I would think it depends on “how good.” And they absolutely should be open to dealing a guy who signed a contract with the idea of becoming a FA at the age of 28.
It sure seems like Colson can handle the SS position. If he gets moved off of SS to 3B or another position, it will likely be due to one or both reasons below:
1.) Roch Cholowsky being called up to the majors.
2.) More back issues a la Greedy Joe Crede.
But those wouldn’t be talent-related issues.
I actually ran into the guy randomly like twice. Once in the basement of the Hyatt Regency waiting to get into a Soxfest, and then about a year ago, he was on a plane to NYC with me.
Fegan has a great article over at Sox Machine that talks through our big four pitching prospects with Brian Bannister. I’d highly recommend everyone give it a read. If you do, also check the comments as Fegan has some nuggets on Sean Burke that talk through how adding a sinker last year caused his slider to go backwards.
I would think that if this team is playing anything close to .500 ball by the end of July, they keep all the 2-year guys so they're not trying to build half a team again in a month during March of 2027.
I still think there's untapped consistently higher velo in there too, once he gets to a point of lower bottle stability and repeatability in his delivery.
So weird to see them like this. They were always like the Yankees of the Midwest without the money. The team to beat. Now it seems like they could be mired in mediocrity
The Tiger’s payroll is up to $215 million, more than double the limit for the Sox. They have a larger revenue stream, and bigger attendance. And yet, they have a Competitive B pick they cannot lose. The current system is complete BS and seems designed to largely screw one team: The Sox. The frickin’ Cardinals get bonus picks for crying out loud. I hope to God it changes in the next CBA so that every team operates under the same rules.
