The White Sox are not in a position to punt Vaughn's development in order to give Jake Lamb, Brian Goodwin or Leury Garcia at bats. Those guys are all who they are - below average players who are lucky to have MLB jobs right now. Andrew Vaughn is a consensus top 15-20 prospect in the game who is widely considered to have the potential to be an elite MLB hitter. IS he right now? No. Will be be buy August 2021? Probably not. But we already know who Lamb, Goodwin and Garcia are and it isn't pretty. Vaughn has enormous upside, especially as a LF/RF. I also don't think playing any of those guys over Vaughn puts the Sox in a better position to win now. If Eloy, Engel and Luis were healthy - I'd have no problem sending AV to AAA to get a year of control back and let him get his swing hitting bombs in a bandbox. But we just simply don't have that luxury at this stage, and I am dumbfounded that some posters (frankly just a couple) can't wrap their head around that. There are no better options than Vaughn in LF right now.5 points

Not the first time you've said this...explain to me how a 23 year old guy with 55 MILB games under his belt that is currently mashing LHP, in the process of learning 2 new positions and being exposed to/learning the best pitchers on the planet, and more importantly those in the League he will eventually and currently compete against on a daily basis has the ability to turn off his development switch. Like wtf does that even mean? You should say what you really mean, he hasn't shown incremental month over month growth against RHP that you find to be satisfactory enough to demand a lineup slot on a team that currently sends Yermin Mercedes to the dish in the 5 hole on a nightly basis. Get over it, Andrew stays.4 points

Vaughn is as bad as it gets against RHP but at least there is upside because he is considered one of the most talented hitting prospects. With leury, nick Williams, Hamilton etc there is just no upside, a 90 wrc+ probably is the high end and more likely 70-80. With Vaughn he could figure it out and be decent against RHP and spectacular against LHP. Also he needs at bats and is too young and talented to be a platoon, either you play him at least 5 times a week or you send him down.4 points

Adam Engel was on the team for a week and is 2nd on the team in homers for June. That's a perfect summary of the offense this month.3 points

He’s going to have to make some significant adjustments at the plate. It’s really pathetic how much development they wasted with him and Crochet, all because they were too freaking cheap.3 points

Yes, surely those 21 AB's in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spot in the lineup are VERY telling.3 points

This team just called up Luis Gonzalez and is currently without their #1,#2,#3,#4, and #7 OFs on their depth chart and you want to send Vaughn down? Its obvious he's struggled against RHP - no denying that. But he's the LF, and due to all these injuries, its just the way its going to be. Vaughn learning to hit RHP at this level and continuing to mash LHP is far better than demoting him. Is it ideal? Nah. But such is life when the team is this banged up.3 points
-
I am never taking at bats away from Vaughn for the likes at Good, Leury or Lamb. Ever.3 points
-
I'd say Vaughn developing against RHP is right up there in terms of long-term importance for this club. Plus, with the current state of this OF, we're a LONG WAY away from Vaughn not being one of the best 2 options in the OF corners.3 points
-
Well now without Engel, are you giving Gonzalez at bats over Vaughn?3 points
-
Then the other option really is a white flag on the season, which a team with a decent lead in the division shouldn't do. This kind of gaping hole, where you're playing true AA and AAA players in several positions, will eventually cost the white sox the division if they don't at least plug it partially.3 points

Why does Grandal have to bat 6th? He should be batting 2nd against lefties so we actually have some runners on base for the other two guys capable of hitting a HR.2 points

There is no logical reason to believe this but I have a weird feeling that we're going to have a breakthrough inning here.2 points

this team is terrible without steve stone I've decided2 points

Weird anti-Grandal vibes here that are pretty funny. You can't hit a guy with a 385 OBP at the top of the order. Odd stuff all around. So Giolito is such a pussy he can't tell Grandal what he wants to throw? Sad!2 points

Leury Garcia has atrocious numbers vs righties WITH a .344 BABIP. Vaughn has bad numbers vs righties with a BABIP 60-70 points (236) under where it should sit. Vaughn is the obvious choice in LF over Leury Garcia. Edit: I'm not ready to draw conclusions on Vaughn vs righties after 124 AB's. I KNOW Leury sucks vs righties based on his entire career. Vaughn has been clutch and shown flashes, Leury just gives me flashes of pain.2 points

Thanks for the support but apparently judging by the ever popular emoji's there are a lot more people who believe Vaughn's development is far more important than winning now. Our minor difference of opinion between sending him down or keep playing him against LHP is also based on winning now because I don't want the lineup to just "manage" against LHP . Every win is important to winning now even against LHP. The difference between getting home field advantage could be just 1 game in the standings and I don't like taking our best hitter against LHP out of the lineup or getting the chance to pinch hit in big situations against LHP.2 points

