I’m going to make a chicken pot pie and see how that goes until the game starts.

Weird Al Yankovic had his people write to Sir Paul McCartney's people to get permission to use the "Live And Let Die" song for a parody titled "Chicken Pot Pie".

Sir Paul refused.

True story.

Weird Al also contacted Coolio to do a parody of Gangsta's Paradise called Amish Paradise. Coolio refused and Weird Al did it anyway :D

Mostly true.

Coolio’s reps at the record company mistakenly told Weird Al that it was OK, so Weird Al did it.

Coolio was upset when he found out, though Weird Al pays him royalties for the song.

That is an absolute shame!  I mean that sincerely.

I thought parodies were protected by fair use laws.

They are, but Weird Al still seeks permission from the artists.

he famously was refused by Prince, for example.
