Max Stassi Acquired
Sounds like he will come to the Sox for cheap, but even if it was $7M does it really matter? Overpaying the backup C by $4M next year will be the least of our worries. Not sure there’s even a logical way Getz can get the payroll to $150M without doing more damage than good. Payroll isn’t even on my mind for 2024, it’s irrelevant.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
Would love to see the details of the deferred $. Ohtani is going to be getting checks for $5M a year until he’s 65.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I wonder if the Rays are crafty enough to sell off Glasnow and then trade for Cease. Would be a very Rays move.

Cease To Padres per Passan
None of the Dodgers top prospects are super enticing like other systems but a package that starts with Rushing and De Paula isn’t too shabby. Unfortunately, like Busch, most of their pitching prospects are 25+. Rushing + De Paula + Pages + a lotto ticket arm would be hard to say no to though

Cease To Padres per Passan
Fair enough, like I said, only looked at 1 list. Of course it’s all subjective. Basallo is a stud and likely deserves to be top 3, and I can see Kjerstad being dinged because of his age. Cowser and Mayo is probably a toss up depending on who you ask tho…and wether they are 3 or 4 is pretty irrelevant. My (hopefully) realistic offer to the Orioles would be Kjerstad, Mayo, Horvath and Juan Nunez. Still leaves them with Holliday, Cowser, Basallo, and Norby ready to make an impact within the next 2 years. They obviously need the TOR arm and have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to young talented position players.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Was going by last year’s mlb pipeline(Holliday, Cowser, Kjerstad) . Do you graduate Cowser and Kjerstad as “not prospects” after a cup of coffee in the majors last year? Wouldn’t shock me if Basallo was good enough at such a young age to jump at least 1 of them tho.

Cease To Padres per Passan
The Orioles system is honestly drool worthy. You can skip their top 3 prospects and still come up with a great package for Cease Basallo, Mayo, Norby, Beavers, Horvah…if we could get 3 of those 5 + a young arm it’s a heck of a deal

DeJong to Sox
Wonder if all $1.75M is guaranteed? With the state of the roster it really doesn’t make sense to have an old and bad player take up playing time. We have what, like 5/6 guys under 26 that can play MI?

Cease To Padres per Passan
I wonder what the possibility of a Cease + Eloy deal to the Diamondbacks for a crazy prospect package is? Both players fit a need for the Dbacks (at least in theory Eloy does) without breaking whatever budget they have. They also have a very young core in place so trading blocked prospects makes sense to capitalize on the WS run and not fall off. A Tommy Young and Colson left side of the IF in 2026 would be pretty sexy. Young, Lin, De Le Santos + would be a nice shot in the arm to the rebuild.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Are you suggesting they are going to be old and broken down by the time the Sox are good? Might be the case because the franchise sucks and may never get good, but the idea that we have to look 5/6 years down the road is crazy to me. A competent franchise should be able to get back into contention by ‘26. And no I wouldn’t be worried about having guys in the prime at 28/29 with multiple years of team control left.

Nola back to Philly, 7/$172
Is Nola really a low tier ace? He’s been largely a 3/4 with 2 low tier ace years mixed in. That’s a lot of $ for a SP that’s had an era above 4.4 2 of the past 3 years…I know the Phillies have it and SP’s aren’t easy to come by, but definitely a good bit of risk here.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Frasso, Pages, Busch, and Feduccia would be my asking price from the Dodgers. Feduccia just because we are likely to be in desperate need for a playable catcher at some point next year

Cease To Padres per Passan
Any combo of 2 of Painter, Abel, Crawford, and Aidan Miller from the Phillies + a lesser prospect would be a nice deal for the Sox. And I think the Phillies make a lot of sense as they are on the cusp of a WS and Cease represents a way to get a TOR SP without spending a lot of $ so they can spend elsewhere.