Andrew Vaughn has been nearly a league average hitter (wRC+ of 98) But he needs to be demoted when the Sox have no outfielders on their roster and he's been more than adequate in LF. Holy moly, talk about some logical thinkers here at Soxtalk!2 points
-
It seems like you feel that Andrew Vaughn will never improve, which I can't disagree with enough. He's a rookie going through rookie growth pains. Maybe a Jake Lamb is a better option today, but Andrew Vaughn is going to be a professional hitter for a long time at the major league level. If he had been able to play OF when he was drafted, he may well have been a 1-1 candidate. You given Andrew Vaughn all of the ABs you can because unlike Jake Lamb, the kid has major upside. Heck there is even a real chance that Vaughn is a better hitter by the end of this season, let alone the next 10 years.2 points

I think this lineup can manage against LHP [i.e. the small ~25-ish% of MLB pitchers] without Vaughn. Against the MAJORITY ~75-ish% RHP, he's fucking killing this team. And with every injury, he's killing the team more. I'd take my chances with other players NOW, in the hope that he can go to Charlotte and un-fuck his swing in time to help when rosters expand this fall. Vaughns Splits Looking at this, he's not only taking a giant shit on this lineup vs. RHP, Andrew Vaughn is getting worse at hitting as this season has gone on: March/April: wrc+ 110 May: wrc+ 102 June: wrc+ 80 And once again, his wrc+ vs RHP is a shitty 38. He is ACTIVELY hurting this lineup. He's getting BURIED at the plate, while wasting his controllable years. IDGAF how good he will do "someday." This is a WIN NOW season, and with every injury, every guy in the active roster has to pull MORE weight, not less. MLB SPs have him figured out, and he's not learning anything here. There is no shame in admitting that this team asked him to do the impossible. His day will come soon enough, but it ain't today. Vaughn needs to go down, so that he can stop hurting this team, AND maybe he can get his shit sorted in time to come back up to help this team. RIGHT NOW, Goodwin, Leury, and Lamb are all better choices than Vaughn is right now, at least vs RHP. Platooning him isn't an answer, and neither is letting him continue to circle the drain while this team struggles.2 points

A doctor famous enough to sell books is probably not a good sample for doctors in general and a governor is a politician so definitely not. If you have questions about conflicting information that you are hearing, the most trustworthy people you can talk to are doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists at your local hospital. If you don't know any personally, talk to your friends to see who they know and see if you can talk to them. They can tell you exactly what COVID is doing to people and how the vaccine is helping. They learn a lot in the process of their jobs and the best ones learn a lot more on their own. As someone who lives with a mother who is a nurse, I can tell you this. I never heard her discuss politics before COVID, but in the last 15 months, I've lost count of the times I've heard her upset, sometimes to the point of tears, at the volume of lies being told about COVID by people who are Trump supporters.2 points

I meant everyone on Soxtalk not just you. I never see anyone say OK I changed my mind you convinced me with your super longs posts about any particular subject. Early in the year I suggested Nick Williams be given a chance in like a couple of starts over Vaughn. Didn't even suggest he play a lot but just given a chance. I was lambasted in every way possible. Where are all those people now when Vaughn has a wRC+ of 38 against RHP ? Even now people still want Vaughn to play every day. And every time I bring it up all I get is "not this again" ! and laugh emoji's as if I have no right to bring up how so many wanted to humiliate me for having the gall to suggest Vaughn might not be all that against RHP so early in the season when Vaughn fever was at an All-time high. Now there is no legitimate argument to play Vaughn against RHP and many more posters here have come to realize that but people still want to be petty about it. It takes a big man to say what you said when the internet emboldens people to be dicks as much as they want to be. I want to win the World Series and I want the best players possible to play as much as possible against RHP and LHP. Vaughn might be the best player on the Sox against LHP but against RHP for now he's among the worst.2 points

Those are all just nonsense allegations from some guy selling a book. I mean, vibrating Band-Aids? C’mon. P.S., Codebreaker was simply a computer program that would crack the catcher’s signs. Every team in the league had a guy in the back doing it by hand. They would watch the catcher and try to figure out the signs and relay it to the rest of the team so that when they got a runner on second, the runner could alert the batter. Every team in the league does this. The only difference is that the Astros had the help of a computer program to crack the signs instead of just a guy figuring it out on his own. It had nothing to do with the trash can banging in 2017.2 points
