The "He Gets us" campaign is funded by an organization that includes the Hobby Lobby ownership (heavily lobbied to get the Supreme Court to rule against contraceptive coverage), has donated to a church whose website states "“all people who do not have faith in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in hell,” and to another group that has been labeled as an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group.4 points

When you are old the passing of time is different. Royals were a hell of a team in the 80s when Jerry last paid attention to baseball.4 points

Remember when the thought process behind not pursuing Castellanos was that he wasn't good defensively so we should avoid him. Then we played Gavin Sheets in right field.3 points

My son did exactly this in a little league playoff game I was coaching last year. He hit a three-run homer oppo to right field where it landed clearly fair. But no line out there and no fences in a public park, so the other coach -- a d-bag who'd been whining and screaming all game -- screamed and lobbied the ump to call it foul. Which he did--while my son was rounding third getting ready to celebrate with his teammates. He had to go back to the plate with his teammates all still yelling and apoplectic that they'd had three runs taken off the board. Next pitch he put one in basically the same place, maybe a few feet further in from the "foul line." He stared down the ump as he crossed home plate, which I scolded him never to do again, but it was secretly my proudest moment ? Thanks for indulging my anonymous brag.3 points

Bruce Levine is very good friends with Gene Watson. It's very likely true. The White Sox are fucking idiots. Salvy Perez can't really catch anymore and he posted an 86 wRC+ last year with -0.3 fWAR. This whole thing is absurd.3 points

Fans are fans. I'm sure they are thrilled with Jose now. Mr. October indeed. He still had 90 RBI in the regular season. Hit .237. They shouldn't care about a stat like batting average which means nothing. He drew 42 walks. 130 strikeouts is high but not in 2023, Go Jose, keep it up in postseason sir!2 points

Cease's "such a bad season" was still worth 3.7 fWAR (9th among AL SP) with 214 Ks (5th in AL). Cease took a solid step in the wrong direction in 2023, but this is still a top shelf SP with 2 years of arb control (MLBTR estimate for 24 of $8.8M). Cease's value is still tremendous; it definitely depends one one's definition of "top prospects" but Cease most certainly can still return a top 30 type centerpiece and a backhalf top 100 piece, IMO. That being said, I do think the Sox will hold Cease and see what 2024 brings, and move him at the TDL if need be.2 points

I know all fan bases are generally pretty insufferable by nature, but Braves fans have gone next level this postseason with the bye sob stories and reaction to the Arcia stuff. Hope Philly smokes them again tonight.2 points

These supposedly smart people are totally fine with the baseball version of Jim Boylen managing the club in 2024. It’s a disaster2 points

Bryce Harper at $25M a year looks pretty damn good right now compared to *maybe* paying Sal Perez $21M a year. Makes no sense they didn’t pursue him harder that one off-season. Was a better fit than Machado. Sigh.2 points

Solid take in terms of current strengths and weaknesses and what it will take for things to improve substantially in 2024. 'https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/10/offseason-outlook-chicago-white-sox-13.html Noted external 2024 player options: C: Victor Caratini or Tom Murphy. 2B: Adam Frazier, Jonathan India, Gleyber Torres, Brandon Drury, or Whit Merrifield (based on a team "oddly obsessed with the Royals"). SS If Anderson Option Declined: Amed Rosario. 3B If Moncada Moved: Gio Urshela, Jeimer Candelario or possible Bryan Ramos promotion. RF: Teoscar Hernandez or bargain bin selections Hunter Renfroe or Jason Heyward as upgrades over current options. SP Potentially out of price range: Sonny Gray, Eduardo Rodriguez and Shota Imanaga. SP Possibilities: Seth Lugo, Kenta Maeda, Michael Wacha, Michael Lorenzen. SP Bounceback cases: Frankie Montas, Kyle Gibson, Jack Flaherty, James Paxton, Luis Severino. RP: Reynaldo Lopez, Robert Stephenson, Joe Jimenez, Jordan Hicks. Clevinger Conclusion1 point

But like in what bizarro, non-Euclidean universe could any semi-literate person come to the conclusion that the White Sox could afford to trade starting pitching from their MLB roster going into 2024? Like, I know I've been beating the ever-loving s*** out of the "Sox don't have enough pitching depth" drum since, it feels like maybe since I was born at this point, but there are literally two starting pitchers on the 40-man right now other than Cease. The rotation would actually be ACE Mike Clevinger, Touki Toussant, and 3 bullpen games per week. And Clevinger is gone anyway because he has a mutual option.1 point

