Not surprising at all. For a poster who always wants to “JUST WIN BABY”, you sure love supporting stupid opinions by our stupid manager which actually leads to the team losing more games. How ironic.7 points

This is the type of bullshit though that leads to Abreu batting 3rd the next two seasons5 points

Dotel didn’t close any deals, he was setup, man. Castillo was caught stealing, but luckily has a pretty good defense. I’ll see myself out.4 points

In other words - you basically find more enjoyment in the Sox failing than succeeding.4 points

If the Sox were an NBA team, they would play through the slow, methodical center and shoot 20 footers the whole game.3 points

"Analytics would say to bat Tim Anderson higher up in the order in Yonder Alonso lower, but fat guys DH and DHs are #4 hitters. My gut says so."3 points

I do agree there should be a mix, but I have no idea what batting a guy with a .322 slugging pct clean up does for a team in a positive way.It is time to take one of Ricky’s toys away and cut bait with Jon Jay. They could have saved more money and actually spent the $ 1 million internationally had they just done the obvious and realized Jon Jay would probably not make it through the season on the roster based on merit. The Sox love RR. He is going nowhere, so hopefully he will learn from mistakes. There actually are several teams where the manager doesn’t make ou the line up.3 points

"I go against things winning teams are doing", the rant. Get rid of him please.3 points

Abreu is 4th in the sport in hard hit balls and is 15th in average exit velocity (minimum 200 BBE). I'm not sure where the people saying his batted ball stats suck are getting that from. If it's purely about pull% or something then maybe, but if he were on any other team, someone with the two stats I mentioned would be sought after by the board as a short-term 1B/DH.3 points

I like to say I think it’s very neat of Reinsdorf to put the Abreu statue on the field while he’s still on the active roster2 points

This entire front office is a disgrace tbh. Why are guys like Skole, Castillo, Reed, Jay, and to an extent Goins even getting AB's. It is common fucking knowledge these guys aren't in the plans when there are guys younger doing better things in AAA. I can be okay with Collins since for whatever reason he is being blocked by Castillo and whatever garbage is at DH so he can get more ABs. Fine. But where is Yermin and Mendick. You do not know what they are at the MLB level. Goins has been professional so I can't knock him and maybe he gets Yolmers spot next year as an IF utility guy. Then you have Fulmer who is out of options being put aside for the likes of Josh Osich, Herrera, and others when you still don't know what he will be really. This was allegedly the last year before we open the window and we still have a ton of unknowns that could be factors next year. Yermin has RAKED at every level. That could be a cheap, controlable DH option next year and we haven't got a sniff of him. Bringing some of these guys up in September is way too small of a sample size to rely on. It's pathetic.2 points

This sounds pretty alarming. Some balance isn't bad but it sounds like he is not really willing to learn. Kyle boddy said many managers and coaches delete emails by the analytics crew without reading it and then joke about this. It is all about what the front office tolerates. I think the sox are still in a "analytics is optional" stage. They are getting more of those progressive guys but the coaches and managers still can choose themselves how and if they want to use it. Houston on the other hand really enforced this and fired all the old school guys. Sox aren't there yet, they have smart analysts but it probably isn't enforced to use this top to bottom. Enforcing this is no easy job. Luhnow is hated in the industry and the easier way is to provide the analytics but make the usage optional in the hope that over time the employees learn to love this by themselves. Not as efficient though, albeit easier for organisational harmony and peace.2 points

Please get fired yesterday. He’s an old school manager who “trusts his gut” and he has no place in today’s game if baseball. The fact that he angrily replied to a question about analytics means he likely hates them.2 points
-
For some of the other quotes you could say that he's making a legitimate argument for balance in decision making and understanding where your players are on any given day, but this is the key one telling you the point he wants to make. Stats people "I don't give a bleep what you think so stop questioning me I deserve this and your opinion doesn't matter". He calls for balance, but note which side he wants to swear at.2 points

This makes a lot of sense at least, now we know a big reason why he is a terrible manager2 points

