He was one of the biggest failures of the rebuild. He was supposed to be a superstar Frontline starter. Instead he failed at that, then failed at relieving, even revealing that he refused to listen to coaching. I couldn't care less about the rest of it. I won't ever root for the guy.

August 29, 20241 yr We totally fleeced the Cardinals! I can't wait to see the young talent we got from St. Louis develop!

3 hours ago3 hr What a great thread. Props to anyone who wants to chime in and call themselves out here.
2 hours ago2 hr I'm not sure there were many who liked this trade when it happened. The reaction got worse and worse as Vargas struggled on a VERY bad Sox team. The clip of him sitting in the corner of the dugout with a look of absolute despair mimicked what we were feeling. Now that clip is used in the "how it started...how it's going" videos. Talk about an incredible turnaround. Turned out to be a pretty good trade.
2 hours ago2 hr Obviously all of my opinions ruled but it’s fun to read just to again be impressed that Getz actually did the impossible thing I didn’t think he could do in this thread - he improved our player development and scouting decisions.Everyone’s opinions are understandable when you remember the learned helplessness we were in where we knew we had to get a player already good because they would only get worse on our team.no zealot like a convert - and I’ve never been more of a believer in a gm than I am or Getz right now.

1 hour ago1 hr I was suspended at the 2024 deadline, so I wasn't able to comment. That being said, my views were that Vargas was a great acquisition, Fedde was smoke and mirrors, and Kopech was a head case who wouldn't amount to much beyond that season. I felt we needed to have patience for Perez and Albertus. Hate to say I told you so...
1 hour ago1 hr Will go down as one of the great trades in White Sox history. And we got Fedde back and he has been a contributor this year. IMO, Vargas has been the first half AL MVP.
52 minutes ago52 min I think Vargas, beyond his play on the field, has been a huge addition. He's a leader, everyone seems to love him, and his attitude is contagious. He and Mune have really seemed to hit it off. Add that to his team MVP play, and he's one of the best acquisitions in a long time.

His league-adjusted AAA stats have been fantastic. I've been around long enough to know that this is no promise of MLB production, but his sub-MLB track record is what it is: very strong.@bmagsOn 7/29/2024 at 2:58 PM, bmags said:I don’t know. I kinda like Vargas. @ChisoxfnOn 7/29/2024 at 3:19 PM, Chisoxfn said:I like Vargas - he's got real upside as a hitter and I think worse case he plays in the outfield....but that isn't thrilling. On 7/29/2024 at 5:10 PM, Chisoxfn said:I think I saw he isn't a free agent until 2030 - so I think the bright side here is - this is a guy who is going to be around for a while, presuming he can figure out big league pitching. If he can hit like he did in the minors, than I think there is something legit there bat wise. Supposedly he was making some progress this season - my Dodger buddies were a fan of his. @PaleAleSoxOn 7/29/2024 at 6:14 PM, PaleAleSox said:I mean Vargas has just as much of a chance to be a legit offensive piece as anyone else they would have gotten probably. And no, I'm not defending the trade. @ChiSoxFanMikeOn 7/29/2024 at 6:15 PM, ChiSoxFanMike said:Am I the only one who doesn’t hate this?I thought it felt light too. But Vargas is essentially a top 100 prospect. I would have taken him for Fedde all day long when they initially signed him. Kopech and Pham don’t have a ton of value to me so I guess I can live with two lotto tickets for them. I would have liked another prospect or two but I don’t think like this is as bad as everyone else is saying. @Y2Jimmy0On 7/29/2024 at 7:11 PM, Y2Jimmy0 said:Like taking a chance on Vargas. Really like both young bats. Those are the types of bats available in this market. The trade still seems at least one player short though. I thought Fedde had more value. @greg775On 7/30/2024 at 1:43 AM, greg775 said:Vargas highlight reels look good by the way. Since Pham is just another guy and Kopech nothing special, and Fedde a nice reclamation project gone good (could go bad any time) that trade might be OK. Vargas might be what Moncada wanted to be. He's young and looks good in a uniform. Getz called him one of the brightest young bats in the game. This trade might be OK cause those guys the Sox gave up were nothing to lose sleep over. Sox are due to have a prospect excel. Maybe Vargas will be the answer in the corner outfield. You guys get to claim OG status of "Miguel Vargas Fan Club" Sorry if I missed anyone, skimming through quickly between work calls.
