  2. First game thread in 10 years and it's a James Shields start. I'm sorry man. Better luck next decade.

  4. One more thing Hahn said about Hansen is that this same thing happened with him in high school, so Hansen wasn’t worried about it himself. http://www.espn.com/espnradio/chicago/podcast/archive?id=13678310

  5. It's pretty much on schedule. Ligaments take 6-8 weeks to heal enough to begin work with them. They will want to be a little conservative with the thumb UCL as gripping is not functional without it.

  6. And when the response to people saying "We have to care about social issues and need to put ourselves in the shoes of someone else if we think they're unimportant" is "How dare you suggest that my perspective needs to be checked, mine is the important one", we may just be doomed to that anyway.

  7. James Shields(1-3 6.14) vs Michael Wacha(4-1 3.62) First time making a gameday thread in forever...10 years maybe. My entire family are Cardinal fans. Let's go Sox

  8. And the scary thing is he has a ton of room for improvement still. Moncada's K rate is currently 37.6% and he has an .882 OPS. If you reduced his K rate to 20% and gave him roughly average results for him across those plate appearances (22 PA 8 H 3 2B 1 HR 3 BB), his line would be .351/.440/.667, which shows how important it is for him to cut that K rate down and how ridiculously well he's performed offensively when not striking out.

  10. For as good as the prospects that were acquired look, it's stunning how inept this org is at scouting and acquiring veterans.

  16. Obama made everyone think racism was dead and buried. The normalization of Trump makes many of us believe it simply will never be overcome in America. Pretty crazy swing in 8 years.

  17. Sounds like you're describing Keon Barnum there...but a 7th round draft pick failing isn't a huge deal in the overall scheme of things, it's more the 1st through 3rd and maybe 4th/5th rounders you should be most critical of (depending on whether they're under or oversigns.)

  20. If you mean break from Republicans as far as just what he says and the way he acts. In that regard he is a break from everything regardless of party. As far as policies go. He is right in line. I stand by saying that Bush and Reagan were worse. Trump has time to prove me wrong. Bush in general has been getting a lot of nice things said about him lately. How quickly people forget.

  21. Want to hear something really scary? In the 80's when ACL reconstructions were faitly new, we would keep them in a cast for 12 weeks. It was no wonder it was difficult to return to sports after that injury.

  23. This is very encouraging, as others mentioned especially with Hansen.

  24. it can both be true that 60 million people voted for white christian supremacy, something Trump's campaign was fairly explicit about and his administration has been very explicit about, and also that the Democrats can't just rely on pointing that out if they want to win elections. I'm also gonna say that the blame for the "doom" lays at the feet of the conservative movement who's degraded American society and politics for decades and whose inevitable results were first the likes of Palin and now Trump. Conservatives have almost entirely eagerly gotten behind the Trump administration.

  25. Because people will do almost anything to defend white supremacy. For example, when someone called a person out for saying social issues shouldn't matter, you stepped up to defend that premise, even while claiming you weren't supporting it. The idea that anyone might have a different perspective about being shot in the street or denied the vote and we should listen to that perspective and not discount it, the idea that other people are human and should be treated that way; you turned into this: It was a great example of exactly why Donald Trump took over that party and why he won that election, because this is the issue that defines America.

  29. It's currently 2.2:1. If he's going to be an above average, most of the time DH who backs up 3b or 1b occasionally, my goal out of that position is something like an .850 OPS as that would be above AL average production out of that position. Since he strikes out a lot that would bounce up and down every year, some years he might be .825 some years he might be at .900, but I think that's a reasonable goal. Give me that and I'm happy with him as a DH for the next several years.

  30. This is absolutely ridiculous.

  31. A good way to think about it is there are quite a few good left-handed hitters who struggle to maintain a .600 OPS against lefties. He doesn't have to be the same guy on both sides of the plate and you have to recognize there's risk that he could be worse as a lefty against lefties.
