I love getting these type of posts sent to me.... Holy hell. Relax man, the internet is a big place, there's a reason I don't sit on jezebel all day. This is absolutely not true. Dave gets quite a bit of solid info regularly. He's a fan though and knows Rick Hahn. He straddles that line and doesn't want to legitimately hurt the team by reporting info at times.

Disagree. Every option available for RF is flawed in some way. Adding Ozuna's bat to the lineup is a massive plus. Sure his defense is absolutely suspect out there (and he's not my top choice to put in RF) but if it prevents me from watching the Palka's, Cordell's, and Tilson's of the world - I can be happy with it.

I think people are seemingly forgetting who Castellanos agent is. I don’t think the Sox want to do business with him.

Maybe their interest in Ozuna is as a replacement for Eloy if they trade him for a young stud pitcher.

To be fair what’s to gain from throwing names out there? I’m just as anxious as the next person but we saw what happened last offseason when there was info on the Joc Pederson deal out there. I was shocked looking at Ozuna's statcast metrics from last season. Obviously every team in baseball is aware of these numbers and most factor them into long-term projections, but if he actually hit to the level xWOBA says he deserved Ozuna would probably be in the ~25M AAV range. Seems like there's still upside in his bat. My opinion on him as a hitter definitely went up after seeing those. Hahn’s history is buying asymmetric players. He typically buys guys who have exceeded their average, and sells players likely to have a positive tail. He’d be the guy trading with Bill Belichick in the NFL. No confidence in him whatsoever trading for an established pitcher.

It is such a Sox move to give assets up for a player rather than signing one. I don't trust the Sox in this process.

I would prefer that the Sox use its resources on pitching. They can get by in RF with what they have. They cannot get by with this pitching staff or anything close to it. They need 2 starters and 2 relievers.

Why is plan B not Strasburg? 5/$150 should get it done and isn't much more than the 5/$125 they offered Wheeler. Get the ace.

A wise man said "our best chance to get an ace may be to develop one". Okay this has been talked about in several threads so I was kinda putting my thoughts into one. Hope others in the med fields add to it especially if they have experience. I joked in a thread we should use our recovery blueprint as a selling point to guys like Taijuan Walker due to our rash of TJ injuries but in reality if we do rehab well it really would be a selling point. I know in the past our shoulder program was considered very good. Anyway to begin Hahn has pretty much stated Kopech has recovered well but will still have overall limits on his work load this coming season. First and foremost it would absolutely suck to be in contention late in the year and have to shut down our pitchers when we need them most. Cease is further out from his TJ but has never gone beyond the 141 IP of last year so he will have limits as well. Rodon, Dunning, Lambert will not even be ready at the start of the year and need close monitoring. Burdi who knows. Anyway with specifics for Kopech, not having him start the year with the big club could allow you to regain a year of control while easing/protecting him. I would do it for control but also as a way to potentially have him at the end of the year. I would put him at Birmingham if he is having any issues as Andrews is right there or Charlotte depending on early season travel and expected weather conditions. I would envision a 3-4-5 innings or 60-80-100 pitch max for him. I want to occasionally extend him so he uses his secondary/tertiary pitches more plus in the minors you can do that better without worrying about game outcomes as much. If you are doing pitch counts, you indirectly encourage him to be more efficient and use fewer pitches per inning, a problem young pitchers often have (Lopez). If his average is around 4 innings and about 30 starts you are at 120 innings. I would anticipate his max being 120-150 so you could keep him going later in the year if you are contending or let him pitch longer if his limit allows and you know there aren't going to have playoff starts. It would require a piggy back pitcher which isn't a problem in the minors and with modern pitching theory could be done in the majors. I had paired him with Gio Gonzalez in my previous plan as Gio tends to wear down so Gio would start early in the year and then piggy back after/when Kopech comes up if the staff condition at the time allows. It could benefit each of them. Kopech's heat followed by soft lefty may make an interesting contrast. Protecting our assets by such usage would also show other FA pitchers that we are actively concerned about their recoveries and obviously you would want to modify this if their is a better process. I had considered 10 three inning starts 10 at four and then 10 at five but I want pitch usage and occasional stretching out with a little more recovery time though admittedly I don't have evidence to back it up. If anyone does please add.

Like you...my first choice would have been Joc Pederson. Irrationally I don't want to give up anything to get him. I value defense more than some I guess. A noodle arm in RF scares me. All that said...I too am warming to the concept of Ozuna. Our lineup with Ozuna looks menacing.

I'd rather have Ozuna than Castellanos, for the following reasons: 1) Ozuna has been a better hitter, against RH pitching, than Castellanos, . I'd prefer a LH hitter, but if not, at least he should be really good vs. RH pitching. 2) He is a better defender. As we've all recognised, Eloy in LF means that the right fielder should not be another negative defender. 3) I assume that he will cost a little less than Castellanos. My greatest reservation is concern over how complete his recovery has been, since his shoulder surgery. If it won't continue to affect his arm, which is a big part of a right fielder's defense, he should be a more than adequate defensive right fielder.
