As the 2023 season ended with 101 losses, JR didn't talk about improving the team. Instead, he went to Springfield to lobby for a new stadium. The result? A record setting 121-loss season in 2024 with another 100-loss season in the 20th anniversary of the only World Series championship in 108 years. Conservatives like JR preach about people "pulling themselves by their bootstraps." No government handouts. But there is JR with a handout for an obscene amount of money. Instead of the team improving, it worsens. Getz supporters say he will eventually turn the team into a winner. But until that happens, Getz and the White Sox will have no credibility. I've been a Sox fan for a long time. I don't listen to promises anymore, and JR can build his own stadium.5 points

Caulfield why did you have to bring up Bob Uecker's age. This was an all-time jinx.3 points

I’ll have an international article out in the morning that offers plenty of context with Keller quotes etc.2 points

Of all of the things Getz has done so far, I did not expect the Martin Maldonado signing to be one that generated disagreement, like at all, ever.2 points
-
Literally you are defending the Maldonado signing. Isn't it equally safe to say you defend every move as smart regardless of how dumb it was at the time?2 points

It's always wild to me when the clip they choose is the one the catcher couldn't get to the ball in.2 points

Unfortunately, a big reason the Sox can’t sign anyone good is because they don’t even have the equivalent of a drug store cash register. They have that crappy change tray that we all have in our cars, and the highest denomination of currency in it is quarters. I keep mine in a red Solo cup in one of my cup holders.1 point

But, but, but, it was a good move since Getz was looking for leadership and he only cost $4.25 million. It just didn’t work out! Maldonado hadn’t had a good season since 3 years earlier. But it still isn’t Getz’s fault that Maldonado played like a 37 year old who should have retired.1 point

It's telling when the Tanner Banks move is one of the three crown jewels of the entire Getz Resume so far. Getting Patino this week might be another, unless all the credit goes to Keller instead in the international dept.1 point

The Sox ended up signing him. I never said he was a savior. I’m not sure what your point is or what that Sox acquisition from last year has anything to do with Sasaki. Or are you just trolling?1 point

No, actually, it's the pickup of Canaan Smith-Njigba.1 point

First appearance of Babe Ruth in ANY connection with Martin Maldonado in baseball "statniks" history, lol...1 point

Idk if it was really hindsight. I don’t think anyone was banging on the door to sign him.1 point

Will Southpaw do 21 shots on his 21st birthday? Right before first pitch, preferably.1 point

And of course, San Diego making the move that is going to bring Sasaki home:1 point

Am I also responsible for Naomi Watts and anyone connected to Mulholland Drive...? That was quite the movie. If I'm so powerful, I can send Sasaki to SD to keep the proper balance in baseball intact and Notre Dame over OSU too, lol. All promised to occur next Monday.1 point

Less politically untenable now than a Cuban academy at least...Venezuela equally dicey despite all the signings in recent years.1 point

In a way that has actually happened: August 2, 1968 - The Sox and Senators completed a trade as infielders Tim Cullen and Ron Hansen were exchanged for each other. Why the notoriety? Because the same two players were traded for each other by the same two clubs on February 13th! The players even wore the same uniform number with the White Sox and had the same identical locker location! Hansen had been with the club since 1963 and played a solid shortstop. And you have this oddity: October 16, 1952 - The Sox sent infielder Willie Miranda to the St. Louis Browns in a trade. So what? Well, consider this; it marked the third time in four months that he was dealt between the two clubs! Miranda was traded to the Browns on June 15… 13 days later the Sox re-acquired him and finally on this date they sent him back. The entire situation developed like this. He was traded along with Al Zarilla to the Browns for Tom Wright and Leo Thomas on June 15. The Browns then waived him on June 28, the Sox claimed him and he returned. Then on October 16 he was sent back to St. Louis along with Hank Edwards for Joe DeMaestri and Tommy Byrne.1 point

Thank you Mr. Uecker for helping me to gain my love for baseball through your commercials, play by play, and comedy through movies. You will be missed but never forgotten. RIP 🙏1 point

I get that. There are definitely some things that, in theory, should make the season interesting, but I just can't get myself to care all that much. Maybe that changes a month or two into the season if some dudes start to stand out a little more.1 point

Once you make it to 90, every day is a bonus. Honestly, lots of people lose the will to live at that point unless they're fortunate enough to have a higher quality of life than being confined to a nursing home/assisted living center.1 point

Dude, we ask this like a million times, but can you only post previews of articles? Not full articles, plus pictures, ads and hot links? If you can't, just post the link and summarize the story yourself.1 point

I don’t get where this 28/29/30 talk is coming from. Regardless, they should take the best asset available, with the highest ceiling when it’s their turn to pick. The rest will figure itself out.1 point

If the Sox were for sale tomorrow, they'd go for $2 billion easy. Chicago area, marketable brand. The Clippers had nothing and were the second team in their own arena and sold for 2 billion 10 years ago. It's New York, but the Mets sold for $2.4 billion and they share the city with the Yankees. Nets, again, a second team in their city, sold for $2.35 billion — to a person who already owned 49% of the team. A successful White Sox team prints money. JR just doesn't like ~risk~1 point

This is a weirdly interesting concept for once. I actually had to think about it. The answer is no because even on July 31 if a guy could help the White Sox with a win or two down the stretch he could help your team with a win or two down the stretch as well, but getting to that actually wasn’t simple.1 point

Orlando needs to step up his game. He’s had some really bad fake rumors this offseason.1 point

I know the report is garbage, but boy how bad would that Rojas signing look if they went out and signed another SS? Literally blocking the entire infield with vets.1 point

lol Kyle Tucker is 100% going to be a free agent. The Cubs knew that before the trade. If he’s the player next year he was before a freak foul ball injury last year, that’s a massive boost to his value. No one knows if he can be that player again, so there’s a big issue with valuing him. If he drops an 8 War MVP caliber season next year we might look at him as a $500 million player.1 point

...And the Red Sox shouldn't have sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees. I'm a 20/20 hindsight genius, too.0 points