Bummer to ATL
Certainly nothing to complain about here, good move. Do I have any faith in the Sox being able to “fix” prospects the Braves couldn’t? No, but crazier things have happened I suppose. Hopefully whatever forearm issues Soraka was dealing with at the end of the year isn’t foreshadowing for a surgery to come.

Benetti to Tigers
Yeah I honestly don’t even know about the Tigers owners and their financial situation. Bad franchise and not a destination city would have been a better way to put it. Basically, the statement the Sox put out is complete BS is what I’m saying. Going to Detroit is not a “career changing” moment like they tried to spin it and I highly doubt Jason even wanted to go there.
-
Benetti to Tigers
I don’t think any human on earth could talk about the last few seasons of White Sox baseball with a straight face. Did you want to hear how shitty our franchise is for 2 hrs straight every game? Gotta fill the depressing dead air with something. Bennetti is a high level announcer and letting him leave is dumb. Especially when it’s to another poverty franchise in the same division. No way Detroit blew him away with a huge offer Jerry couldn’t pay.

2024 Offseason Plan - "Try" to Compete Edition
Is it bad that I actually really want the front office to try and compete? But only because I think that will result in unintentional tanking.

Tim Anderson Free Agency Discussion
Can you point to the off field issues for the rest of the team? Except for maybe Robert, literally the entire organization has underperformed and failed to meet expectations. Time to admit this organization is a cesspool of failure. Tim was just an easy target, albeit some was indeed self inflicted. With that said, this isn’t anything I’m upset about. I’m sure TA is just as happy to leave as fans are to get rid of him, might be best for all sides. If the $ is spent in an intelligent way, great. But if he was let go just for the sake of getting rid of him and saving $ I personally would have held on to him to see if a turn around and trade could have happened.

Gabe Kapler
The team is in so much flux that I honestly don’t care who the manager is. No manager is saving this sinking ship. Suffer it out 1 more year with Pedro and this terrible roster and then bring in someone new when the team is (hopefully) revamped.

MLB Trade Rumors - Chicago White Sox Offseason Outlook - by Tim Dierkes
There’s maybe 100 sports franchise in the country worth owning and the Sox are 1 of them. There’s almost 800 billionaires in the US alone. The scarcity makes it make perfect sense. Plus, if done right, a baseball franchise in a major market like Chicago SHOULD be a great way to make a profit. We just have unfortunately been stuck with Jerry, who doesn’t care enough to do things the right way to cultivate and keep the fan base

MLB Trade Rumors - Chicago White Sox Offseason Outlook - by Tim Dierkes
The move is obviously to keep rebuilding, but who do we have left that has any value? Cease(coming off a down year), Robert…and ??? No idea how they turn this thing around other than 3-4 more bad years with good drafting. And that’s like asking for a miracle with this organization. Sadly the best solution for the mental health of us fans is to just ignore the Sox as much as possible until there’s a new owner.

Josh Barfield expected to be asst. GM; Brian Bannister and Gene Watson coming as well
Still don’t think Getz should have been the hire…but it is undeniably a good sign that he’s surrounding himself with smart people that fill holes the organization has had for a long time.
-
It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
This is the definition of shuffling the chairs on the titanic. This franchise is doomed. And I can almost guarantee they will shift away from the tear down and try to patch this team back together. Jerry’s main goal has always been to stay relevant just to profit.

Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
This story has gotta be 1 of the weirder ones in a while. How do 2 people get shot in a crowded baseball stadium and no one knows how? If it was from outside of the stadium it would have had to be 2 bullets falling from the sky that hit 2 different people? My only guess is that someone snuck a gun into the stadium and it accidentally discharged at the right/wrong time when there was a lot of noise so it wasn’t noticeable.

Sooo, parallel universe: Who would you hire?
What if Jerry said F it and hired Jeffery Luhnow? Would fans care about the cheating scandal? He’s gotta be the best candidate for the president role. His resume with the Astros is incredible regardless of the scandal.
