Chris Getz decided to sign a bunch of vets that didn't raise the bar and got injured and to remedy the latter issue he signed more bad vets. Absolutely genius at work. Truly, its like watching Michaelangelo on speed.4 points

Can we PLEASE have some fucking offense? I heard over and over again how great Eder was going to be…but Burger was the only player two years ago who was actually fun to watch hit, along with Robert. I thought baseball was supposed to be about entertaining the fans? Well, I guess Vargas (and AAA Meidroth) walks are…fun? No, not really. Not when nobody can actually drive them in.4 points

62 days of service time and 24 years old catches my attention. On a team full of flawed players, might as well get someone with any upside.4 points

I'd be more interested in watching Canario at 24, than the veteran stiffs currently on the roster. We ain't winning anything this year, the marginal vets, one of them, can go elsewhere.4 points

A sincere wish that all Sox fans have a good season, something to be proud of again instead of constant embarrassment. Miracles sometimes happen, the 1977 "South Side Hit Men" and the 1990 "Doin' The Little Things" White Sox come to mind. I'd absolutely settle for a season like those two. As far as the organization/franchise/front office/players? I hope they are still playing meaningful games after Memorial Day. Play Ball! ⚾3 points

We have some very smart Sox experts and baseball minds on this site. When the roster comes out, please start a thread and go through each player and tell us normal fans if that player could make the roster of any other team and rate them on a scale of one thru ten. thank u3 points
-
Easy answer. Because they filled the roster with a bunch of worthless veterans with no value. The strategy is and has been fucking terrible.3 points

How the f*** does the worst team in MLB have a roster crunch? This is absurd.3 points

But we have to hold on to all of the crappy over the hill guys we promised money to!3 points

Colas had an uphill battle when he compared himself to a slave, and then continued to suck really bad.3 points

In Dec. 1900, Christy Mathewson was taken in rule 5 draft by the Reds, but subsequently traded back to Giants, then pitched 336 innings in 19013 points

They aren't the paragons of character and passion the Sox look for, like Mike Clevinger3 points

Not absolutely everything needs an opinion like this. It’s two bad players.3 points

Why the f*** would this not be the game thread? If you're gonna just splurt all over the forum with non sense please stop making threads. I am begging you. Or just act normal for once in your life. It's seriously impacting my ability to the use the forum and I'm sure I'm not alone.3 points

First guy rumored to be on the cut list we could bring in that would be legit exciting imo. He has had mixed success as a minor league player but his tools and upside are undeniable. Why the heck did the cubs just give him away for JRs favorite return! Oh well could be our gain.3 points

It’s horrible. An expansion team would have started the season with a better roster. Count how many players on the Sox roster could be considered 26th men, hell, more like 27th men for doubleheaders.2 points

I think Brooks Baldwin is gonna have a big year. I feel it deep in my soul.2 points

I don’t think it’s going to be White. He’s in Charlotte rotation. I’m curious to see what they do. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them DFA or release Carela at this point. They can’t put him on 60-day since they sent him down. They can’t carry him all season. He’s on the IL.2 points

We clearly have issues with latin prospects. Luis admitting (or however it went down) that he didn't even talk to the coaches might just be a Luis thing, but when we seem to fail to develop them time and time again it speaks to an org wide failure and not individual imo. Ironically we were once at the vanguard of international signings and development with Mags, Tad, Uribe, Alexei, Shingo, El Caballo and others I'm surely missing.2 points

This has been obvious for a long time now. I am glad they finally quit holding his spot if they were never going to play him anyway.2 points

Just not at all a fan of not giving Colas a chance this season. Writing has been on the wall, but I just don't like it. He must be a very real clubhouse issue.2 points

That's about 22 guys on the current roster, but this guy at least plays defense.2 points
-
He’s 27 years old with a 20 grade hit tool. I get he’s a plus athlete, but his bat won’t play in the big leagues.2 points

OK, interesting. Love the plus tools. Would be nice to have a real defender or two out there.2 points

FanGraphs just wrote up the Rockies' system: Colorado Rockies Top 43 Prospects | FanGraphs Baseball 32. Greg Jones, CF Video Drafted: 1st Round, 2019 from UNC Wilmington (TBR) Age 26.9 Height 6′ 2″ Weight 175 Bat / Thr S / R FV 35+ Tool Grades (Present/Future) Hit Raw Power Game Power Run Fielding Throw 20/20 55/55 30/30 80/80 55/70 50 Jones is among the most fun to watch players in the minors. He’s a top-of-the-scale athlete who plays spectacular (albeit inconsistent) defense at several positions, and he has incredible speed and above-average raw power. Now 26, Jones still hasn’t made progress in a few key areas, namely his infield hands and arm accuracy, and his contact hitting. He hit .267/.344/.453 in his first season in the Rockies system, but K’d at a 35.5% clip, which is actually a good bit better than his 2023 rate (38.8%). Jones swings pretty hard and can tag a fastball, but he’s hapless against secondary stuff; this is the kind of guy who’d hit .180 or so with regular reps. At a certain point it was feasible that a young, switch-hitting Jones would make meaningful progress in this area, but that hasn’t happened. Instead, it’s via his speed and defense that Jones remains relevant. Though he struggled with flubs and underthrows, Jones was developed solely at shortstop for his first four years in the Rays system and wasn’t given run in center field until 2023. Traded to Colorado for Joe Rock that offseason, he’s now been exposed to a mix of CF/SS/2B and sometimes plays all three like your friendly neighborhood Spiderman, with highlight-reel acrobatics. Too often, though, Jones is flub-prone on the infield, and his throwing is much, much better from the outfield, where his relative inexperience still sometimes shows. He’s below average at short and has played just eight games at second, but Jones is such an unbelievable athlete that I’m still betting he becomes a very special defensive center fielder in his late 20s. He still has value as a late-game runner and defender.2 points

I'll be there. Bought the $125 pass, and I'll already be at my office downtown in the am. Pretty easy to sneak out and head down to 35th and shields for a couple hours.2 points

I'm going. I wouldn't miss it for the world. Hopefully this will be a great season!!!!2 points

And for as much as we keep getting told how great this new development staff is, maybe we should actually put them to work on someone who isn't a soon to be 16 inch softball player.2 points

Apparently, the guy who got into it with Bernstein just donated $10,000 to Camp One Step, for which Bernstein served on the board of directors and was removed last week for his tweet about going after this guy’s children.1 point

D-. Not clear how he's any better than Hahns last two years. The scouting feels the same to me. The results are even worse.1 point
