  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 09:41 AM) Yep. Engel hasn't proven anything yet and Paulie should get credit for the change in Davidson's swing. I'd wait and see with Steverson. No not Paulie but the same guy who worked with PK asst, hitting coach Mike Gellinger. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20170805...hanged-my-swing
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 11:24 AM) He is the lead off hitter, it is very typical for a lead off guy to take the first pitch or two. He does need to swing at it every once and awhile to keep them honest though Typically batting averages on 1st pitch strikes are very high. As a hitter, leadoff or not, you have to keep that in mind.
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:10 PM) who would you bat leadoff? and honestly...I've had no problem at all with Avi batting 2nd at all. I have a little problem with Avi batting 2nd . Even when people said he sucked he always hit well with RISP . Right now he just isn't getting the opportunities to drive runs in.I'd like to see Sanchez 2nd at least against righties then Avi, Abreu, Davidson, Castillo.
  4. Non issue. Last man on a non contending team when any kid needs playing time and wont get it in Sally's spot.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 11:14 AM) I don't mind benetti but I also don't mind most broadcasters. But I do think the specific criticisms people try to make for why they don't like him are kinda ridiculous. Just say he rubs you the wrong way. Doesn't excite you. I get it. But if you read a game thread, there is literally zero people that could satisfy every nitpicky thing people cry about Benetti. The Q&A thing. I mean give me a break. That is how people talk and converse. The only specific complaint that has resonated is the complaint that Farmer never says the score which is 100% accurate but also I am one of four people that still likes Farmer & DJ. Though I will say Farmer sounds 100 years older this year. I don't think he's back again for another year. This for the most part. Did I like Hawk more ? Yep. If you listen to Jason you know he is highly intelligent based on his humor. He can be downright funny , dry or poke fun at Stone )often as he does to himself too. Sure some things aren't as funny but when you yakety yak that's going to happen. It's probably that he just isn't as big a homer as Hawk and I love baseball history /stories about which Hawk can do and Benetti can't having not played. Hawk played the game and it seemed to hurt him when the Sox sucked. That resonates with me . Benetti is a professional broadcaster and it's ok the Sox lost I'm off to my next gig. I care so I want the play by play guy to care. Hawk did, Jason doesn't and that may never change.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 06:03 PM) Ok Ricky, Moncada can do that too when he gets on. Wanna see this team stealing more. Me too. I started a thread about it in the replacement level Soxtalk . If last year was the "bunt" year , this year can be the "steal" year especially for Anderson, Engel and Moncada. If Timmy played in the era when steals made baseball exciting he's capable of 50. 70 if he walked more.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 05:45 PM) Garcia hit that one to god damn Quebec Probably will be the longest Sox HR of the year .Not many go that far in game. I
  8. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:56 AM) https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/mlb/...cubs-astros#top One of the best Sox articles I've seen written in years Warning: Its very long. Was really good and factually correct. I never understand the warnings about long articles. It's pretty short compared to a short story and miniscule compared to a novel. Don't young people like to read anymore ? People whining about long posts bothers me. If you don't want your post to be misinterpreted ( which it will be anyway thanks to reading comprehension levels ) you take the time to explain your point fully. Sorry sometime I like to rant.
  9. After one game I am doing great . I took Davidson and Engel as my darkhorse and surprise candidates in that thred and in the thread about the over and under and certain players HR totals I said all would go over. On a serious note very cool game with all the HR's and actual walks from Davidson and Aderson and 2 from Engel. All were not exactly on base machines last year. Pretty soon all the talk about the Sox not developing hitting prospects is going to come to a screeching halt if Sanchez, Leury , Dalmonico Davdson, Engel and Anderson can all show major improvement.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 09:44 AM) Funny you mention Moustakas...aren't they eerily similar in terms of career ladder? I recall Moustakas really not being all that great until his breakout season last year...and he's what?...29-30 now? Like green mentioned...this is his first full season not looking over his shoulder. He's put in a ton of work this off season and has even talked about his approach and seeing/taking more pitches. He (as well as others) just look much more comfortable out there. Maybe Steverson deserves more credit than he's getting. Between Avi, Engel and Davidson...we're seeing different players at the plate. But yeah...proof is in the results. I think Davidson's here to stay... First, Moustakas broke out in HR's last year but has had better seasons probably 2 others. Second, Davidson gives credit to the same guy that helped Konerko assistant hitting coach Mike Gellinger . http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20170805...hanged-my-swing

