Excellent post and may I add that I trust KW and Hahn about as far as I can throw them in seeing a successful rebuild to where the Sox are yearly contenders for many years. The franchise needed entirely new blood in the Front Office much like the Cubs did when they brought in Theo. I'm 72 and probably don't have many rebuilds left on the horizon so I hoping the current one works but I'm not holding my breath

Hey KW and Hahn, White Sox Nation has been patient for quite some time. If my math checks out, it has almost been a decade since this team has been in the postseason. During that time we have seen you waste high draft picks consistently, have one of your international scouts get into a nasty scandal, hire a beloved former player who never had the chops to be manager, sign a bunch of washed up FA busts, and start a mini-rebuild only to abruptly change course. Let's not forget about the Laroche daycare saga and the Chris Sale tailor gone wild incident. You guys drove this franchise into a ditch. It is a shame that JR didn't hire someone else to pull the franchise out of the hole. The early returns on your big blockbuster trades aren't looking so hot and the injury bug has reared its ugly head on many top prospects. Now we are hearing that maybe 2020 is a bit too optimistic and that fans should be looking further out. You guys are already kicking the rebuild can down the road it appears. That is quite a shame. Some fans may have the patience to sit through 4 or 5 years of garbage baseball. However, most will probably not and will turn their attention elsewhere. Let's supplement the young core of prospects that you believe so much in with a superstar or two. The FA class will be very ripe the next two years. Make it happen guys as Sox fans are tired of the excuses.

Dear Soxtalk: I fear this war will tear us apart more than we already are. I was forced into the Clinton Battalion, and they march us daily through horrible conditions lacking wifi and gluten-free cheese, but it is all worth the cause and all of the medical marijuana we can smoke. yeah. Broken record from me at this point, but this time last year the phillies were going through same crisis. Everything seemed to be regressing. Then Rhys show came in august and they had a nice ending, signed Arrietta, their pitchers got healthier and it's all good. (They also replaced their manager).

This is starting to become conventional wisdom, but I don't think it's that iron-clad. There's this perception out there that when you are rebuilding, you shouldn't sign any FA. If there's a good player available and you like him and his price is fair, get him. It's part of building your team. There are factors to consider (losing a draft pick to sign a player with a QO, signing someone over 35, overlapping someone on the major league roster), but there's also a risk of being too cute and passing on a fair deal for a good player to be left with worse options the following year. Harper and Machado are pipedreams, and that's fine. But guys like Pollock, Corbin, Richards, Donaldson and Keuchel could all make varying degrees of sense for the Sox in the right situation. Unless the Sox are so zeroed in on a guy like Arenado, Rendon or Goldschmidt in the following year's class, I hop the Sox walk away with something this winter. (That said, if the price tag on any of those guys exceeds what value you think they'd bring, then it's an easy pass.)

The Braves spent 4 seasons under .500, including 3 straight years of 90 or more losses. The Phillies were below .500 for every season between 2013 and 2017, with at least 89 losses in all of them, but 90 or more losses for three straight years. Your premise is wrong.

Here’s the way I see it. The infield is going to get super crowded in the next couple years. Madrigal should move fast and should be ready by the start of 2020. At that point Yolmer becomes a super-utility guy which is valuable, but will likely not be our most pressing need at that time. He’s also going to be much more expensive by then. That doesn’t mean we should automatically dump him, but if there is a team that sees him as a young, versatile 3 WAR infielder with three years of control and is willing to pay for him as such, we’d be crazy not to consider it. Ultimately anything we can get for Yolmer can be used as part of a package to add a cost-controlled impact talent. Again, I really like Yolmer, but selling high on him at this point in the rebuild represents better utilization of our assets IMO.

Guys I’m Definitely Moving Joakim Soria James Shields Guys I Would Like to Move Luis Avilan Xavier Cedeno Guys I Would Listen On Jose Abreu Avi Garcia Leury Garcia Yolmer Sanchez Nate Jones I think the above is pretty straight forward. Soria & Shields will both be free agents after the season, so they gotta go. Soria should actually have some value, whereas I’d like to move Shields simply to open up a spot for Stephens. In a perfect world, I’d deal both Avilan & Cedeno, but I wouldn’t just give them away as both pretty solid left-handed relievers that are controllable for another 1 to 2 seasons. Got to get something of value for them. The guys I would listen on are more interesting. Nate Jones is the outlier of the group, as he’s only here because his value is at an all-time low and he’s cheap enough to roll the dice on in 2019. As for the four positional guys, all of them would be on the table, but I’d have to get quality offers to move them. If not, they can all be key parts of the 2019 roster as far as I’m concerned. For some reason though, I feel like Yolmer is the guy that teams will have the most interest. The fact he is 26, controllable for three more seasons, and can play anywhere in the infield should be of great value to a contender. I could see Milwaukee being a team with a lot of interest.
