And Merrifield is a complicated decision for KC front office, as he’s an important aspect of that offense. You trade him, you need yet another replacement. It sure seems like there are no position players going for "big time returns" this year, so if you're basically out of the race, you either hold guys or you take the best you can get. He's a good pick up. I think the power surge is a result of a change in approach but he's also probably getting some luck. His HR/FB% is the highest of his career the same year he has this highest FB% so it makes sense why he's having the best power season of his career. I think it's realisitic to expect him to hit for more power than his historical norms but I wouldn't expect him to continue to hit for power at the same rate as he has this year. That said, I don't know that his BABIP will regress to historical norms with this change in approach in mind. In any case, this is a guy with a .350 OBP since becoming a regular in the league. I mean I would rather be on the Sox side of this deal for sure, but typically if Cleveland is dealing in recent years, the motivation is to save money. They’re in a tough spot. If they deal Bieber, Ramirez and Karinchak, they lose Francona in all likelihood.
