The minor league season was scheduled to start on April 9th. That's also pushed back. Service time issues are interesting now. It could benefit the club with a guy like Nick Madrigal and hurt the club in Kopech's case. If they start the season around May 15th (that might be conservative at this point), Kopech should come up soon after. The year likely stays burned regardless. 1 full year of service is 172 days and this season likely won't even encompass that at this rate. They could probably start Madrigal right away and he wouldn't accrue a year under current CBA. I wonder if changes are coming somehow.

As long as our president keeps saying everything is fine and we are in control of it, there are a significant number of people who will not stay home when sick yet alone quarantine themselves for a week. The irresponsibility of his comments is dangerous.

No the people who put this together are just idiots. Everyone who is sick should be tested, I don't care if it's just a cold. If handled correctly, people panicking and running in for a test will keep people alive. You need appropriate safety equipment among the first responders. The worst that happens is you find out you have a cold and you are happy with the result. If the test takes 8-48 hours, getting the results before people reach the worst part of the symptoms will save lives.

Social media controls all of our information and is in our face 24 hours a day in the palm of our hands. Allowing you and the other herds of the masses to be totally sucked into this "PANIC! PANIC! For all that Italy has had about 800 deaths out of 60 million people. That's horrible and as such needs preventative measures and mitigation, but it still amazes me that the response to that is to flat shut down society. Also, and I hate to go here, but the writer claims training only in political and moral philosophy, and with a byline as an advisor of "Protect Democracy". I just wonder about the objectivity. Again, the manifold response means there IS something to all this IMO. It just doesn't feel like I am aware of whatever gravity is out there.

This is so surreal. This virus has killed but 37 people in the US and 4700 out of 8 billion worldwide, most of those in a country where new cases have leveled off. Because of that society is literally going on haitus before our eyes. The 9-11 aftermath wasn't even like this. I am not saying the panic is or isn't warranted, because its very real. We should have had a national policy in place at least a month ago that would have mandated the closing of all K-12, Universities, professional and college sports, and events requiring large gatherings of people. This is 50% of the reason Italy is facing a catastrophic crisis now...not taking things seriously until it was too late. IMO we will be lucky to have opening day by June 1st if we don't make drastic changes soon. Since we won't have baseball for a while anyway, MLBPA should just go ahead and start negotiating the new CBA now. They can pretend to be on strike.

Do you have a laptop already so you would be able to work remotely if this happens? My office being shut down until the 30th now, we have a new temp starting but we don't know when as we don't know when he/she will be able to get a laptop. I see what you’re saying. Maybe we just don’t know yet, as a world? Countries are struggling just to test and take care of the sick, but are they really focusing on testing the whole population? So South Korea is an interesting counterpoint to my hypothesis- testing 20,000 per day, and now over 200,000 total tested, but yet only having 7-8000 total cases. Is it possible the asymptomatic don’t carry enough load to trigger a positive? I’m just really struggling to explain how the whole San Antonio and AUSTIN metropolitan areas, containing millions and millions of people within an hour or so radius, giant international tech, recreation & convention destinations, huge international hubs....has zero cases still.

Some perspective, on Thursday the US had as many confirmed cases as Italy had last Sunday. The US population is 5 times that of Italy. Will it go up 5 times the amount it did there? Hope not, but probably. Still only 11k had been tested in the US. The gutting of the CDC turned out not to be a very bright move. The lack of tests is appalling. The travel ban means nothing. It’s for show anyway. If the President has a golf course in your country, that country is exempt. The cat is out of the bag.

I’ve never been one to shout from the top of the hills about term limits...but I’m getting there. The flip side, of course...is no more FDR’s, either. The physician for Congress and the Supreme Court said 80 to 150 million people in the US will likely get infected. If we take that low number and apply a 1% fatality rate, which I need to stress the stated fatality rate could be higher (if we go by diagnosed cases divided by death) or lower, we get 800,000 dead in the US. That would have a catastrophic butterfly effect on the healthcare system and the US as a whole.

I think the elderly are going to be smart and hunker down for a while. In the US it’s not as customary for generations to live under the same house, so generally the elderly are isolated pretty well to their communities. I think with how spread out our country is, if the elderly wait it out pretty smartly for a few months or whatever, you’ll probably see the lowest death rates in the US. With all the food and resource delivery we have, I think we’ll be all right.