Some notes: I don't hate the hype, but maybe let him breathe a little... ? Could be why he's been pressing at the plate. Secondly, Baseball isn't Boring had Red Sox prospect Christopher Troye on to talk AFL, and when asked to name 3 players who had impressed him, they were all White Sox: Leasure, Burke, and Montgomery. Compliments their play and personalities. And finally, some winter ball tidbits: Deivi Garcia is getting some extra work in with Licey Veras is still playing (and hitting!) and I think that's our Luis Reyes too1 point

I think in this analogy, Chicago might be closer to Beijing than it is to Rio. Chances are it would’ve been a spectacular failure but look what they’re doing with the Olympic village site now (Michael Reese hospital site). The cost is five times higher and for something arguably much dumber and unnecessary. At least I like sports and it could’ve easily been converted into something useful.1 point

There is a way to honor pride night like the White Sox and I believe all other clubs except Texas did, without honoring people who mock important religious symbols and tenets of 4 million Los Angeles area current and potential customers. As bad as Jerry can be, I’m glad Jerry doesn’t support this, just as I know he wouldn’t honor a group denigrating the faith of Muslims, Jews or any other faith or religious groups as part of a White Sox promotion of “Pride”. I’ve done too much of this thinking. We’ll see. Again, I would still come out net positive for Getz if the cost of getting a real operation in the minors/intl is getting a bunch of old players Pedro and Jerry can be friends with. But not positive enough to succeed. Can’t think of too many playoff teams right now that weren’t trying to be good at all facets of team building,1 point

This is probably the best feeling you can achieve as a hitter. I know cause it happened to me in middle school gym class during indoor whiffle ball. ?1 point

I don’t believe this rumor. Maybe Bruce is reporting on old news from the deadline, but Getz seems like he actually hired a few people that are kind of smart — and while I don’t think that will make any difference in fixing the twins dysfunctions of completely useless player development and an impossible set of constraints in free agency, I refuse to believe they all got in a room and decided they should target Salvador fucking Perez in 2023.1 point

The White Sox have multiple provisions in their lease which impact city, county and state tax revenue. https://www.isfauthority.com/assets/management-agreement-with-all-amendments2.pdf https://www.fitchratings.com/research/us-public-finance/fitch-affirms-illinois-sports-facilities-auth-bonds-at-bb-outlook-stable-30-06-2022 The Sox and their landlord does not pay real estate tax to Cook County or the City of Chicago. The Sox are credited back up to 50% of all current and future City and County sales and entertainment taxes levied on tickets and other stadium revenues based on attendance. The 2% IHSA hotel tax levied across all of Illinois is remitted back to the IHSA, is split 50% State / 50% City of the $10M annual subsidies. This doesn't include the $15M and growing annually the ISFA must pay Jerry for stadium maintenance and capital improvements. https://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/taxpayers-still-owe-640m-on-2002-soldier-field-renovation/2981068/ Even more egregious than the Sox deal is the fact the ISFA borrowed $398M to renovate Soldier Field, have made 20 years of bond payments and now owes $640M, paying down $15M in debt but accruing over $256M in interest over this period. And now these assholes want to move to AH. https://www.isfauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/2022-ISFA-Audit-ANNUAL-REPORT-FORMAT.pdf In addition, the state transferred $20M in additional funds from the General Fund to cover the shortfall after the Governor and Mayor lock downed businesses including hotels over the past few years.1 point

Does the City get more or less the approximate $6 spent for $1 in return on the White Sox that it reportedly received from the NASCAR Debacle? NASCAR = At least $3.5M spent for $620K in return. 2024 was extended in secret with no Aldermanic input per the article below. https://www.chicagotribune.com/politics/ct-cost-of-2023-nascar-chicago-street-race-20231009-fzjifp3hlfdx7h3ldate2pe6f4-story.html1 point

In the rare times that JR has spoken publicly about this he has been consistent. He has told his family that when he passes they should keep the Bulls and sell the White Sox. He has said the Bulls make Michael (Reinsdorf) money because of the salary cap/structure in the NBA, the Sox do not because there is no salary cap. (Most business sites feel the notion that he hasn't made money with the Sox even without a salary cap is posturing.) I've been told by some who have knowledge of the situation that most likely when JR leaves his estate will put the team up for sale and more than likely be bought by a corporation. Those folks have told me they have a hard time thinking a single individual will buy the club because of the price tag. The latest Forbes estimate had the Sox valued at 1.75 billion dollars.1 point
