It's a little worse when your GM is the worst talent evaluator in the game.4 points

Maybe but they’ve also been prioritizing these types of players in trades and in the draft. McLain, Saucke, Antonacci, Vargas, Perez, Albertus and Zavala were all guys who control the zone and take walks.3 points

I considered placing the $5 bet due to the insane payout, then realized I could get a sandwich instead.3 points

I liked yesterday when shiff was puzzled how the Sox could be 2500-1 to win the division when they were "tied for first place."3 points

Sox trade one of the five best pitchers in baseball and a reliable #3/4 and replace them with nobody... "I think our rotation will be better." It wouldn't shock me if crochet out values the entire pitching staff.3 points
-
Was hilarious. I think the Sox will find at least 2 real starters out of this group, but those who thought the unit were solid had lost their mind and just ignored all the data available to them. Bullpen is horrible, which is the true reflection of Getz.3 points

100% agreed. He got the GM job too early. Maybe he will be good eventually, but it’s obvious that he is in over his head right now. These guys all have their faults. Hahn’s top skill was negotiating player contracts, even though they all ended up poorly. He wasn’t very good at much else. Jerry is old and comfortable. He got his WS in 2005. I know you are not a fan of Ishbia but just imagine if the guy actually wants to win and throws money at this team? I’m excited for a new owner and a TRUE house cleaning of the organization.2 points

To me Getz embodies the Peter principle. He is well-intended but in over his head. Maybe demote him to assistant and get someone else to run the team.2 points

Wouldn't you like to see JR hold a press conference today where he takes questions from the media? He won't do it because it would be a PR disaster on his part.2 points
-
If JR were a player he would be dfa. Eventually you get over your childhood attachment to your team and just pity the ineptness. Only on the Sox does Luis Robert Jr. turn into Michael Taylor Jr. They bring out the worst in every one.2 points

We got N64 on Christmas when I was 6, but I have two siblings a lot older so went from games like Mario to Goldeneye real quick. And yes - it is the best game of all time1 point

6K in a row to finish for Smith, 10K/0H total through 4IP (73 pitches). 4BB, 2 each in the first two innings and then he settled in.1 point

I honestly don’t know what Getz is good at but maybe his willingness to upgrade the org to the latest and greatest technology and data analytics is his thing. I don’t think he’s a good GM overall because he continues to waste money on bad vets and chooses the wrong prospects in trades. And for as much as the team should be using DA and stats, Getz hired a manager that continues to play his buddy in Jankowski that wouldn’t be on any other MLB team’s active roster. The fact that Getz added Jankowski and Venable keeps starting him tells me they are on the same page with an awful player starting for their team. In any case, Getz is most definitely gone the second Ishbia officially owns the team.1 point

Why would you want someone who has failed twice still around the organization? Just no way Ishbia keeps him around.1 point

Braden hits his first, also scoring Bonemer (IF single) for an early 2-0 lead in Kanny. Reyes looked good in a 2K first.1 point

I would like to see JR and the Sox brass direct Getz to acquire decent players at almost any cost to get this team out of the hole they are in. Realistically, Rick and Kenny left a mess that will take years to clean up, and they wasted and made millions for themselves doing it. Baldwin reminds of Colson Montgomery in several ways - too tall and slinky to play infield, low baseball IQ, and plenty of swings and misses. On another point, it will not be soon enough when they bring up Chase Meidroth and Kyle Teel.1 point

Reality has to be hitting others who were gushing over a 2-2 start. And it is a harsh reality.1 point

Of course, no one would want an owner in the same situation as Veeck. My point was that Veeck was well-liked even though many were happy when he sold the team. JR has never established a good relationship with the fan base. You're right. JR has been a PR disaster. My other point is that when people accumulate this much money and this much power, they become even more detached from people who don't have that kind of wealth. I wonder how he can watch this team lose over 100 games a year and not seem to care. But it doesn't seem to bother him. His objectives are a lot different than ours.1 point

Ryan Galanie hit a grand slam and an inside-the-park home run. Wait…they’re calling it a triple and he scored on a throwing error. That’s rough. He had promised a sick kid prior to the game he’d hit 2 home runs.1 point

He is only doing what JR the billionaire wants him to do. It is amazing that so little has been done to improve this team since the 101-loss season. Apparently Reinsdorf doesn't mind seeing an empty stadium.1 point

Yup. Grifol sucks, but this squad is once again historically awful. I'm shocked that ZIPS had them at 60 wins. Vegas was more realistic.1 point

i feel like some folks thought maybe the coach was a big part of the problem last year no, the roster is all-time horrible and is the main reason why they wont win 50 games this year1 point

They're just buying time until the CBA expires. Don't expect any big investment in the roster next offseason, either.1 point

The White Sox franchise is valued at around $1.9 billion. How could a MLB team not be purchased by a billionaire these days? And while Veeck was very fan-friendly, do fans really want the next Sox owner to be short on cash and run the team on a shoe-string budget again? If so, this fan base must really be a glutton for punishment. Trading away Goose Gossage and Bucky Dent in rent-a-player moves worked out great for that magical 1977 season (though they did finish 3rd in the end), but then what? After that, the team was a laughingstock for the rest of his ownership. And, while before my time, in his first go-around as Sox owner he traded away a lot of talent after the '59 pennant win and that cost the Sox dearly during their competitive years in the 1960s. The problem with Reinsdorf isn't that he's a billionaire. The problem is that he's been a PR disaster pretty much from the get-go and over the last 20 years: has run this team like we're the Pittsburgh Pirates, has simply refused to invest properly in this team, and has filled the organization with incompetent sycophants.1 point

I am very convinced he would have been hated today because he would never spend to win. Fans would have quickly soured on glitz over substance1 point

The fact that the new owner has to be a billionaire because of baseball economics makes the fan even more powerless. MLB will do what it wants, and the fan has no say-so or ability to influence decisions. My beef? RIght now, as an organization, the White Sox have no credibility. A new owner does not mean credibility will be restored no matter how much money he has. I have been a fan for a hell of a long time, going to both parks during winning and losing seasons. I have never been this discouraged about the state of the franchise. Bill Veeck was not perfect by any means, but he understood what fans wanted when they came to the ballpark. What does a billionaire know about the average working-class fan? Nothing. He knows about his ego and non-ending greed. We don't need another out-of-touch owner. I don't understand the hostility. I am a writer who has written five books about the White Sox and soon will be publishing my sixth. Don't be angry at me. Be angry at the people who has run this organization to the ground.1 point
-
While I would welcome JR no longer running the White Sox, I am not looking forward to another billionaire taking the team over. I know MLB is a money-making business, I am not interested in an owner, who despite having billions, doesn't think that will be enough. RIght now, the White Sox have one ongoing tradition: that is losing 100 games. A new owner may not change that. MLB used to be for the working class. No more. They can keep their $1.7 billion stadium.1 point

At 2-5 the new manager has to be concerned. Got to win next game vs detroit and show we can win four of every nine. 4-5 of every nine would mean a decent season. Crucial stretch here to determine whether we just stink or royally stink.1 point