The length of this Moncada rehab assignment seems excessive, and with a day game tomorrow, it's looking like a Thursday return. He should bring Collins, Madrigal, and Robert with him.2 points
-
8th should be good. Who have we drafted 8th on our history recently, probably someone really good.2 points
-
He has to find a couple of other free agents to woo Cole. Then failing to sign Cole, Ricky will give plenty of playing time to those free agents, and then if one of them is an interstate hitter, he will bat 4th. To cement that Collins, Robert, Madrigal, will be at Charlotte because there it no place for them.1 point

Execute your pitches better. Have a better plan of attack. You don't need to knock people on their ass like its 1960 to effectively pitch.1 point
-
Cole to the Sox probably makes more sense than any other potential move I can imagine. They have the money and desperately need to improve their rotation. But many of us don’t expect it to happen. It’s disappointing but it is what it is.1 point

Sounds to me like Ricky's butthurt about something. We have Jay batting what is it, 7th today? That's abnormal, almost like someone told him what to do. Then you have a rant about sabermetrics? Sorry Ricky, your lineups suck a fat one. I hope someone did finally tell you that.1 point

Thing is you don't need to be much of a numbers guy to not bat the worst hitters clean up.1 point

And people wonder why this organization has been a joke for a decade. The more behind the scenes stuff we hear, the more you realize how far this organization is away from the top organizations.1 point

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Abreu been abnormally unlucky based on batted ball data? I don't think Abreu's BB rate is that far off his career number. Though it seems he's swinging at more bullshit, I thought someone posted that his OZone swing % is actually lower than his career number.1 point

I can‘t find anything about that. In 2015 the Red Sox finished last in their division with 78 wins, which was the 12th worst record in the league, but they ranked 14th in cumulative WAR. This has been the biggest outlier regarding the Red Sox I was able to find, but it‘s not that far off base.1 point

If you can‘t quantify something in baseball, it very likely doesn‘t exist. There is a reason the stat revolution happened first in baseball. It’s the easiest sport to apply mathematical analysis. I have yet to see a convincing argument for the existence of the hitters around someone making someone perform better offensively.1 point

100% agree. Nelson Cruz hit substantially better in 2018 than abreu in 2019 and got 1 year 14 mil with an option. Granted he's older but not in any kind of meaningful way.1 point

I actually got banned from there in September in 2005. It was when they were in that slump and about to lose that huge lead and someone posted "Man I hate this team right now" and I responded with "I know the feeling." Mods said we were both trolls and banned forever.1 point

This was like 2004-2005 so fuck them. Rocketmail and yahoo shouldn't have been an automatic disqualifier1 point

Sox have so many guys whose weakness is low and away sliders, they’re going to single-handedly give half the league TJs.1 point

I posted over there years ago, but was banned; I think it was when KW stupidly said something to the effect that Ventura "could have been a general or admiral if he had been in the military," and as a veteran, I took offense to that. But yeah, I don't feel bad for WSI, in all honesty. They got what they wanted, in my view.1 point

You have been banned for the following reason: Now you're happy - don't have to deal with us Mods anymore Date the ban will be lifted: Never That's what happens when I log in. I don't even remember what I did. For all I know someone might have logged into my account. There was no way to dispute it. I think the site was too sensitive and people would be banned left and right. Instead of banning they should have removed posts/threads and give warnings. Eventually you run out of members. I would not be surprised this is a retaliation from a member or former member. Do I feel sorry for them? Not really. They made their own bed. Lay in it. One of the former mods is now on this site and followed the same over-moderation at WSI.1 point

I didn’t realize a guy who scores 100+ runs, hits 30+ doubles, steals 20+ bases, and plays solid defense, cant be considered worthy of starting player status.1 point

On the one hand, I appreciate ya'll owning your takes OTOH, this take ain't it chiefs. Moncada was diagnosed with a strain by an MRI, and it is serious enough to be out 2 weeks. This is a legit injury. And no, I don't care about the time you played through 3 broken ankles for your beer league softball team or whatever other dumb story makes you think a guy not being able to play through a hammy strain is soft.1 point
