  1. They’re so far away from contending, I’d rather they just get good players and worry about lineup balance down the road.

  5. It's Norby's make up that stands out. That's a crucial part of evals with Getz. It's not just the projections.

  7. When healthy I like our chances with a core of Moncada, Benintendi, Robert, Eloy, Vaughn. IMO DeJong is a fine bridge to Montgomery, and I think Lopez will get lots of playing time as super-sub. Cease should / will be traded to whichever team fills two of the three remaining RF, 2nd base, and catcher positions with good but perhaps blocked players. They should be ML ready not future hope and dream type players. This assumes of course that JR was serious about competing this year. Finish the Cease trade with however many serviceable arms make the deal work. Use free agency for that position still needing improvement and a couple of arms. Personally, I feel we improved by the subtraction of Grandal, Anderson, and Bummer. The pitchers we lost were nothing to write home about either. It's not the 27' Yanks but this squad would compete for a playoff spot IMO.

  8. They don’t have anywhere near enough of any position, fielding or pitching.

  9. Moncada is dead weight. He’ll be gone after 2024 regardless. Attaching him in a trade with any player of value would be malfeasance. Just let Yoan try to earn his next contract while playing good defense at 3B next season.

  10. Well they can. The owner just doesn’t want to.

  11. RH is Rick Hahn, or Right-Handed, or both? Unfortunately, they lost mediocre as the standard this past April.

  12. Hard no on Busch. Dude is already 26 years old with barely any MLB experience. Give me Rushing, Pages, De Paula and Stone

  13. Those teams from 2000 - 2005 were loaded with talent, and they still needed some "blindly falling" to win it. This team will need a miracle...or Getz to be a great GM, which I suppose would be a miracle.

  14. If it's really robust, there is NO EXCUSE to accept 2 pitchers and another RH loser in Grissom. None. Baltimore all the way.

  15. why do we assume Colas won't play next season? it reflects more so on Grifol and Getz to give up on him. if he's "undisciplined" and "lacks fundamentals" maybe they should instill those things in him. Colas needs to start unless somehow Lee Jung-Hoo plays right field for the team next year, at which point ship him and the farm boy out for a bag of chips

  16. Just look at what is on the table and what’s possible when you cut out Cease with a lowered payroll. This team will be losing ugly.

  17. Grissom is truly horrible defensively in the infield, and he doesn’t hit for enough power to be a corner outfielder. He’d be a disappointing headliner.
    2 points
  18. Yes. I don’t get why everyone is in such a hurry to ship Colas out. Guy is a year removed from being the exact type Is prospect we need for RF. 2023 was an unmitigated disaster for him and he’s no longer plan A, but he has 2 options and is a gifted player. I see no reason to sell low on him.

  19. If AA is being aggressive, I’d have to believe the package would include Smith-Schawver , Vaughn Grissom as headliners. That would be interesting just because it is subtracting from their ML Roster depth, but they clearly want to spend on veterans and may be out on bringing along younger pieces at the moment - especially without Wash. I think this is probably underrated by the board due to Grissom’s down year in his 75 mlb games, but he is only 22 and torched AAA this year. He should get a shot to improve in the infield on the Sox, unfortunately the worst team in history at helping that along. Add to that package Didier Fuentes, who pitched in low A as a 17 year old, and Owen Murphy - because we love our local boys now- and I think that is likely to be a strong offer. Honestly reminds of the pirates-astros Cole deal.

  21. Clearly the Braves are pulling a 200 IQ play and will now put Kelenic in the deal for the Cease trade.
    1 point
  22. Well the owner left him employed for a really long time. Starts at the top. I don’t know anything. They’ll move Cease and Eloy eventually. Make a rule 5 pick and sign some cheap free agents. Gonna be a rough year

  23. Man the Braves lineup is going to be unbelieveable. If they do get Cease they may win 120.

  24. The White Sox need an entire team other than Robert...assuming Cease is gone at some point this year and/or not extended.