  13. I know we are all glad to be back but sort of surprised there was nothing here about Staub. It's my opinion that if we were to have the life of a major league player we couldn't pick one better than Rusty Staub. He hit his 1st HR in the majors at age 19 and his last at age 41. His career was 23 seasons and was best known for his years with Montreal and the Mets. With the Expos he was undoubtedly the most popular player in franchise history and his nickname was Le Grand Orange for his red hair. When he was traded to the Expo's he decided to learn French because he said he felt stupid not being able to communicate with children. This endeared him to the fans and he was hugely popular. Here is an article from 1970 from Sports Illustrated talking about that popularity. https://www.si.com/vault/1970/07/06/611444/...le-grand-orange With the Mets he hits 3 HR's one year in the NLCS and hit over .400 in the World Series in a losing effort against the A's . More importantly over his life he helped raise over $100M for the families of police and fire department members killed in the line of duty. I'm sure there is a lot more to say about him but you get the idea. Rest in Peace Le Grand Orange . Condolences to your many fans , family and friends. Rusty Staub was 73. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusty_Staub http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...ticle-1.3902929 https://nypost.com/2018/03/29/mets-legend-r...aub-dead-at-73/
  14. Nice to see Nate Jones throe a 123 inning.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 08:20 PM) Just thought there should be some positives after we've already discounted Burger from playing 3rd, Collins from catching and Adolfo's injury. Oh, and now concerns about LouieRob hitting a breaking ball after 2 K's in 3 AB's. I'm joking, but not completely...as some of those are going to be real concerns, others just a minor blip that will be long forgotten. Actually, Basabe has pretty much the same amount of raw talent as Adolfo...particularly on the defensive (has looked awesome throwing) side of things. He's a true RFer. Of course, his power upside (especially projected homers) isn't that high, at least not yet, and he's really now flying under the radar because of all the struggles last season (and the huge influx of talent, Rutherford, etc.), but he has really been impressive the first few times I've watched him this year. (Yes, it's ONLY spring training, Ryan Sweeney, etc....and also trying to remember that utility infielder (3B) who hit like 6-7 homers in spring training at least 5 years ago that never turned out to be much of a factor during the regular season.) utility infielder (3B) who hit like 6-7 homers in spring training ...Wilson Betemit ?
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 02:04 PM) If you can get Moose for something crazy like 4/$48M or 5/$60M then sure I’d consider it. However, I seriously doubt Boras would agree to such a contract without an opt-out, which is 100% a deal-breaker for me. Therefore, stay the course / keep the draft pick, give Sanchez the 3B ABs in 2018 to see what he can be, pursue the mega 3B free agents the next two offseasons, and find short-term solutions on the cheap if needed. I think those numbers are still too high. He may end up signing for something like that but it wouldn't be with the Sox. Maybe Boras has something up his sleeve but if he get's anything beyond 3 years at this point I'd be surprised and if he gets more than $35M I'd also be surprised. There's just no long term market for him and a short term deal isnt worth it unless its ridiculously low considering the draft pick compensation ( for the signing team ) and the fact he'll be up against Machado and Donaldson, then the year after Arenado and Rendon. They are in a really tough spot and anyone considering signing him has a huge advantage.
  17. Saw a video of Burger talking about the injury on CSNChicago and said He would focus on nutrition and his diet . Said he talked to Jose Contrera and Jodse told him he lost 30 lbs during his rehab and Burger ssid he was looking forward to that. I get the impression that even Burger thinks he was too big.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 04:40 PM) Agreed and it's surprising to me he seems to have the CF edge over Leury It;s early in ST but I get that impression too. I also grt the impression that the SOx want Leury in the INF more than the OF or want Engel or Cordell to win the job. Just an impression for the moment . I will probably be proven wrong.
  19. QUOTE (Scoots @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 02:58 PM) Watched basically the whole game up until the 8th. Damn it lol. I was the only one talking in the 1st 5 innings then had to go .Nice to see the Sox come back and not so nice that I missed it.
  20. Sox 5th . Leadoff double to LCF , Monda K's looking. Kevan Smith grounds to 2nd. Gillasp1e to 3rd. Saladino lines out to 1st.
  21. Rob Scahill pitching for Sox in Rangers 4th. 3 up 3 down
  22. Sox 4th. Leury lines out hard to 1st base. Abreu pops out to catcher in fair territory. Avi K's on 3 pitches. Leclerc was pitching for the Rangers.
  23. House gives up a triple and sac fly in the 3rd. 3-0 Rangers.
  24. White Sox 3rd Saladino lead off HBP. Basabe grounds into DP on 3-1 pitch . Engel grounds out to P Alex Claudio. Only Sox hit through 3 is an Avi double in the 2nd.
