster moves, but still, it all adds up.2 points

Really creative trade by Getz. I'm a big fan of Sandlin. He could be a big league contributor out of the pen this season if they wanted to go that route. They essentially turned 1/2 season of Slater into a top 10 arm in the system.2 points

I think he meant the Red Sox save $16M. He didn’t specify but the math works right. Typical Boob to not specify in a deal involving 2 Sox teams2 points

Starting to believe Iriarte isn’t going to be what I had hoped.2 points

Good move overall - this is the type of grinding I like to see front office do.2 points

I’d have Hicks out of the pen and see if he can harness his stuff in short stints. Does he still have his elite velocity?2 points
-
Could very well be that there was a concern but they delayed the trade to look a little more in depth. Not uncommon in trades. May even be that the sox hot a little more money back due to the concern.2 points

I am not enamored of Ziehl, but Sandlin doesn't seem like anything either. Will be interesting to see how much money Sox are getting to offset Hicks.2 points
-
I think they'll both play plenty. Would like to see Sox at least toy with letting these guys play somewhere other than C and DH a time or two a week. The reality is the Sox are an injury or two away from none of this "crunch" mattering at all. Those guys will get plenty of at bats.2 points
-
Best case is Hicks looks good and is traded before he earns the 8 million so JR makes a profit lol. Sandlin doesn't need TJ but did they see something on medicals?2 points

I think at one point they tried a seperate Leasure trade but didn't go through. White Sox want to keep him.2 points

Who’s excited to overdraft to every bad game Roch has this year? I know I am.2 points
-
It’s hard to believe there’s not a place to play for a guy that led the team in homers and RBIs on a team that lost over 100 games again, I think Sosa is a potential 30 homer guy. If he stays someone has to go, Benintendi is the obvious choice but the Sox would probably have to pay part of his salary and that is against everything JR stands for.2 points