  25. The most pathetic part of this offseason is how Benintendi/Moncada are blocking any big FA moves by the Sox....and Eloy to a lesser extent. Financial flexibility dissipated into thin air when they drove the franchise into the ground. Even those mid to late 80's White Sox teams had hope in the way of draft picks and a new stadium coming...at least there was SOMETHING to be excited about.

  26. Surely it's your Cubs...if they want to take over Chicago for good, as if there was any doubt about that at this point (barring completely new ownership).

  27. I don’t think BAL is getting involved in a Cease deal that doesn’t result in Cease being traded to BAL. This isn’t the show.

  29. Not to hijack the thread, but it just seems like we’re in hell right now. Attendance will be so bad next few years, no way will Jerry spend to get quality players on this roster. There just aren’t enough quality pieces in this organization.

  30. Not a bad idea, only thing is they have an opening in LF so he might just fit there.

  31. Their offense sucks so they trade one of their few good offensive players to dump salary. They better be up to something.

  32. The Braves are taking on about $30M in salary. What are the Mariners doing.

  33. Does not seem like Seattle optimized the value of those three.

  34. If the Sox are so impatient to get a deal done quickly, expect a disappointing outcome. They gotta be willing to pull Cease off the trading block, and trade him at the deadline. The sharks probably smell weakness and inexperience. Maybe they even smell a Cease decline. In which case, yeah, the Sox have to rush the deal. But that's an easy read for the league then. Do you expect to see top offers? I don't. Not until Cease is back on the bump, shutting teams down.

  35. I can see preferring Norby to Ortiz. Ortiz is aging out of true prospect status. He’s a plus glove at short, but I would not bet the bat plays anywhere else. If you’re committed to Montgomery at ss, Norby might make more sense. I bet Baltimore doesn’t pull the trigger on any of it, though. The cheapskates may be a landing spot for Gio.

  36. 100 percent wrong choice. I get it - FSU would lose but they played the season that got them there. Can’t punish them because their qb got hurt. The resume is the resume and they should get in over a one loss Bama or Georgia. Otherwise what is the point.

  37. According to the report we received the issue was Cowser. Most people here would prefer Kjerstad anyway. I realize Getz likes well rounded players but Kjerstad has the arm for RF and someone in the lineup has to provide legit LHS at cleanup and also to protect Robert, as opposed to limp dick players masquerading as a LHS (*cough..Beni, yoyo..cough*). IMO, if it came down to Kjerstad and Norby and an semi ok third piece most people here would probably take that than ATLs 2 SPs and Grissom and most would prolly prefer that to Busch and Stone too.

  38. If they strip away Benintendi and Moncada, they're getting closer and closer....that won't happen until at least the trade deadline. Of they simply get stuck with AB until he retires, ala the Royals with Alex Gordon. Hopefully he starts out well enough to garner some interest and they can dump him at 50 cents on the dollar at some point. Although they might not be able to afford to cut a $30 million check in 2024. JR has a thing about extricating every possible ounce of value out of players and coaches/managers, with very very FEW exceptions.

  39. Let's just say I am willing to give Getz a chance before I slit my throat like most here. As a fan since 1955 I have seen good teams and horrible teams. Teams that are surprisingly good and those that disappoint mightily. The WS are my team and that won't be changing anytime soon.

  40. Sox don't have enough pitching IMO. They need everything. Eder and Nastrini aren't as good as Smith-Shawver and Waldrep. Schultz is still 2+ years away.
    1 point
  41. Yep. Really sucks for FSU but they are basically Iowa without their QB. Hopefully the committee doesn’t repeat its mistake from last year of leaving Bama out (im assuming Michigan, Texas and Washington are all in) for a clearly inferior team.

  42. I actually just think Grissom is underrated here because he’s off prospect lists.

  46. A Braves trade would be very unexciting and I’d question the logic of acquiring 8 or 9 players from one org in a single off-season. Are you hearing anything about what we may be planning to do? Seems like Eloy is as a good as gone. Could that happen this week in Nashville?

  47. It's a good thing Jim Bowden isn't the GM of the White Sox because his last two Cease trade proposals absolutely sucked s%*#.
