If I remember correctly, many of the South Side faithful gave Frank a standing ovation every at bat.....with less people standing after each home run ?

I stood and cheered for each one.

Doesn’t Jerry absolutely loath the Astros? I hope Jerry gets the shits the rest of this night because he’s so upset he signed with them.

  • Good for Jose Abreu. I'm very glad that the White Sox didn't give him a 3 year deal though.

  • Which happened because the people that built the roster aren't good at their paid profession.  Any way you slice it, the Sox are supposed to be smack dab in the middle of their "World Series Wind

Not a popular opinion here...but Vaughn will outplay him by a decent clip over the next 3 years. Sad to see him go...but you HAVE to play your farm guys when they are ready. No more Vaughn in the outf

He’s gonna hit 42 bombs next year.

I think we could see about 80 XBH's in Houston more than anything.

3 years seems crazy. He'll be like 48 years old.

He'll be 39.

Was going to say. The short porch in LF should help him out there. This move makes sense for the Astros.

Rick Hahn is having a really bad day.

Good for Jose. Deserves to be in a best in class org that prioritizes winning.

They prioritize winning...the "class" part is debatable.

The Astros are gonna get him to pull the ball in the air more and he's gonna hit a bunch of homers into the Crawford boxes.

Yup

me thinks the timing of this = more or less abreu having this offer in hand w/ astros for a bit and waiting on the sox to make their final decision.

not saying it was right or wrong decision to let abreu walk ... i see both sides. But ... clearly this team is going to be worse without him.

Whys that? I’m sure he told Abreu they weren’t resigning him.

I wish the shits on no man...except maybe Jose Altuve....and Aroldis Chapman...and Josh Donaldson....oh never mind this list could get quite long.

Good for him time to move on.

Why is Harold acting shocked that the Sox didn't bring back Abreu? Everyone who has watched 10 minutes of baseball in the last 5 years in Chicago knew that Abreu was gone. This wasn't a question.

Ugh, we are going to regret this.

Unless someone was willing to trade for Eloy or Vaughn and massively overpay, we would have regretted bringing him back, so I think it's one of those things that was really a lose/lose proposition.

No one seems to agree with me but something transpired between the Sox and Jose prior to spring training last year.  He was not even close to the same person in 2022.

No clue what it was, but I'm guessing it was bad.

One I don't think he was made welcome for a further extension. Two the rest of the core in his wing was foundering. Three the prospects for winning seemed to turn into losing. Four might have been the manager.  add:   Five would be climate.

I love it.

God bless him.

And what a master middle finger to CWS Ownership and Management.

Yikes.  Losing Abreu is an enormous step backwards.

Should've dealt Vaughn 2 years ago if they could get something decent. I feel like they pencilled Vaughn in as franchise 1B the day they drafted him

No chance the Sox were coming close to 3/$60 million for Jose given the state of the roster

Happy he got paid, but sucks to see him go to Houston

Ehh. I think they were honest with him.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see Jose simply was not a fit for this roster moving forward.

Correct because this organization  is light years  from another trip to the World Series unless some well-heeled oligarch-sportsmen come in and relieve us of the 40 plus year Reign of Reinsdorf.

$20 million per year seems like a great deal for Jose, and not a bad deal for the Astros.  The last year might be rough, but they have the money.

There was no way the Sox were going to give him a deal like this.

Remember when people thought the Sox overpaid at 3 years $50M? Three years later and people now think 3 years $60M is a good deal for Houston lol

Happy for Jose but signing him to that deal wouldn’t make sense for us.  Still need to add a quality LH outfield to offset some of the production he provided last year.
