I actually think they will fire him.

Isn't that going to make Getz look untruthful?

Or he's just going to later say some gobbledygook about just trying to get through the front office transition...continuity or stability were most important in that moment for the major league roster to focus on....preparing for 2024, blah blah blah?

Or like the dreaded vote of confidence for football and basketball coaches in mid-season?

The Chris Getz White Sox refuse to not lose.

They staked a 6-0 lead with Dylan Cease on the mound, then watched the Royals bleed it dry over the final seven innings. Gregory Santos allowed Bobby Witt Jr. to tie it with a one-out double, and although he got Salvador Perez to line out to short with the winning run on third, Santos then balked in the winning run for no good reason.

The White Sox are now 0-5 since Chris Getz was named White Sox general manager, and it’s only getting funnier.

I wouldn't have thought it possible a month ago.

Chris Getz and Pedro Grifol will be here in 2024 as long as Jerry is owner not because they have any qualifications or arguments to remain in their current positions, or even to have been hired in the first place.

Chris Getz and Pedro Grifol will return for one primary reason.

People Jerry has to pay:

(EVP & SVPs/GMs + Managers) *

  • 2021 - Two Managers (RR & TLR)
  • 2023 - Two Managers (TLR & PG) & Two SVPs/GMs (RH & CG)
  • 2024 - Two SVPs/GMs (RH & CG) #

Note * - Includes pro-rated replacements + permanent hires. Does not include the EVP position, not because it’s not needed if filled by a competent baseball person, but not filled because Jerry is Cheap & Baseball Stupid.

Note # - Could change if RH gets a job for the 2024 season.

I'm sensing desperation for one last shot at glory. Legacy slightly over money.

Even the players knew the franchise stopped trying.

They have to know it, because we fans know it. We needed change and got the same old thing. On owner set in his ways and in complete denial. Meanwhile, Cease continues to implode as does Kopech. Does this team even have a rotation?

I guess I would feel that a younger player would still be excited to improve their game. But it does seem like the team is just  on a downward spiral. Getz has a lot of work to do in the off-season.

Jerry actually caring about his on field legacy success would result in hiring the best qualified and experienced people with proven track records of success. A feasible alternative would be someone with proven success as a number 2 or 3 in a sustained exceptional front office.

Jerry continues to hire the least qualified, least experienced, least expensive people hoping he can sell September carrots at some point before he passes. Jerry is smarter than his 29 "competitors", really just needs someone to execute the paperwork on his brilliant decisions and philosophy or not paying free agents, not paying scouts, not paying analysts, not paying for player development, selling international slot money,

This is Jerry's legacy, plus destroying the 1994 season in his epic failure to break the MLBPA.

“Everybody talks about when you build a building, the foundation comes first,” he added. “We’ve got a foundation here. We’re not going to take the guys that we have now and clean out and start over again. We’re definitely not going to do that.”

- Jerry Reinsdorf - August 31, 2023 - Another day which will live in White Sox Infamy.

Team Blown Saves Save Opportunities

54% failure rate...once upon a time, elite closers use to be at 90% or at least 85%.

Obviously the team blown saves encompasses a lot of other crappy relievers...although we did have the most expensive bullpen in baseball until the trade deadline at least.  Of course, Hendriks being out hasn't helped matters.

If Hendriks is himself, he saves 20 of those blown saves and the Sox win those games.  Where does that put the team's record under Grifol?  At least you mentioned him which correctly places the blame for 20 or so losses.  Not that I think Grifol is any good, but the bullpen is making him look bad, not the other way around.

Well here's the problem. The White Sox's 46% save conversion rate is really quite bad, but if they saved 20 of those games, that would be EXCEPTIONAL. Right now, the top save percentage in MLB is the Red Sox, who have saved 40 of 53 for a 75% clip. If the White Sox actually saved 43 of 50 games, they would be converting saves at an 86% clip, vastly better than any other team in baseball. Last year, with Hendriks most of the year, they saved 48/71 - their bullpen outperformed a lot, and they converted at a 67% clip. You're not just talking about Hendriks there, you're talking about Hendricks being as good as he's ever been and also everyone in the bullpen being absolutely excellent.
